    The "what are children but a weakness through them you imagine you live forever" Larys monologue is up there as some of the best lines in the show. "Love stays the hand" that's a brilliant metaphor. The way Larys delivers the whole thing is chilling.

      Yes, the casting was excellent. Emma in the birthing scene at the start was absolutely convincing, and immediately won me over... I had been concerned that Milly's performance would be a tough act to follow, but the concern was unnecessary.

    Daemon with Baela is like Ned with Arya he just relates to her more. Beaela is a tom boy and a dragon rider like him so its easier for him to engage with her.

    Another place D&D fuck up. Tywin Lannister was married to his cousin. Ned Father was married to his cousin. It was common in mediaeval times to marry cousin/aunt/uncle together , to keep the land and wealth in the family. Never understood why people were grossed out by that. Brother and sister on the other hand is something else.

    Re Damon - a couple of thoughts that I had after watching and your reaction.
    One thing I thought interesting in the parallels between Viserys' choice with Aemma and Daemon's unresolved 'choice' with Laena (which she took into her own hands before Daemon could make any choice) is the reaction from the brothers. Viserys is presented with the choice and responds, "You can save the child?" Daemon responds "Will the mother survive it?" I thought this was telling where their focus lay in the situations.
    I think he keenly feels the loss, but doesn't know how to express it. The look on his face when he witnesses Laena's self immolation to me showed that his heart was breaking. Many people will also point out that a scene was cut that showed Daemon comforting his daughters on the rooftop after Laena's death. I think it was a big mistake to cut this, and should have been left in. He's flawed and despicable in many ways, but he definitely cares about his family (maybe too much, in some instances).
    As to the daughters, I don't think it's so much a 'first child' situation, I think it's more the daughter has a dragon. Daemon has, I think, for his entire life divided people into two categories - people who have dragons, and people who don't, and the ones worth interacting with are in the previous category. His brother was a dragonrider. Rhaenyra is a dragonrider. Laena became a dragonrider later in life when she claimed Vhaegar, the largest dragon still living and the only one of the original 3 dragons that conquered Westeros. That probably raised her a few notches in Daemon's esteem. I think with the former group he can relate to, not so much with the others. He's clearly obsessed with dragon lore and dragonlords, Laena mentions this episode. He's a bit calmer but clearly still antsy - when he was younger he wanted the glory and the accolades and to be hand of the king and scare people with his dragon for control. But now he's older, he wants to be free from the petty politics and seems mildly content but stagnating in Pentos with his wife and daughters. So he has one child who is a dragonrider and he can relate to her, teach her valyrian and the histories, and the other daughter kind of gets left out in the cold. I don't think he's doing it to punish her, but I think it's something unconscious on his part that she's different from him and not as relatable.
    Also hell yeah, another euchre player!

      I know they cut a lot of his more intimate moments from this season which is disappointing, but also kind of makes sense. It would be like showing all of Jamie's character in the first season of GOT instead of letting his complexities be a slower reveal. Who knows what they're going to change from the book, though.

    "Well, I guess she asked for the baby, not for Rhaenyra".
    Me: Exactly, a lot of folks miss that detail for some reason. I get why Rhaenyra went to the Queen(Alicent) with her baby over having the baby brought to the Queen by someone else, because she was probably afraid Alicent would hurt the child.

    • @Glisern
      @Glisern 2 роки тому +13

      Nah, she went up there because the queen wanted her baby "immediately". Rhaenyra, no sane person, would allow someone in that position to just take your baby away seconds after the birth. And just to cover it, modern science and birth practices aside.

    • @sitting_nut
      @sitting_nut 2 роки тому +2

      why would she hurt the baby ? more such babies stronger her case against rhaenyra. rhaenyra taking the baby shows her own irrational paranoia and only helps confirm alicent's suspicions about fate of her sons if rhaenyra becomes queen.

      @@dwnkaomwn3953 so you basically admit rhaenyra certainly is paranoid and petty and vindictive. no other grounds to think and act like that. you are of course free to speculate if alicent is "petty and vindictive" as to "hurt" the new born child (since there is no evidence of that up to this) against her own interest ( since more such children are alive better for alicent's case ) . pure projection on rhaenyra's part, and yours on her behalf.
      also calling out criminal actions of a petty tyrant like rhaenyra, protected and favored by the king, is not "petty", though it may be vindictive.

      @@sitting_nut the same alicent that you’re speaking about literally calls rhaenyra’s children savages for a prank that HER son made up and tried to take a 6 year olds eye. rhaenyra was never petty or vindictive towards alicent at all, it was very much the other way around. only reason alicent asked to see joffrey was because she wanted to see if he looked like laenor. rhaneyra had every right to be cautious considering alicent has treated her like shit ever since she married her father.

