  • Kiiking is a modified version of the playground activity of swinging - and is now considered an extreme sport. It’s basically doing loop-the-loop over the bar. Participants are fastened in to make sure they don't fall out because of the G-forces.

Looks like another Estonian creation (the most famous being Skype) that's ready to take the world by storm.

Skype hardly took the world by storm, there were always free alternatives for video calling long before Skype, Kiiking didnt really take off either.

@@ilikepiracy1264 I disagree, Skype really did bring video calls and even VoIP in general to the global stage.

We need to install these in all school yards - kids need to learn there's a world of adventure outside of their phone screens! The hard way!

I call bullshit on the 1996 date. We were doing this in 1987-88 in Hungary at the Air Force Academy.
    It's ridiculous fun !

If we are talking about swinging 360* around the fulcrum, then even the 1987-88 in Hungary is in child's shoes. Even in the interview was brought out that there are records of swinging over the fulcrum from year 1783.
This 1996 is not the beginning of swinging over fulcrum but this is the beginning of certain kind of sports with rules etc. So Kiiking does not equal swining over fulcrum. Kiiking = certain concept of sports. ;)

Huh? What about the dangers of it? Looks like it would be easy to fall and either die through landing on your head or become paralysed. They don't even wear helmets. And once you've gone around 360 degrees, how do you stop? That's probably the most dangerous part.

You can't fall off unless the safety straps fail.

what are you talking about.. what straps, those "straps" are for a better grip to hold bars you can still fall off, break ur arms or neck , back whatever.. you actually think some rope on bar for hand grip will hold you on to a swing when you slip and fall ? how stupid are you.. have you even used a swing as child :D ?
ive seen bigger swings than on this video, and noone uses any straps or safety... and they do mostly stupidly it when they are drink on "jaanituli" .. - not sure what the english equalent is...
it looks more dangerous than it actually is... it's more like a test of cold nerves... if you get scared shitless.. is the 99% reason you will fall :D
Look at these russians trying to assimilate into estonian culture.... funny af :D

A true Estonian wouldn’t fall off. And btw, most don’t use straps, they just have gripping cloth on the bars so you don’t lose grip because of sweat. It is usually done on Jaanipäev, which means Jaani’s day, which is the day where Estonians made a major step in revolution against slavery in our country, they burned a fortress and killed every invader that managed to get out of the burning fortress. Ofc they hit back ten fold but it was a major step in our culture. Old Estonians also jumped over fires. Another fact. Teenage boys built kiiks for girls that they liked, the higher the better, that’s why they usually built them on hills because they simply couldn’t build them high enough, then the boy invites the girl to swing on the kiik.

@@Microphunktv-jb3kj mis jama te ajate, kiikingus on alati käed ja jalad kinni ning see ei ole paremaks haardeks, vaid ohutuse pärast, maailmas on viimase kümne aasta jooksul võib olla 2 kiigele kinnitatud inimest suutnud kiigelt osaliselt maha kukkuda, sest nad olid pikalt asjaga tegelenud, keegi neid enam ei kontrollinud ja nad ise valisid omale liiga suured käerihmad, kuid õigete käerihmadega on sealt pea võimatu välja kukkuda ja jalgadestki on mõlemad korralikult kinni, vahest kehvasti seotuna võib küll veidi jalg seal sees liikuda, kuid lahti need ikka naljalt ei tule, vähemalt enda seotud jalgadest ei tea kordagi, et oleks lahti tulnud, seega see ikka väga ohutu sprodiala, nii et ärge ajage mõtetut jama siin ja proovige ise asja, enne kui sõna võtate.
Neid suuremaid kiikesi tahaks isegi näha, nimelt maailmas pole inimest, kes jaksaks suurema kiiguga kiikuda, seega ei usu, et suuremat kiike kusagil üldse kasutataksegi
