Probably been said on these comments already but I think this is Parkway Drive’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’ moment.
It’s epic.
The start of that second solo is chilling.
A masterpiece.
Yeah, when I heard it for the first time, I was thinking Nothing Else Matters, or even November Rain.
To think Winston said in an interview a few years ago he didn't think he could sing
He can't. But singing isn't the only way to do vocals. He does his own thing. And he is faithful to the music the band writes. It's brilliant.
@@darryllzwiers7257 He can. You don't listen the song ? Maybe he doesn't have the techniques of some clear singer but he sing right and really good.
@@alleyyroad369 Nah, he really can't sing lmao
@@terryparkes132 Because you can ? So easy to judge and talk when you do nothing.
IMO I think that bands need to bring back more of this "reach into your emotions" ballads like this one. Its catchy and reminiscent of the classic vibes that helped shape metal into what it is today. Alot of people get caught up in the chuggy breakdowns and the new metal sounds (which i love) BTW, but songs like this can add so much more depth to a album and the artist. But this was a nostalgic masterpiece vibe. Loved it!!!!
This is a killer track.
Guitar solo is killer just like in Chronos!
what an incredible song, that will be on repeat for a while..
This is just a musical masterpiece. No matter what you like or don't like, if you can't just hear this song and appreciate how well this song is just constructed and put together musically, there is no helping you.
For the record, I clicked the “like” button here at 11:33 because that’s the bottom line. Have any opinion you want about their recent work versus their early work but this song is absolutely epic.
I love ALL Parkway Drive. Their old crazy heavy stuff, the newer, more melodic stuff. Reverence is an INCREDIBLE album and one that I blast constantly. I’m so excited for the release of the rest of Darker Still.
Thank you!!! So happy I'm not alone in this thought process. People who can't appreciate this amazing music just because "iTs NoT ParKWaY DrIvE anYMoRe" are fucking mental. This the is the beautiful put together songs they've ever released, if you want fast heavy Parkway listen to their old shit and stay being a miserable little troll while the rest of us appreciate amazing musicianship.
Bands grow up, the fans should try it sometime.
@@92SynysterShadows You could not have said it better. If you hate new PWD then go listen to their old stuff which BTW let's be honest isn't very revolutionary. THIS on the other hand is. Best track on the album without a doubt. This will be a sick album! \m/
Absolutely unreal track, and great video as always boys.
They’ve evolved. Winston will still be screaming in 95% of their songs, yet this was a refreshing take on what’s to come. Let Jeff sing with his guitar like we know he can do. Want the thrash metalcore records? Got three of them. Want the progression metalcore? Got two more. Want the stadium metalcore? It’s here. I love the progression while still having the roots. Much prefer this than the radio rock the other metalcore kings have been releasing lately from the UK. Can’t wait for this new album
Getting stairway to heaven and nothing else matters vibes here, now darker still. All incredible songs by incredible bands. Now i can't wait for the album.
Same lol
First 30 seconds I said this is PWDs nothing else matters :)
That whistle "riff" is gunna get stuck in my head! Like The House of the Rising Sun. Excited to see if they play this live when I see them soon!
THAT’S WHAT IT IS 👌🏼👌🏼
Thank you 😂😂
Its like a cowboy movie tune
@@DaMazzaf97 the good the bad and the ugly
So this album is the first I've heard of PD, and this song has blown me away (the whole album is great, but this is on another level for me).
I rarely use the word phenomenal - but that is exactly what this is. Completely agree with Johnny's mini-rant too, and for me it has been an absolute joy to watch this band progress from the Killing With A Smile days to today, that's 16 years of progression and 16 years of absolute quality.
My God that's ridiculously good. I've never been a massive Parkway Drive fan (just never happened, what can I say?) but this album is shaping up to be something really special.
I love this, it’s different but so beautiful
What I hate, is people will automatically blast the band, they will hate it, they will say it’s soft and so melancholy. Ignoring the beauty of the music, the growth in the band and the sound, how incredible this is as a life long PWD fan. Yes it’s not hard, and yes it’s not metal core but how can you ignore this masterpiece? That’s the real shame
What "growth"? What fucking "growth"? Vocals suck extremely, music has become much simpler and unoriginal (I can wrote songs like this, nothing's great about this). Nothing about this is a masterpiece. Is this the first time you hear a rock ballad? There are good ones and bad ones like this.
