I can honestly say British humour has never ever let me down. We've been spoilt for choice for great shows for decades and each generation seems to produce great comedians.
For those confused about the name of the show. Its a mashup of 2 shows. Countdown is a maths and words quiz usually played by middle ages ladies or university maths students. And 8 out of 10 cats is a comedy celebrity quiz show. The host and team captains from 8 out of 10 cats are on the "Spin off" version of countdown, which they named 8 out of 10 cats does countdown
Peter Serafinowicz is part of the team behind one of the most underrated British Comedy series of all time "Look Around You" which is very odd but very funny. The first series is a parody of thoae creaky old videos that were shown to British kids in High School when the teacher couldn't be bothered teaching (I'm not sure if the US had the same thing). 1970s production values and strange electronic music. It nails the feel of those shows perfectly and is brilliant fun to watch. The second series moves on to parody 1970s Science and Consumer shows more generally and is equally funny. Really really weird though.
Yes Peter had a great comedy series, played the lead role in The Tick tv series and was in Shaun of the Dead! He’s very intelligent and is amazing in his voice imitations!
Peter Serafinowicz was also in a comedy sitcom called Spaced with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost directed by Edgar Wright. If you havent already, I really recommend giving it a watch.
I often wonder if anyone actually explains the "Eight out of ten cats" thing! About 20 years ago-ish, there was an advert (a commercial as they like to call it State-side) for cat food. The tag line was that 'Eight out of ten cats preferred Whiskas' (Whiskas being the name of the catfood).
@@ketmaniac you might be right! I am fuzzy on the historic details, but to "outsiders" the term "Eight of of ten cats..." is going to be very weird! So any context is helpful?
@@thebobsful Matter of fact, I think it was originally "cats" rather than "owners", but IIRC there were complaints to trading standards about "false advertising" or some such thing. So they changed the wording.

To explain the strangeways joke. Strangeways is a prison in manchester on the border with Salford (Salford is a city within the borders of Manchester) and is used to house serious criminals from greater Manchester and the surrounding area. There was famously a riot there in 1990 where prisoners scaled the roof for 25 days. This led to widespread prison reform in the Uk
famous in the M Harding song that starts : Last Saturday night I got into a fight And I woke up on Wednesday in an 'eck of a fright 'Cause the judge said "young fella, you're going for a spell Six months' hard labour in the Strangeways Hotel"
@justonehornetto I believe us "pedantics" should stick and live together but, and I don't wish to be too pedantic here, I really can not live with someone who gets their "your" and "you're" mixed up as in your "you're name is "Isle Of Skye" " comment, even here on the South East London/North Kent Borders 😀
It began as a special combination of 8 out of 10 cats and Countdown, mixing silly with nerdy, and it just worked well enough to warrant becoming its own show.
Basically, 8/10 cats is a comedy panel show and it's own thing. Countdown was it's own separate thing as well. 8 out of 10 cats does countdown is when they take over the countdown studio and take the piss on what would normally be a serious game show mostly aimed at pensioners.
Sean Lock RIP had me in tears with his jokes great man. good video king boomer. loved the chants usa vs english but you need to look into that more there is some beauties
Yes, this is basically how Jimmy goes about introductions, typically making jabs at them individually, with some exceptions to add extra onto Jon Richardson... unless Josh Widdicome is on, in which case he is being slatted in all of them. He also does the same for Rachel and Suzie, as well as Dictionary Corner's guest (Suzie over the years has been the source of some of his most show-stopping lines - just look up the "Glory Hole" edition)
I think Kevin Bridges' "did ye? aye." bit is one of the funniest bits of stand up I've seen. Massively recommend that one. Also, Peter Serafinowicz is a legend :D
Here's another one of Jimmy hosting a game show. It's called I Literally Just Told You and it's where Jimmy and the question writers give answers to questions throughout the show and make up questions about stuff that happens as the show goes on. There's this compilation from the second episode where Jimmy is crying with laughter because the contestants are so bad at the game. One of the funniest things I've ever seen. ua-cam.com/video/qMIggDSnPGk/v-deo.html
Jimmy introduces each guest with a 'mini roast' in every episode. Considering there have been 4 regulars (Sean Lock, Jon Richardson, Susie Dent and Rachel Riley) they still manage to come up with new ones each week.
8 out of 10 cats was originally a comedy panel game based around fun statistics. Countdown is a words/maths daily game show that has been running continuously since 1984. A few years ago they merged 8 out of 10 cats with Countdown, which is what you see now - and comedy gold was made.
Hello, Peter is brilliantly versatile, he was Simon Peggs flatmate in Shaun Of The Dead, he was in Guardians Of The Galaxy, his impression of Terry Wogan is fantastic and his humour is top-notch
Peter Serafinowicz ("This guy") was the voice of Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace. He was also in Shaun of the Dead, John Wick 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Peter Serafinowicz was in Shaun of the dead as Shaun's flatmate. He played the sommelier in John Wick 2 and also he featured in Guardians of the Galaxy as one of the Nova Corp.
You might have recognised Peter Serafinowicz from either "Spaced" or "Black Books" - he has relatively minor roles in both of those, and they are both well worth watching if you haven't seen them already.

8 out of 10 Cats is a kind of comedy, team, quiz show that was based around silly statistics kinda... If I remember correctly. Countdown was a competitive game show, where two people at a time will compete at two tasks. The first is making the longest words out of a selection of letters, while the second is using a selection of numbers to try to make a target number. Both of these have a 30 second timer or something, hence the name Countdown... Then, at the end of the show, they normally have a selection of letters that are an anagram of a long word, which the contestants will try to figure out before the other for a bunch of extra points... I think the winner normally gets to stay on for the next show, for a limited amount of times... Later on, the people who did best will play in the finals of the competition 8 out of 10 Cats does countdown, I think, was originally part of some sort of event, possibly for charity or something, where they combined the two as a joke.... Then it did well and they decided to do more... Something like that.
The jokes about Geordies/Newcastle is based on the fact that for a long time the north east of England, and the north is general, is more likely to suffer from unemployment and poverty, hence the bailiffs, and being in jail. And Sarah is from that part of England. Jon Richardson is lovely but seen as nerdy, wearing cardigans , being a vegan and overwhelmed by OCD so naturally a target for a lot of jokes. Kwvin Bridges does a a great standup. Maybe find the one where he's standing at a bus stop. The person you asked about is Peter Szymon Serafinowicz , an English actor, comedian, director and screenwriter, best known for his roles as the title character in the 2016 live-action series of The Tick, Pete in Shaun of the Dead (2004) and as the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999). He has also appeared in many British and American comedy series, and received attention for political satire videos in which he dubs over videos of Donald Trump with various comedic voices. He has also directed music videos for acts such as Hot Chip.
One of the comedians on that clip is Kathy Bates check her out on kevin and perry. It's from the 90's I think. Her and Harry Enfield play teenage boys. It's really funny. They made a film called kevin and perry go large, it's hilarious.
Peter Serefenawits (i don't give a shit if i spelled it wrong) was in a John Wick movie 2nd or 3rd movie not sure, he also plays superhero 'The Tic' on US tv, dunno if he's still doing that though.
Peter serafinovich was the lead in ‘The Tick’ tv series in the US, iirc he appears in The Guardians of the Galaxy. He’s mainly an actor but i seem to recal he might have done some comedy sketch stuff in the early to mid noughties

The start of every episode all the guests get it, even the regulars from normal countdown who aren't contestants. I always like watching the start just to hear Jimmy insult everyone.
