A Look Back at Sea World of Ohio (1996)

- For this year's off-season video, I found some old 1996 footage from Sea World Ohio, which was located in Aurora, OH from 1970 through 2000. The park was then purchased and incorporated into the ill-fated Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in 2001 through 2003 before closing for good. The footage did not have sound, so I added some generic Premiere Elements music to accompany footage of Shamu, the Clyde and Seamore show, Penguin Encounter, Dolphin Cove and Shark Encounter. Also keep in mind that the resolution isn't that great as it was filmed on a JVC VHS-C camcorder. :) Enjoy!

I remember going to seaworld when i was little. I was very lucky to have gone there. I wish seaworld in ohio was still around.

I loved going here as a kid every summer. I remember one summer being called as the kid to sit on Shamu at the show. I was so happy! It makes me sad I cannot take my kids because I have such amazing memories. To this day dolphins are still my favorite thanks to the experience at SeaWorld. Thanks for the video we watched as a family!

I myself visited SeaWorld Ohio at the age of 17 (I still have photos standing next to the Shamu statue) and looking back, I’m so ashamed.
Orca whales live in closely knit pods (families) their entire lives in the ocean, never leaving them. They swim to depths of 300 to 1000 feet and swim hundreds of miles a day.
Seaworld used to actually STEAL orcas directly from their pods in the ocean, such as the southern resident SRKW , separate them from their families and drop them in these tiny tanks to languish for the rest of their lives.
It’s because of greed. It’s selfish, cruel and a travesty.
Hundreds of whales and dolphins have died in their “care” over the last few decades.
I sincerely hope you will learn more about these amazing intelligent animals and change your viewpoint on seeing them as as a source of entertainment for your family.

Thank you for the memories. We were so lucky to have such a gem of a place so close to home, even if it seemed like a short time. I feel bad for the animals now, but as a child going there, it seemed so magical.
So remember this place when I was a kid. Had so much fun there. And the park across the lake. So sad to see it all gone today. Kids today don't know what fun is today.

My family went here in 1997 and it's my earliest confirmed memory. We have a home video of the Shamu Experience and you can hear how excited 3-year-old me was, so it's no surprise I still remember it so vividly.

Good memories at SeaWorld Ohio
I remember dolphin cove and dying to touch one. I did once that I can remember. and then once a dolphin threw a ball out and I threw it back it and it threw it back again, then the trainer yelled to stop it.

My ex boyfriend took me there once in 1985. He beat me on the way home for forgetting to take sunscreen and getting an awful sunburn. Earlier in the day he also destroyed my eyeglasses because I had forgotten to bring my my sunglasses. So I really didn't get to see much.
I met my hubby a few years later and he offered to take me back to Sea World, "to make it right", but by then I had changed my views about animals in captivity. So at least I have no regrets now.
I do not associate much joy with this place.
I absolutely loved Geagua Lake though.
Sorry to hear Sea World made some not so pleasant memories for you. I grew up going there as a kid and absolutely loved it. I even worked there one summer at the restaurant under the water ski stadium. But, I always liked Geauga Lake more. Hard to believe it’s been gone for 16 years now. Took me a while to “get over it” as many of the coaster enthusiasts used to say back in the day, but it still sucks we don’t have GL around anymore.
You want to relive that forever? We don't want to hear that... Why would you bring that negativity here? People came here for nostalgia and good memories... All I heard was 'My ex beat me, like SeaWorld did the wales... I hate this place.' ...Jeez, get a therapist lady... 😑
I can remember as a teenager, everyone in the underwear tunnel being amazed as a shark 🦈 pooped 💩 😆 🤣 😂
