About 30 years ago, I carried about 80 pounds of art supplies and cameras to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. It was my first art trip. The beauty was paralyzing. I found I couldn't capture any of the beauty I was witnessing. The cure was to start small with some flowers, then trees, then the canyon. I did take as many photos as my 35mm film would allow. It was unforgettable. Both of you do wonderful work. Thanks for sharing your trip.
Grew up in Brookings, Oregon. A mile from Harris Beach. The beaches, creeks, rivers, logging roads, wildlife; hell, the local people are all epic photography, graphite, color pencil, ink, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, oil paint, you name your media, heaven for artists!
@@EmilyOlsonArt I live in Arizona now 😆 talk about a change; yet, other than the beaches, the rest holds true here as well! 👍 We live in a great country!!!
Hello I'm from Oregon and have a beach house in Barview. Which is between Garibaldi and Rockaway. Next trip I would love to invite you and your sister to be my guest. We have a beautiful view of jetty. My favorite is walking down through the park/campground to the beach where I often sit and paint. It's a very quite spot. Please come back to our lovely coast. You did a fantastic job of showing off our spectacular area and I thank you so much!
I recommend Ireland as your next plein air trip. Use Paddywagon tours to travel from Dublin to the scenic areas. ‘They offer day trips and you can capture so much beauty.
I was at Cannon Beach 54 years ago. Your video and paintings brought back some special memories of that trip with my family that I haven't thought about in decades. I definitely need to go back. I do so enjoy watching you both paint (looking forward to more)!
Northern California and Oregon haystacks are wonderful subjects. I find that I exaggerate the breaking surf on the rocks but who is going to tattle on me. Though I have a stand up easel and also a tripod I usually paint small enough to hand hold my sketchbook.
For your next trip I’d recommend Munising in northern Michigan. It’s a beautiful central location for Grand Island, Pictured Rocks, Tahquamanon Falls, Marquette, and Kitch-it’s-kipi springs
Fun!! My husband and I were in all the same areas, it's great to see you painting all the places we photographed. Your painting is always an inspiration, I've been learning since 2019, pandemic painting. 🥰❤❤
come back to the pacific north west but head further north into Canada around the Vancouver area. We got great mountains, ocean, forest, and mystical surprises. There are parks and lakes and shore everywhere.
You definitely arrived ready to work! You guys just devoured those gorgeous landscapes. It seems like every item in your kit was carefully selected- it would be interesting to see you pack for a trip like this! We subscribed to @AnnaRoseBain, too!
There was a ton of stuff to like and learn from in this, and lots to inspo off of, including learning that Steve Hanks' paintings I've been drooling over for decades, are actually watercolors!! Your shared adventure was fun to watch, and you both created amazing artwork!! Yes, you posed in front of the sign, but it bears repeating. You Sisters Rock!!
Hello Emily, TYFS your twin painting trip with us! Letting your viewers in on your personal life is quite honorific for me! Such beautiful locations you chose. Absolutely beautiful paintings by you both, I'm going to check out your sister's site next. 😊
Thank you so much for taking me on holiday with you. Thank you for sharing your work, I loved all of the paintings, by both of you. Very inspiring. Took my sketchbook to the sea today but it was difficult just to stand up! The south coast of England is very varied. Happy painting.
when i went to oregon for a week (big dog show) the people we were staying with took us to the coast, really wish i had of had a camera, so many lovely scenes to try to capture lovely paintings! great job with the driftwood texture on the beach 😀
My son and his family live in Coos Bay, and now I'm even more inspired to try plein air next time I visit. So glad you enjoyed my home state! The Blue Ridge mountains have amazing vistas...would love to see your interpretations.
Amazing to see two sisters soooo talented! I love your videos! Great trip and memories you 2 had! I’d love to see a video of all the gear you packed for this trip. It seems that you tried a variety of stuff. Cheers from Brasil!
Next time to Oregon, go On a no moon night with the tide out and walk on the beach. The Fito plankton will give you a wonderful bio luminescent treat. Green lights come from the waves, and each foot step lights up with green light. It’s just magical 😊
This makes me home sick. I'm an Oregonian who lived at the Oregon Coast for 15 years. I spent many days and hours all along Oregon shores, especially at Sunset Beach, west of Coos Bay. Did you see Botanical Gardens in Shore Acres state park at the old Simpson estate? I used to go there almost daily for quite a while. I didn't paint that entire time. What a shame. But I was a full time mother raising my 5 children. It warms my heart that you are taking this time with your sister, to travel and paint.
I've only visited that lower Oregon coast once but would like to revisit. I attempted to paint the 'haystack rocks' no too successfully. I will have to review this video several times I think.
It looks liked a artist paradise but then I am very lucky as a artist myself I live here in England on the edge of Dartmoor and love going out in the fresh air look forward to seeing more of your videos
I love cannon beach; it has been years since I traveled there. Living in WA state, there is no excuse, I definitely need to get back down there. Thank you so much for sharing yours and your sister's adventure.
Just beautiful! Never been to the Oregon coast, but this makes me want to go! So much natural beauty. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I’m enjoying your channel very much. Just getting back into my art, mostly watercolor and gouache with occasional other media like colored pencil and acrylics.😊
What a fun start to my day! We have a home at Road's End on the Oregon coast. You would be welcome to be our guests if you wanted to reprise your twin art escape! Thanks for sharing your adventures and artwork with us!
All beautiful!! Do you have tutorials on painting different rocks? As a beginner I tend to struggle with different Rock colors and textures, when to wet on wet, when to dry brush, when to glaze etc. Thx you
Nice to see all your setups! What size is the Pochade box that you use? Your link to Blick shows small, medium and large. The side tray comes in two sizes, is yours the smaller one? Thanks for sharing. It's so nice that you and your sister share a love of painting.
This was sooo enjoyable! You've really inspired me to start experimenting with the DS PrimaTek paints. Would so love any tutorials on your membership site based on your reference photos from this trip. I'm new to plein air, and coastal landscapes are my ultimate painting joy.
Beautiful and so detailed video (as always, I appreciate that)! Gorgeous landscapes and paintings! 4:12 was mesmerized by how you managed first washes of that painting and there you undelined my same exact feeling about it ;) PS: how do you understand who is Emily between the two? Anna is left-handed ;) (great jobs by her too!)
I love this!! And I love your “Art before Dishes” hat too! 😂 I need one of those!! Your sister is brave for painting oils on the go like this! Mine would have been a complete mess by the time I got home! 😂 it would have been nice to see her share her work too! I would like to start painting on my beach, but have a couple questions though. How does your tripod hold up on the sand? I just bought one but didn’t even think about how it would hold up over time being used on the dry sand and I’m just afraid that sand will get into the legs stopping it from working properly. Does the sand ruin the legs being able to go up and down at all? Also, I’m curious what you used as a tripod extension to attach to your tripod that holds your phone to record you working. Thanks!!
I ordered the 6x8 pochade box but mine didn't come with the rubber band or the side panels I see you using in the set up of yours. What did I do wrong?

what an incredible place to visit! It looked very deserted too. Was that just the places you picked or the angle of the camera?
We did tend to avoid popular areas, but I think the coast usually is busy with tourism.
