I think it depends on what you had in mind for the build! If your only goal was to take Eldrich Blast, then Spell Sniper could make it a little more usable!
Let's see there's an invocation that makes eldritch blast have a 300ft range. Add this and you get a 600ft eldritch blast. Ooh this could be fun. A eldritch sniper
Also with 3 more levels of rogue you can get the assassinate feat which does not specify the attack type (weapon vs spell) So technically if you build this up to 9th level. So lets say best case scenario. You can pre hex a target. So firing both eldritch blasts, that is 2d10+2d6+6 (Assuming you only have a +3 for your charisma mod since you have no stat buffs) and with assassinate, you have advantage for both attacks AND any hit is a crit. So lets up that to 4d10+4d6+6 damage. at 1200ft.
@@alecwithac69 I think thematically thrown weapons could use the boots turn you into gambit from x men. Green flame on a dagger. Or booming blade on a dart. Giving reach breaks to many other mechanics. Next you will want a green flame blade extra reach to trigger sentinel.

Possible Playstyles: a) Sit next to other spell caster, Spamming Eldritch Blast in order deal damage and act as guard. When enemy tries to delete you or spellcaster buddy, Delete them instead with surprise STR 20 + 3 Extra Attacks b) Fight on frontlines as first line of defense but take opportunities to snipe enemy Archers/Spellcasters/Flankers c) Fight on sides of battle with Eldritch Blast baiting enemy to to come after you. When someone comes after you expecting an easy duel against a spellcaster, BAM STR 20 + 3 Extra Attacks. d) play normal melee fighter but use Eldritch blast to remove Flying enemies from the sky/take out enemies from fortified locations (the top of a castle's outer wall)
I can see using this as a Cleric to get Booming Blade, thornwhip or another attack cantrip, but most of the Cleric spells have spell save dc checks, and are not ranged spell attacks, unless I'm missing something.
Guiding Bolt is the only ranged spell attack for most clerics that would be affected by this spell. You could take produce flame from this archetype for the matching wisdom need.
As a DM I might be willing to add a 4th feature to this feat that lets you take a -5 penalty to a spell attack roll for a +10 damage Which is literally just the caster's answer to sharpshooter and great weapon master feats
Counterspell range is NOT increased by Spell Sniper feat. I do but know why this is given as an answer to investing counterspell range. ONLY ONLY spells with an attack roll.
You say it doesn't apply to AOE, BUT rules as written say it only requires an attack roll and a spell like steel wind strike does cover an area and you can choose 5 targets [I believe]. So, combine spell sniper with a wizard or ranger or character with steel wind strike for a huge area you can attack and teleport to. Just a crazy thought, I'm still new. Awesome video btw
A non-expected use of this feat is to take it as a sun soul monk as its radiant bolt strikes count as ranged spell attacks and it makes the subclass MUCH more useful by increasing the range of your strikes to 60 feet while ignoring cover (and your allies) that are blocking the enemy.
Spel SNiper + Thorn Whip. You don't gain the cover bypass (i'm not sure how cover+melee works in general actually). But you end up with. 60ft range xd6 cantrip that pulls them 10ft. Add in fly, or climb, to be above them. and you pull them 10ft into the air. they fall. take 1d6 fall damage--and if they take the damage, they are prone.
@@ChancesSpellbook I've had some fun with this and the 10ft fly speed for 10 min Elixir Alchemists can make. not exactly super fast.. But man if you stealth above an enemy with it, and yank them up as everyone else charges. Its one hell of a surprise set up for 1 round kill

I'd argue with you regarding booming blade/green flame blade. The increased range does apply to whips/polearms meaning you could get it for some serious damage bonuses to your 10ft range attack or even better when paired with warcaster for booming blade opportunity attacks with a 10ft range... Throw in polearm master and you can get really dangerous
Here is a fun thing. The DM set up a base of surprisingly intelligent goblin's, we had to try to sneak in and get some Intel needless to say our rouge and ranger had a fun time, we got to the end there was nobody except one hobgoblin 650 ft away, it was a warlock, with Eldritch spear and spell sniper that was the best boss fight we had in a long time because it was still capable at short range so it was not like the goblin archers. Yet it was still better to be up close then in sniper range.
Never understood that they include the bard in this feat. You can't pick a spell from the bard cantrips because not a single on requires a spell attack roll.
Sorcerer: Depending on how you view it, get Distant Spell Metamagic and all your ranged attack cantrips have x4 range. Or get this plus get find familar spell and you get Distant Spell on your attack cantrips(touch & ranged), with the bonus benifit of your touch spells being in +100 ft range.

