Love gobies and am putting together a 75G with some of the species shown here! I loved seeing this. Great inspiration for me. How many does he have in this tank? I'm scared to put that many fear of them being territorial.
Boy, Ricky's bedroom is the place to be! Thanks for showing us his hillstream tank. The gobies remind me of the Darters we have in our streams in the U.S. Which I assume are protected as many of our fish are, but would make for a fascinating tank like this one. Thanks for showing us this one.
I love the diversity. It’s beautiful to see so many heathy fish with different niches living in harmony. This is definitely the style I try to emulate.
Omg! That tank is awesome! You are very lucky to a have a friend like that to give you such inspiration. As for the guppies, it would be nice to see you get into them. They are amazing little fish with some spectacular colors. My father and uncle had an amateur guppy breeding business in the 60s and 70s. My uncles basement had racks of about 50 or more Metaframe tanks! As a kid my job on Sundays was to help with the water changes, filter rinsing and brine shrimp hatching. Fun times! The strains back then were very healthy and strong with deep colors. I’m sure there are some strains that are still strong.
Gobies are just awesome, so smart and active...the colors are sure bright on the orange ones, and all of them have a rainbow assortment of colors. Very nice Angels...a great fish collection...thanks for the video.
I'm having inspiration inception! Your 150 hilstream inspired me to start mine, and seeing your inspiration is awesome. So many beautiful, healthy, happy specimens in this aquarium! Some I have never seen in those beautiful colors. Thanks for including the extra footage, so much to enjoy.
Beautiful hill stream tank. Easy to see how it could inspire you to set up one for yourself. The angels are fantastic looking. Angels are my favorite tropical fish. I have 8 platinum angels in my diy acrylic tank and really like the blue and slightly golden shimmer in their fins as the light hits them while the swim across the tank. The way they greet you to beg for food is funny too.
Fancy guppies can be absolutely stunning!! Get them if you want to try them out! I had them and bred them for a while but never again. They're not 'easy' like most guppies (at least for me they weren't, compared to mutt guppies). I had a number of strains (including some rare ones) on the go but it quickly got overwhelming and they were finicky with water parameters. I rehomed most (lost heaps too which is not usual for me) and kept going with just Purple Moscows for a while. But by the gods, they breed so rapidly!! I could not sell them fast enough. In the end, I sold the lot and switched to Silver Sailfin Mollies. Best decision ever.
I really loved that neon blue I think you said it was a Stiphodon. Stunning!! And I love the purple finnage on that fish you said you reaally want. Wow. And what are those flame red ones with the crazy finnage and the neon turquoise face! Geez. Makes me want to toss the Endler 29 w/the high flow, lower the temp and make a MINI hillstream :)
Amazing! I didn’t even know many of these existed let alone be able to pick a favorite. My Great Grandpa raised fancy guppies. It was he that got me interested in fish as a child. I’ve been thinking more and more about setting up a small guppy tank.
I love the gobies. They are on my list of most wanted fish. I just don't have the correct set up for them right now. I have a couple of tanks that are not set up yet. I think one of those will be a hillstream tank. I love yours and I love his.

That’s really cool, I’m supposed to go to see Oliver Tonight 20th, but the snow just threw me for a loop. And the 8-11pm🥴 New Yorkers don’t want to travel too far outside of their own neighborhood. Especially that late during the work week. They can just keep my 25 bucks.
i was supposed to be there too, but wiht how bad the weather got at home, I had to head back early early this morning to be with my kids, take care of the animals, and run the woodstove.
Oh wow! I’m not really a fan of guppies either (my family have loads of them so I find them a bit boring) but those show guppy males look like tiny mermaids! They’re absolutely stunning!!
Love the Hill-stream tank! I'm an all around freshwater goby fan and I just can't make up my mind which species I love more! Its like asking you who you love more your husband or one of your daughter lol I can see why you fell in love with Ricky's tank and wanted to recreate one in your own home! Please share more aquarium video with a focus on stream style aquarium, tannin and biotopes style tanks! Also if you decided to show more of Ricky's aquariums especially the Hill-stream aquarium I for one would not complain! ;) Also MY GOD! I love love LOVE his school of Altum Anglefish!!!!

I keep having setbacks in quarantine 🙄 I was just treating for parasites and I thought the worst was over but I’m starting to see ich! I’m hoping lots of water changes and an increased temp might help them fight it off. I’m hesitant to dive into another med if they’re already weak and stressed

WOW, I didn't know stiphidons came in reds like that! They've grown on me over the past few years as they've turned out to be the more resilient and aggressive algae eaters for an Asian themed tank. They would out work panda gara if they were the same size but after looking at that huge one he had I'm definitely going to grow the school in my 55 "high current" tank. Don't let the web fool you, they are not fragile if they go into an established tank and can take some less pristine conditions when life gets rough. Although they won't breed in freshwater, they seem to live long and love hair algae!

Actually watching this video and all the close up work of these species in the tank, I am not sure how anyone could watch this and not want this sort of set up. All the fish are so busy and so interesting to look at and watch.

The atros have bred, but I have no means of raising fry. Same with the percs. Otherwise, I don't have matching females for the other stiphs. The rhinos in this tank are all home bred aside from the parents.
His first vid. (Ricky)that he posted long ago got me into the stiphodons. 7 years later and i can stare at my Hillstream tank all day. Like a little kid in a candy store. I know the feeling. Jealous that he has stiphodon rutilaureus. I could not keep mine alive. Lost 4 fish. But if they ever come back on the market. Defiantly try again.

Guppies are amazing to keep/breed and come in so many colors and shapes to suit your personal taste :) Highly suggest them!