They used to play good music. Now they play this garbage. "Changing" isn't always "evolving".
@@unclechaelsneckvein fuck off and get some appreciation. Holy shit. You wouldn't know good music if it hit you in the face. What goes through your brain to think its a good idea to type that out and hit send? It's not garbage. This is quite possibly the dumbest comment I've ever seen on youtube
@@unclechaelsneckvein finally someone that gets it
@@Yunal3sca I know I shouldn't be, but I'm so annoyed at everyone prasing them.
@@unclechaelsneckvein facts bro... I grew up near these kids in Byron bay and it shaped my life, they put Aussie metalcore on the map so kudos to them but Sheesh
What a masterpiece. Can't wait for the album. I'm seeing them live in 3 weeks. Fan since the very beginning. Since "Don't close your eyes". Going to see them for the 24th time. So looking forward to it!!!🙌
Holy shit that was absolutely phenomenal.
I've been a Parkway fan since Horizons, these guys along with BFMV are why I love metal music and I loved everything about this, super Nothing Else Matters vibes right out the gate. I didn't have a clue it was Winston singing until you guys mentioned it and it blew my mind. Incredible vocals from him, SUPER unexpected and they crushed it. I can't praise this enough, holy shit. This is incredible in all aspects, the production is unbelievably good, I went and listened to it again on Spotify after the video and wow, just wow. I'm SO excited for the album to drop man. Amazing reaction as always guys, much love from the UK
This is the Parkway Nothing Else Matters
This is a song you don't hear, you feel. Seeing it live gave me goosebumps.
Chills from start to finish! Just musically a masterpiece! Well done lads!!
Definitely on repeat
Most catchy / emotional song I have heard in years
A incredible piece of art
absolutely loving it and i cant wait for the new album!! this song is truely epic in everyway!
This song is so fucking cool from these guys
The best parkway song to date👏Jeff is proper levitating with these guitar riffs and Winston singing clean is hauntingly beautiful. I loved the colour of leaving because it was a different vibe from Winston and this feels like an extension of that. Love how their not afraid to keep pushing boundaries and branching out into new spaces 🙌beyond hyped to hear the whole album if you can’t already tell haha
This band move me always but this new shit is incredible. Love live Parkway Drive
Ever since I span this for the first time I've found myself randomly wandering around work doing the whistling section. A sign it's burrowed it's way into me. Like others have said have whatever opinion Old v New but this is utterly beautiful.
Just listened to the album. I don't mind it.
Soul bleach popped out of nowhere. Was killer.
Sublime ❤crying like a baby. I'm going to see them in October, I can't wait. Great reaction as always, love the fact that you love it, I can feel you love it! I love it! I love you! Nice one x
💙
This song is incredible, a true piece of music composition mastery ,
The whistle reminds me of a cowboy movie and the first solo gives me Dire Straits vibes. Epic song
The incredible, epic evolution of horizons and Chronos meets Cemetery Bloom and Writings on the Wall - I want to hear this live come October!
Being openly honest I love parkway, from horizons to deep blue to atlas to ire to reverence to now darker still, parkway's evolution and progress over the years is evident in them finding their own way and making their vision come true regardless of what people think of them. Winston has said that darker still is the culmination of the vision the band set out all the way back in 2003 and it could not be more evident. The inspirations for this track are pronounced in a way that makes it unique to parkway but you know what the inspirations are. Parkway has put their sound into a new level on this track and the time they put into this album in general making leaps and strides to evolve in the direction they always envisioned from the start. There honestly isn't a track I don't like from parkway and that says a lot, there are some I like more than others but none that I would say I would turn off immediately. I hope parkway keeps on with their vision and propels forward with insane momentum
Metallica influence heavy but the guitar solo sounds straight out of a use your illusion album from guns n roses love it!
So happy with how thsi album is shaping up. Wasn't too huge a fan of their last two albums for the most part, but all three songs from this one are bangers
Nice blend of Southern blues & Northern folk
May melodic metal live on forever !!! \m/
This sounds so old school, and I absolutely love that intro, reminds me of Metallica mixed with some FFDP, but in its own parkway drive twist.
