This song still gives me chills every time I hear it. I was in front of the TV the day it aired on MTV and have seen it performed by Metallica in concert. Nothing like seeing it live.
Apparently, I was 13 years old when it came out but in my mind I was much younger. I think maybe because it scared me so much in my mind I think I had to have been at least 8 or 9. Pretty wild to think about. I think this video is pretty much unrivaled in terms of creating an atmosphere of fear and sadness while at the same time making me want to fight someone, lol. Just an incredible video.

As long as it's not this new "banjo rock" ie Fun, Mumford and Sons, Imagine Dragons (however their first album was pretty decent)

Those bands are more Indie Rock/Electric Rock. Metallica being one of the Big 4 of Thrash Metal. I recommend looking up Tool (Progressive Metal), Chevelle (Alternative Metal/Rock), Periphery (Progressive Metal), Rammstein (Industrial Metal/Alternative Metal) (I recommend looking up the english translation to their lyrics as the stories they tell from their 3rd album, called "Mutter", and onward are great ones.), Senses Fail (Was Post-Hardcore, now pure Hardcore Punk) (Renacer is a great album of theirs), Slaves (UK) (Punk, maybe Hardcore Punk).
Just limiting to one genre, I can tell you that Music is still very much real. Tool, Rammstein, and Chevelle are favorites of mine.