I gave this to a Sorcerer in a PvP match. Not only does it give me access to Eldritch Blast, which benefits from Charisma along with my other spells, but at Level 5 I get two blasts for the price of one. On top of that it also doubled the range of Witch Bolt for my Storm Sorcerer, meaning I could maintain a relatively safe distance (Mirror Image was up either way so good luck hitting) and keep the connection. I might have to burn an action to maintain the damage afterwards, but Quicken Spell makes it so that I could fire another barrage of Scorching Rays while doing it.
i' m interested in using this feat to apply booming blade/greenflame blade with a whip. as it is the only "Crawford approved" way to use the whip to cast those spells...
This feat is good against fleeing enemies, but I't great for an surprise attack against a far away foe. "Oh what's that BBEG? You think you're a safe distance away from my spells and want to start your evil monologue, speech and/or offer for us to surrender/join you? Well surprise bi**h!"
This feat would be useful for my wizard, just to increase the pitiful range of ray of frost, but I dom't know what extra attack cantrip I would take. It won't be firebolt though, because my character's pyrophobic.
Here is a weird question... This is wordered differnetly than other "learn cantrip" spells. It tells you where the Cantrip coms from. But it doesn't say it is of that list. So.. Does this add that cantrip to your spell list? Or does it give you the casting of the other class'? This is a bit important for.. Artificers. Spellsinger is wordered badly "you learn the cantrip" but doesn't have the same wording as others.. unlike other ones the feat requires you to have a spell list already-it doesn't give you the abilty to cast spells. You only learn the cantrip. So.. Presumably you have to have the casting ability to start with. Because if it wasn't adding to your pre-exhisting list. That means that you wouldn't actually be able to cast the cantrip.

Or if you use your currently held that it uses as a prerequisites. Doesn't matter mostly. But for some they do. For instance. Alchemists lv 5 only works if the spell isbcast using Tool Focus. If this feat casts via your prerequisite Casting ability then it would work with Tool Focus. Meaning an alchemist could actually get Necrotic Damage stuff haha. Such ad chill touch.

Would a wild magic sorcerer with metamagic adept and a maxed out charisma be able to take spell sniper? Just asking for opinions on a build I'm working on.
Why exactly wouldn't Booming Blade work??? It says within 5 feet so why wouldnt it go to 10 feet? And honestly it's using the weapon to apply the magic anyway so why wouldn't it work with a glaive at 10ft reach in the first place. ..and if that's "too powerful" then why wouldn't the sacrifice of using a feat fix that?
I wonder if it works with Magic Stone cantrip.. The spell gives you a spell attack. The spell cites a range on it. But i'm not sure if "requires" applies, since you don't attack as part of the cantrip.. --- Spell Sniper is fun with ray of frost+artilirist's force balista push back.

Does Spell Sniper work with Circle of Stars Druid’s Archer starry form? Archer form is a ranged spell attack … so is the range doubled from 60 ft to 120 ft? Does the attack avoid 1/2 and 3/4 cover?
With my tiefling sorceror with this feat im thinking about getting spell sniper. Should I’m having a hard choice between eldritch blast or sacred flame (really good to have against demons, undead etc.)?
The initial ATK would benefit from the Range Increase, and the Cover Bonus. The Saving Throw part of the spell doesn't get the same benefits. At least that would be my ruling!

Strictly speaking, you get bypass cover but not expanded range. Magic Stone is the spell that makes it, the spell itself doesn't have you making the attack. That's a separate action sadly. (that said. GM's should really let that one slide IMO)

Two levels in Warlock and four levels in sorcerer, next thing you know you can hit an Eldritch Blast at 1200 ft.

Being a DM I would allow green flame and booming blade cantrips to work with this feat with 10 foot reach melee weapons.

@MrMetalpunx Try path of the giant barbarian with tavern brawler feat. Can use cards as weapons and adds damage depending on the giant.

Could be good for the squishy Warlock. After nearly getting one-shot by a Fireball, 240 is my new safe distance.
Sadly it wouldn't work with Fireball! It only works when the spell requires an attack roll

This would easily replace the distant metamagic and would work amazingly with a divine soul.
you could use it for a ranger that doesn't use a bow but magic at a long range instead which could be good against were wolves and the like

if you grab eldritch blast as a wizard, would you still get the extra rays when you reach the higher levels or would you just be stuck with one ray?
Doesn't work if they get a save before your role, right? You can't boost the range of vicious mockery, thunderclap, and sword burst?
Eldritch blast + Broom of flying is too op, u could be up to 240ft away using eldritch blash in the air

@@ChancesSpellbook sometimes the rules are a bit wonky and very interpretable. Not necessarily bad but often leaves one confused.

Strictly speaking, you get bypass cover but not expanded range. Magic Stone is the spell that makes it, the spell itself doesn't have you making the attack. That's a separate action sadly.
(that said. GM's should really let that one slide IMO)

It really doesn't, although some DM's rule that you need it to cast through a pole weapon!