Much love legends - from Tennessee 🤘🏽
100% got reall strong like "Nothing else Matters" vibes right out the gate
There is a good 20-30 seconds at the 10 minute mark, where you guys are both looking down at the centre/visualiser so lovingly, it honestly looks like 2 new fathers looking adoringly at their new born baby 🤣
Oh our baby was behind the screen. It was very tactically placed.
I didn't know I need this, but I need this hahaha. Definitely old school vibes, classic stadium metal mixed with black album grit, so excited for the album! Sort of has a November rain and fear of the dark feeling too.
Epic track and guitar solo is freakin’ amazing.
First off, appreciate you guys introducing me to this band!!!
Second, I've made a list of top 10 albums of the year and this is going on that list, I can already tell I'm going to love it.
And lastly.. any chance you guys'll be interviewing one of the band members soon? 🤔
I mean, we’d LOVE to
This is pure genius. They continue to outdo themselves in every way!!! Met Winston in 2016 and he might be the most down to earth dude I’ve come across in the metal world. To think they were surfers and did the whole punk/metal band just for friends and it took off they themselves didn’t plan on getting big. But look at them now. Amazing
I got into parkway drive late on from the IRE album. So for me I'm not bothered about the so called old parkway drive. And absolutely love the new stuff 🤟
I absolutely loved Ire, and thought nothing would top it but this new album is already crushing it just with these 3 songs. This one especially was just beautiful. Cannot wait til the full drop!
First! Love from the states. Loving the new songs and I’m excited to hear the rest of the album
Honestly this puts Jeff right up there with Slash on early GnR as far as expressive solos.
So excited to see where the lads go with this new album!
I think people become stubborn once they are huge fans and bands change direction, at the end of the day they are truly wonderful musicians and takes a crazy amount of skill not only to come up with a melody and make it all work but to give you a sense of feeling, yes there not like they use to but bands change and evolve , take it as you will but i think there talented in their own way and enjoy their old and new songs. but thats my opinion.
I agree guys the versatility of Parkway Drive is awesome if u guys like epic folk metal listen to Duskmourn from Pa/NJ 🇺🇸 dusk over fields of ruin is a fav of mine
Been trying to work out for ages what this sounds like, and I finally got it. It’s like a James Bond film title sequence. It really has that cinematic vibe. Masterpiece
Alright, a long-winded and overly detailed sharing of a brief history of mine with Parkway Drive, feel free to not read this and have a lovely day either way, cheers. But if you don't mind a bit of reading, here goes...
As someone over here in the US, I first heard Parkway when they released Deep Blue, I had heard a few tracks here and there but didn't put a face to the band so to speak. I had gone through a real rough break up and was having to sort a lot of things out, and the rage and different elements to that album just spoke to me very deeply. Admittedly I was just a broke high school kid at the time and couldnt really afford to buy music so I was "borrowing" it online or just listening to it on youtube. I bring this up because when their record Atlas dropped, the download didn't include "The Blue and the Grey" for some reason. I never knew it existed until one day at a local music store had the CD and I bought it and told my new GF(now wife) "hold on I gotta listen to this track I'll call you back" I quickly paid and went out to my car.
I figured it was probably just an "outro track" because edgy kids would sometimes cut off intro/outro tracks on album uploads because they didn't find them "important". Mind you, this was when Ire just came out so I was years late to this track, and I sat there in my car, volume blasting, and when I heard "The Blue and The Grey" for the first time, I broke down and cried my eyes out. To this day, there is maybe only 2 other songs by 2 other bands that affect me that deeply. Growing up and to this day, I don't cry, never really did according to my parents, but that song just picks me apart. I even left a long winded story time comment(like this one) why the song is so deeply personal to me, I think it's on the visualizer for it actually.
All of that being said, I am so incredibly proud to see their progression and skill. I would love to hear them do a banger someday with the vocal control Winston has now compared to the earlier days, but I absolutely love their new stuff. Now even my dad, who got me into music with Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory that dropped when I was 7(still have that CD) and it was at the same shop I found the physical copy of Atlas like 14 years later, my dad now sends me texts asking if I have heard the new Parkway Drive songs that have been coming out. I never told him about them other than in passing, to where now they are on his radar honestly kind of makes me a bit emotional. "The Blue and the Grey" long story short, lyrically really makes me dwell on the sadness I grew up with in my heart and then how it would grow as my parents started to split apart and being almost stuck in the middle of these two people whom I love moving away from eachother, as well as the one person(my now wife) being kept at arms length partially because of her own family drama at the time, but also my distancing I would do so others wouldn't see how dark my mind and heart are inside.
