    The best feat I chose for my shepherd druid was to begin as a variant human barbarian with druid initiate.... Unarmored defense translates well into forms that have high con and dex. Rage also works well with wild shapes when I need to use them.

      Do you mean Fighting Initiate?

      @@cavernsandcreatures nope... I began as a barbarian with druid initiate.... Then went druid, just sprinkling a level of barbarian or two along the way.

    Good job pumping out the quality content as fast as you as you do, you should do paladin next if you haven’t already. I’m playing one in my first campaign ever and am one level from getting my first feat I’d love to hear ur guys’s opinions on them.

    Observant is a go to for me when I play a Wisdom based class. A Variant Human Druid at 1st level should have a 20 passive perception with Observant.

    • @Eidolon98
      @Eidolon98 10 місяців тому +1

      If your table actually uses passive perception correctly, then observant becomes much more appealing. Sadly, most tables don’t. Sounds like you’ve found some cool people to play with who really pay attention to the more granular rules of the game. Alert can also provide a similar effect as a high passive perception, as it prevents you from being surprised by enemies.

    • @cavernsandcreatures
      @cavernsandcreatures  10 місяців тому +1

      I agree with @princephantom1294. I don't think I've ever played at a table where Observant would get a whole lot of use.

    • @Lich_Balegar
      @Lich_Balegar 10 місяців тому +1

      @@Eidolon98 I agree with that, sometimes character build options can enforce often ignored rules by proxy too though. Druidcraft is a great example, without Druidcraft it's almost always sunny or partly cloudy with a light breeze.

    • @Eidolon98
      @Eidolon98 10 місяців тому

      @@Lich_Balegar alternatively, you could view druidcraft as the reason why your DM remembered to mix up the weather. Now it’s stormy and travel is harder. Congrats, your cantrip has made the game more difficult. In all seriousness though, do what you want, if the feat plays well for you at your table and you see a lot of use out of it, go nuts.

      @@Eidolon98 I completely agree with that nonetheless I still enjoy the occasional inclement weather.

    I would choose Chef or Tavern Brawler just to make use of Wild Shape's generally free Bonus Action.
    Also, why not use Strixhaven Initiate? It provides a myriad of spells that can be used with Spell Slots unlike Magic Initiate.

    • @Eidolon98
      @Eidolon98 10 місяців тому +1

      I try not to make use of too much setting specific content in builds, so I suppose that has carried over to these recommendations as well. Definitely an interesting choice if that feat is available to you.

      @@Eidolon98 Dragonlance is about the only setting specific prerequisite, which can always be lifted. Everything else is free game, like Strike of the Giants.

      All good, just mention Moonbeam and you'll get a like and comment from me.
      Also, I agree that Resilient Con and Warcaster are essential for a druid, but I tend to prioritize telepathy if I plan on making much use of wildshape. It's just nice to be able to communicate with the party as a tiny scout animal when needed.

    • @xiongray
      @xiongray 10 місяців тому +1

      @@Voidjumper27 I thought about Telepathy and it's great but does language persist through Wildshape? I thought about Linguist Feat to maybe provide a language or three.

    • @Voidjumper27
      @Voidjumper27 10 місяців тому

      @@xiongray It should, you still understand the languages you know while wildshaped and you maintain all of your mental stats, Int, Wis, Cha. The problem is you lose the ability to speak. Telepathy should correct that, at least every DM I've played with has ruled it that way.

    I'm playing a druid for the first time and after being level 10 I don't know what else I could take besides maybe obeservant for having high passive perception. at level 12 and so on for whatever we continue. I knew I wasn't going to take war caster because thanks to being Stars Druid I get to treat a 9 or lower as a 10 so it's not as needed for me.

  • @lunatickgeo
    @lunatickgeo 9 місяців тому +1

    While it has more utility for a Moon Druid, telepathy is still useful so a wildshaped druid can still communicate with their party without having to shift back. It's also a half-feat and can improve Wisdom
    Also Mobile is a feat that carries over in whildshaped forms but can be useful for a druid in human form to get into position much more quickly or get out of a melee situation

      My money's on War Caster. I value advantage more than proficiency, and every once in a while, you can get an extra spell casting as a reaction.
