Huntdown is an indie run & gun that was recently released for PC, Xbox, PS4, and Switch. It has a really well done cyberpunk aesthetic and amazing pixel art, but it's also a really good game. It plays differently from something like Contra or Metal Slug - you have to make use of cover by ducking behind boxes and pressing up against walls to slip behind bullets. Honestly, I don't like this style as much as Metal Slug's, but I can appreciate them trying something different, and they made it work. I'd still say that any fan of the genre should have this game on their radar, because it's well worth the $20 launch price. In fact, you can get it for only $10 right now on the Epic Games Store if you use the $10 coupon that they're giving away, which makes an already great deal way better.
(Played on Badass difficulty, though it doesn't make a difference. The difficulties only affect how much HP you have.)

I have been going through on Normal. The game is amazing! The music, art and gameplay are spot on. It's one of the best side scrolling shooters I have ever played. Will be hard to complete fully though.
I was given a review key, so I wanted to post a quick video to promote this game a bit and write my impressions. Maybe I'll go for a full 100% playthrough a little later.
Epic game. So much fun. Enjoying everything about it.
Best run and gun ever made. Just finished it on Badass 100%. The only downside is there is no online 2 player. And a leaderboard of sorts. Such an addictive game.

This reminds me of Elevator Action Returns.
The bosses are actually not that bad once you learn them. Getting to the boss on some of later chapters can be tricky without dying.
Aside from Natja, and the Dodson twins, I never had any problems with bosses. The Stages though, especially Sniper Suki's stage kicked my ass. Platforming while being shot at with guided missiles.... urgh....
@@TheBloodswordsman Yeah the Suki level is really annoying to reach the boss without dying. Especially the last sections. The Dudson Twins I found really easy after some practice. Make sure you have 3 or 4 turrets and toss them on the ground on the lower level. Just stay on the bottom, jumping up and dashing when needed. By far the hardest boss for me is Yuudai without getting hit. The Shogun is also really easy but quite long.
Natja the hockey boss? Again you can dash through her and the laser in the second part. I also hated that machine gun army boss. Forgot his name. But yeah it's so annoying to even reach bosses without getting hit a single time for the survivalist medal. I have 100% on Bormal and Hard. But Badass is going to be incredibly annoying! How far have you got? (In the game in general)
@@oxygengraphafonadelaverberator Dashing is very much a problem for me - never got the hang of it - and it's pretty much required for the Dodson twins.
Ironically, the boss you hate , is a boss I love fighting - Shell Shock Murdock. Just keep going back to his stage and boss battle. My favourite in the entire game.
Beat the game on Normal (not 100%, high 90s though). May go back to 100% normal - but the thought of the Dodson Twins makes me cringe.
The big robot that shoots green bullet and a lock on bomb is so annoying to deal with

I think my favorite boss is the Unholy Goalie; dude looks BA and he's one of the very few bosses in the game that just straight up fights you without any environmental hazard BS.
Did you know that if you pause the game during Unholy Goalie's boss fight while he's doing his uppercut attack, you can see a skull in the particle effect?, To see it you have to pause the game on the right timing!
This game makes me want to binge 80s and 90s action movies
Actually looks pretty interesting. Kinda slow but perhaps that's just my impression. This could feel right at home at an arcade.

Poor Sonny, his guitar got destroyed and then burned himself to death. He is probably the weakest boss in the game
2:13 I would make a "you took damage" comment but imagine you could still take damage even after you've beaten the boss, imagine beating someone like Suki on badass (who IMO is probably one the tougher bosses) on badass difficulty and after you kill her you get hit by her homing rocket and have to redo the whole fight again
Can you please make a video some time listing your top 10 or even 20 favourite games? If not could you tell me here? I'm intrigued, you've played so much stuff at a really high level.
Well, my absolute favorite games are Dodonpachi Daioujou and Ninja Gaiden II (360). After that, it gets hard to pick favorites since I like a ton of different games. Mushihimesama Futari, Deathsmiles, Akai Katana, Dodonpachi Saidaioujou, Street Fighter (all of them), Yakuza 0 & Ishin, Persona 3 + 4 + 5, the Earth Defense Force series, Metal Slug X + 3, Ninja Gaiden Black & Razor's Edge, DMC3/4/5, Bayonetta, Ouendan... Those come to mind right now.

Love the game's style and humor, hate the difficulty and dependence on pattern recognition. Oh well! At least I can watch other players take that punishment for me. :)
Oh man nooo, pattern recognition ! Studying bosses and getting good with them ? It's almost as if the game is challenging and demands you to improve or something... Truly hate-worthy, that.

@@navigatingel6104 the hardest difficulty is called Badass lol. It unlocks after you beat the game once on any difficulty. You die in one hit. Lololol.

Say, do the different player characters vary up gameplay? Do they have access to different weapons, or mobility options? Or are they just skins for multiplayer/aesthetic preference?
EDIT: Nevermind, went and bought it - if anyone is wondering: The three characters each have different subweapons. Anna Conda gets a Tomahawk, Mow Man gets Throwing Knives and John Sawyer gets a Boomerang. The three are differentiatied by their throwing arc.
Not to mention, their primary weapons are different too

It's more comparable to Not a Hero (with the cover mechanics) or the CT Special Forces games on the GBA, more methodical and slower paced than Contra/Metal Slug. I prefer games like this. Metal Slug is way too chaotic
The last boss fight ruined the experience of the game in the same way Hotline Miami did. It made a challenging final level and went and made it ridiculous. The trip to hell ruined to this, both in terms of difficulty and story. Terrible boss fight.