As I mentioned before, there's maybe only 2 other songs by 2 other bands that make me that emotional, 3 tops. I often share music with people I care about when I can't put into words what I am feeling, or I just don't have the energy to explain this never ending darkness that I have lived with since like, as long as I can remember. I grew up feeling way too much and speaking up about it almost never unless it was too much to handle. But after seeking guidance and the advice of loved ones, I was made aware that my depression and anxiety and being overly empathetic to where I worry about too much and overthink inside likely stems from untreated and undiagnosed ADHD. When that was explained to me and I heard all the things that can come from ADHD I felt so crushed but also relieved.
All the times I would feel anxious because I was called "lazy" or told I was "wasting time" by just listening to music, or playing a video game, or even just sitting in my room looking out the window were vindicated.
I can honestly say that if it weren't for my wife back when we were dating, and bands like Parkway Drive, I would likely not be here. I'm not even ashamed to say that. I'm stronger now than I ever was. Sometimes in order to the light, things have to become darker, Darker Still.
So much love for Parkway and for this channel where people that genuinely like the music can gather and share things like this. Or, you know, over share because being detail specific is one of my many, lets call them quirks haha. Cheers boys!
Shout-out Bloom!
im a new to Parkway Drive fan...about 3 weeks! love some (a lot) of the older stuff but maybe not so the first cpl of albums, a bit too heavy fast for my tates, but particularly love it from Vival La Underdog doco live!! Glitch, first song I heard, love it, this song is amazing and everything you have said sums it up perfectly. Cant wait to grab the new album when it drops!!
Rifferific and clean vox...I'm Sold❤❤❤🤘🤘🤘🤘
The majority of this sounds like it could be a Screaming Jets rock ballad or something! Super emotional solo too, what a great track from the boys.
Reminds me of Russel Brands analysis of Peter's take on Dracula in Forgetting Sarah Marshall "Dark Gothic Neil Diamond" but a reimagining of Nothing Else Matters and Parkway just had final creative say and sprinkled their nuances to it. Brilliantly done. Jeff is epic
I get Whitechapel/Guns N Roses vibes with this one. Love it!
I LOVE old Parkway Drive, I LOVE new Parkway Drive, but holy shit do I absolutely LOVE this new song. The guitar solo and heavier bit had me in chills all over, and I love the calmer sound of Darker still. I am SO stoked for the release of the rest of the album!!!
in an interview winston said this was his favorite parkway song they've written
Wow really! That’s awesome lol
Maaaaan!!! This will be huge at the right venue!!!! It had Metallica/Avenged sevenfold. I did watch this on my phone and couldn’t see the video that well but all I can imagine is Jeff Ling making pure love to and with his guitar !!!!!
Darker still is the first album I've heard from Parkway drive and I love it.
It's not heavy, but a good song is a good song. There's no debate, this was dope
i love the old and the new parkway drive
Sounds like Parkway trying to make their own Nothing Else Matters
While im here, would love to see a breakdown of the new song from Avoid - Whatever
Pink Floyd vibes 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Love Parkway Drive. This has a real proggy feel to it. Perhaps Parkway could do a collaborative with another awesome Aussie band Caligula's Horse. That would be amazing. Thanks for releasing great music Parkway. This song gives me the tingles.
I wasn't a huge fan of Parkway Drive, but the songs released from their upcoming album are great. And this one is beautiful.
deadset should be the theme for a show like the witcher!
Wow this is sooo good! Love the variety this band has been putting out from the start to now. Incredible. Definitely Metallica vibes with the chords, FFDP in the vocals/chorus, And as i saw someone else say, Guns n Roses in the solo. All while having PWDs like pirate metal under tone. Incredible.
I love this song it’s amazing but I hope they don’t change to this style for every song this song is one of the best songs I’ve heard in forever but Winston is one of my favorite vocalist for a reason his tone for his screaming is amazing probably the best I’ve ever heard
A big fuck yes boys
Well all i can say is fuck yes.
