    The folding electric bike looks good, but I wish it had a better locking system. A small impact could break it, and you would likely need to replace the whole thing, I think. But it does look like a good option otherwise.

    Scotty, The super capacitors in jump packs are the future of batteries. Batteries are good at watt hours, Capacitors are good at Watt-Seconds. Most batteries output 200-300% of what they hold. Super Capacitor banks that only hold 50 Watt-Hours can put out 2000 watts for 4-5 seconds. Works in reverse for charging. If you build a 2 kilowatt-hour battery out of capacitors. You can charge it with 10 kilowatts doing 0 damage charging it in 1/5th of an hour or 12 minutes. However at the scale needed it needs more time.
    9:27This is how. The 6 cells inside that cost 1.50-4$ each on ebay. I built a 350 farad super capacitor bank that replaces my battery as long as I start it every day. Added x3 5v 2 watt solar panels in series to keep the capacitors from killing themselves with draw from their balance boards. They drain like 0.5 watts over time. I built it for 12$. Made a few 700 farads and some jump packs.

    A little of your information is incorrect on the Tripod Light. While it does charge from the Micro USB (you called it older Samsung, which isn't wrong), the other USB port (Type A) is not to charge the light battery, but to charge another device such as your phone. That USB type receptacle is not ever supposed to have power going into it.

    I have one of those Audew lithium ion jump packs and it works great. It will roll over my Chevrolet Silverado Duramax with 6.6L diesel motor with dual batteries. I ran my last batteries until they were too weak to start the truck. I started it three times in a row and it still had 75% charge. It comes with a nice carry case about the size of football. You can get them online at various locations.

    Nice to hear that Scotty likes his pedelec bike. Mine was, at the time, the cheapest one I could get on eBay from the Shenzhen market (yes, it was literally made in and marketed for Shenzhen, and is somewhat similar to, but more shaffordable than, Scotty's and Naomi Wu's bikes), but it gets me to work and back, and it got me off the municipal bus, which was important during this pandemic. Best of all, there's one part of my homebound commute where I can kick it into a higher speed and I actually say "wahoo!" When was the last time you said "wahoo"?

    Merry Christmas Scotty, Note, there are 2 classifications for e-bikes that are regulated by state law. Class 1 e-bikes are allowed to go up to 20mph, class 3 are allowed to go 28mph. Check your local laws if deciding on one. Also note that there are so many Chinese e-bikes that don't have service or parts support so don't expect your local bike shop to fix it other then maybe fixing a flat. Happy New Year!

  • @Dansk55
    @Dansk55 2 роки тому

    Very true. Never quick charge a lithium battery if you want it to last. The slower the better. Also, never charge to 100%, best to stay between 20-80%. Lots of data to support this. I never have understood why anyone would want to charge an electric car quickly. The cells won't last long and buying used will be a nightmare.

    • @motov8-garage832
      @motov8-garage832 2 роки тому

      There is nothing wrong with charging a lithium ion battery to 100%. The 20 to 80% is what you should leave your li ion batteries at for storage, especially for long term storage(weeks to months). Nothing wrong with charging them to 100% if you are going to use it right away(atleast within a few days). You are absolutely correct about everything else thou. I'm not trying to argue, I've just done alot of reading about battery storage. I'm just saying this is what there saying now based on many different battery companies instructions and forums on battery research over the last many years. I have some li ion batteries that I do leave at 20 to 80% (most of them) and a couple others that I just use however and leave at 100% most of the time. I'm curious myself to see if what they say is actually true and if it matters..guess I'll see in time.

      Did it fully charge your batteries? I have a fancy Schamacher charger that wouldn't fully charge my batteries, while watching it go up in % charged it would reach 75-80% and go into trickle mode, a couple of hours later batteries (I have 6 cars) would only be at 12.2 or 12.3 volts or around or a little over 50% charged. In desparation I just bought a NOCO Genius 10 and it seems to be doing the same thing. Am I missing something? My little 1.25 amp Battery Tender was put on one of the cars that was only at 50% last night and brought it up to full charge after several hours, something the Schumacher has never been able to do on any of my 6 vehicles. The batteries are different chemistries and brands but ALL fail to reach a full charge when measured by the voltmeter even though the chargers think they are fully charged. One of the batteries is a Optima red top that's only a few weeks old, same issue with that one as all the others. Is it me or are some chargers crummy?

    • @dgdiyer1191
      @dgdiyer1191 Рік тому

      @@johnmishjr599 The TowerTop battery charger I bought fully charges my car batteries. The only time it didn't was when it could only get to 10 volts after 24 hours. It then automatically turned off. I took the battery back to the store (it was a lemon) and sure enough they admitted it was bad and it was replaced under a full warranty with a new one.

    • @johnmishjr599
      @johnmishjr599 Рік тому

      @@dgdiyer1191 Thanks for the reply, I spoke to Schumacher today and they told me that if you put a charger on a long extension cord it may prevent the charger from accurately measuring the state of charge of the battery and prematurely going into maintenance mode. I am currently experimenting with charging from a wall socket in the garage, results are inconclusive so far but it's beginning to look like at least some of my batteries may be having an issue holding a charge even though the battery tester seems to indicate that they are good.

    Your Garage looks much tidier now ,unless it's a different garage! :) Iwas wondering how you work in that garage? I usually watch most of your your videos and love em l had learned a great deal on which cars or SUV's to purchase when I actually do.

    The charger works great unless your battery is dead dead dead then it doesn’t sense that you hooked up the cables I had to give my battery a jump first and the charger picked up some voltage

    The bigger USB port is for output charging.... basically the flashlight can be used to charge your phone like an external battery.

    Most Li-Ion batteries will hold their charge over the course of a year with minimal use. Plus that flashlight is probably LED so it uses perhaps very little power (you can get some very bright LEDs that don't use more than maybe 3 watts of power at most). Of course the number of LEDs probably matters too. The issue with some of the cheaper ones is they use multiple LEDs versus one bright one, which think does impact the battery life overall.
    The jump starter is something I would recommend especially for those who live in cold climates. The risk of destroying your car from jump starting it (with a quality jump starter). AFter a friend accidentally fried his engine computer trying to jumpstart another vehicle, I simply refuse to use normal jumper cables (I keep them around just in case, but don't use them on my own vehicles -- only for other people to use). A jump starter is one thing that you may not use much,. but when you do need it, it's a life safer especially if you're traveling in areas that are remote. Added to that, and not specifically car related, I would recommend one of those partable batteries too (like a 200 watt battery from Jackery) for emergencies too so you can charge things if you do get stranded. They won't necessarily start a car but can allow you to charge a light for example.

    I live in Europe but still enjoy these videos. I can partly understand the difference betwixt European & US vehicles. Europe still had to import most of its oil based fuel for years after World War Two. This made fuel expensive leading to small vehicles that used less fuel than US vehicles. The fact that until lately most of our cities still had largely medieval street patterns. Meant that large cars & SUVs were not & in many places still aren’t practical.

      More reasons for small cars in Europe:
      1. High fuel tax keeps it expensive, so small cars continue to dominate.
      2. Population density means parking spaces need to be small. No room for a Cadillac. The garage I had in Germany in 1999-2000 was only big enough to park an Opel Corsa. I could have driven an Astra in, but couldn't open the door to get myself out.