It gave me big vibes of 'all that remains - and the thunder rolls'
Jst his vocal tone and the epicness of it all.
Look where I’m at atm with metal, I like the heavier stuff, but the music is really great! You can’t look at new PWD as metal more rock now but that’s totally fine, good on them
Never been a huge fan, but they've been on my periphery. I understand these recent releases are a bit of a departure, but they're much more my thing. Such an epic feel, particularily from this and The Greatest Fear. This quality throughout the whole album would be superb.
I was definitely one of the wtf is happening people at the start. I dig it, major Metallica ballad vibes and then when it picks up you get the classic Parkway guitar tone.
I came around to the different sound last album or two and I'll come around to this direction. That's how good they are.
The video is about building the world and then breaking it down, but seriously. you should think ahead-
reminded me the old rock ballads by Scorpions
Amazing track. The whistling part kinda reminds me of sabaton To hell and back.
The greatest fear reminded me of Sabaton
As a fan of so many sub genres in metal for 30+ years, this song musically took me back to the November Rain and Nothing Else Matters era. Winston's voice is actually phenomenal. I loved this band before, but now, I have a whole new appreciation, because they are showcasing what truly sets them apart from pretty much everyone else. I thought Slipknot were the kings of being able to switch things up at the drop of a hat, but these guys are also diverse enough that I have to say, "Who besides Parkway Drive and Slipknot can actually pull these wide ranges off?"
I don't really like the new direction they are taking, but this song is SOOOOO GOOD!
Hold on, gotta pick my jaw up from the floor real quick.
It's different but it's really well done.i do hope the album still has some older parkway though
definently a great song by a great band, only thing i would have added was a slight screaming section, to show the variance of him and his vocal range and how they've come as a band
Just listen to the album " killing with a smile ", everyone here... And you'll get it
4.30-- total direstraits riff
great song...haters are gonna hate...
The beginning gave me a stairway to heaven vibe. The vocals reminded me James Hetfield singing Unforgiven. The tone used for the guitar solo was certainly Slash inspired. Even a few licks of the solo (the beginning and the end) had that Slash vibe.
It’s not a bad song but I already know they are going to get a lot of backlash for this one.
Thanks for the reaction.
I know these guys have been getting a lot of shit lately for changing their sound, but fuck that. I’ve loved these guys since killing with a smile and I have yet to be legitimately disappointed. I was an angsty teen for killing with a smile, a party animal in college for deep blue and Atlas, and now I’m 28 still blasting everything they put out. Feel like I grew alongside the music. This is an absolute banger
It is a good song. And while I don’t think Winston has a bad singing voice, at least to my ears, it’s not strong enough to carry a song like this. The guitars are what keep me coming back to this.
For me, probably Nothing will top Atlas. But I am looking forward to this album.
I hear so many people comparing this song to Metallica or Led Zeppelin, like „The Greatest Fear“ was compared to Pink Floyd. Obviously, those new songs are influenced by the old style of rock. But so what? They found some inspiration in there, but still create songs of an own unique style. Bands like this evolve music and bring it to the next level, and this is what PWD did with this song. As Johnny said, they are still themselves and are not trying to imitate someone, and I think you can really hear that. They are stepping out of their comfortzone. The structure, the recording, and the instrumentals of this song are so good.
Don’t take the comparisons the wrong way. I would say the comparisons are actually a good thing . That they’ve created something really amazing just like the bands they’re being compared to with this song
That’s how I see it
Am I the only one getting Pink Floyd vibes from this song?
I feel like they are pulling from some old school sounds. Greatest fear had some Pink Floyd another brick in the wall vibes. This had some Metallica nothing else matters vibes and I love it. Different sound but finally not a mainstream arena feel. It feels more like they have their own sound in this one
Dire Straits
The guitar solo reminded me of Wild Stallion from Bill &Ted's Excellent Adventure. Cock rock but in a good way.
The cleans sound like a wounded animal and aren’t working. Hoping for some bangers
Great combo of Metallica and Alice In Chains!
A 7 minute intro
Old school Metallica was my very first thought
American here, but PWD has a total banger with this album, and we're only three songs in so far.
First time i thougt its a dire straits song😂