  • @Riku-zv5dk
    @Riku-zv5dk 2 роки тому +5

    The books are a bit more ambiguous with Rhaenyra's children. In the books the Velaryon's share many of the Targaryen traits, but Rhaenys actually has black hair despite being a Targaryen, as her mother is a Baratheon, and while her own children don't have black hair, it is very possible for the Baratheon black hair to skip a generation due to their strong genes. This was a plot point in Game of Thrones, as Cersei's children had blonde hair despite Robert being their supposed father, since is most cases of a Baratheon and Lannister having children, they tend to have Baratheon black hair. As the Book of fire and Blood is a history book, we don't get firsthand account of the events transpiring in the story, it's all second hand at best, so we don't see Rhaenyra's relationships from her point of view, just biased sources.
    So, the speculation about Rhaenyra's children in the books is a lot more nuanced, there is a good chance they're Harwin's bastard sons, but it is also just as possible they're Leanor's sons who just happened to inherit their grandmother's black hair, and their validity as heirs would depend on who you support in the debate. I guess in the show they wanted to remove all doubt about the parentage of Rhaenyra's sons, the Velaryon's have darker skin, and Rhaenys doesn't have the Baratheon black hair, leaving little doubt that Rhaenyra's sons are bastards.
    Edit: to further muddy the waters, Rhaenyra herself is not a full-blooded Targaryen, her mother was an Arryn, and her maternal grandfather was most likely would have also had dark hair. Her Rhaenyra's mother had Targaryen traits because Rhaenyra's maternal grandfather married a Targaryen princess. So, there is enough no Valyrian blood in both Rhaenyra and Leanor that their children might not have the traditional Valyrian traits, but this is a moot point in the show as it is quite clear in showing they're illegitimate.
    There is also an irony to Harwin being the father of Rhaenyra's children, back in episode 3 when everyone was telling Viserys who Rhaenyra should marry, when Lionel came forward with a suggestion, Viserys joked that Lionel would suggest his son... Harwin. Lionel stated otherwise, yet as we see here, if they had married so many issues probably could have been avoided, we see thw two clearly care for each other and are good parents. But politics won out in the end. A further irony, the Strongs are a splinter family of the Starks in the north, located in the Riverlands, so despite being distantly related, Rhaenyra's children are still distantly tied to the Starks.

    I think Criston is so set on being a perfect knight and kingsguard that joffery's comments were a reminder of his own failing as a kingsguard. Especially after Rhaenyra told him his dream would never happen he probably felt it was all for nothing, and being such a perfectionist in a lot of ways, a reminder of one failing is probably enough to cause someone like that to snap. (At least thats the impression I got).

    14:15 Pay close attention to what Helena says and it is very important, I wish they had shown us more about Harwin and Laena that watching the series for the agent feels more pain when the characters die, so when I saw the two characters die I was sad for the death of both of them but not to the point of crying for them two characters, you know, I think the writers didn't want to show too much of the two characters for a simple reason and because they probably don't think it's important to the story
    22:24 When Laena says she wants her husband back what she married is true because the daemon is depressed and just realizing that he only stays at home reading a book and not sleeping well the daemon gets depressed he misses Viserys and Rhaenyra but he doesn't want to see them, the daemon we know he doesn't see and so
    26:43 The daemon had said no with his head but even so Laena died and sad I prefer what they did in the series than the book in the book she loses the baby then she becomes depressed then one night she decides to go to her dragon but on the way she falls down the stairs and dies so I prefer it in the series and it's more exciting because we see her bond with the dragon, Daemon loved his wife so much that he didn't show any sign, he loves her and his daughters only the writers don't show it anymore in the book firewing and blood that he loves his daughters and his wife more Unfortunately, the scriptwriters prefer not to show that there were two deleted scenes, one with the daemon hugging his daughters, the other deleted scene and the daemon sending his daughters to the room because they were seeing the mother in the room trying having the baby so the daemon arrives at the time of Laena's death and was unable to prevent her death
    18:19 A curiosity for anyone who has watched Doctor Who, this actor who plays Aegon is the son of David Tennant, he is David, he has worked with Matt, they have both been Doctor Who and now Matt is working with David Tennant's son
    I recommend you watch Doctor Who, it's very good, this series, if I'm not mistaken, has 13 seasons, it's really worth watching. I recommend you watch Doctor Who.

    It's really disappointing that they cut off a scene that stills of have been floating around of Daemon embracing his daughters after Laena's death. Sometimes it seems like they have been intentionally framing his actions as worst than they literally are. Not that he's a saint by any stretch of the imagination, but it feels a little like they want us to think poorly of him, rather than him being the pretty true grey character that he is.

    First i have to say that this show by far exceed my expectations.
    That said it is imho a prime example how forced diversity, even done as good as in this case with the Velaryons can have a big impact on characters..
    The Velaryons originally where not black so it was possible, with an overabundance of good will, to see Rhaenyra's and Harwin's children as true born Velaryons. This naturally changes f.e. how one has to look at Viserys who is not just a Father who loves his child so much to see clearly but either an idiot or a tyrant who forces everyone by thread of death to ignore the glaringly obvious and forces the Velaryons into giving up the rightful succession of their house knowing full well that this is unjust.

    15:26 In England there is an African couple who had a white son, many people started accusing the woman of cheating on her husband with someone else, but no, only genetics makes mysteries that we can not understand. Also in England a mother gave birth to twins and one was born white with red hair and the other was African with curly hair and they are true twins, another interesting case of genetics.

    Nah lol jokes aside Rhaenyra totally made that offer out of the kindness of her golden heart and pure generosity. It totally wasn't because she is trying to entrench the claim of her illegitimate son. No sir. A flimsy marriage alliance is not gonna save Prince Aegon & Aemond’s lives if Rhaenyra’s spawn by Harwin takes the throne & ppl start calling him what he really is. I'm really impressed. You're one of the few reactors that didn't just flat out hate older Alicent just because she isn't doing whatever Rhaenyra or the king wants. Most are saying she's a snake or trying to compare her to Cersei.
    I don't know why so many people refuse to sympathize with Alicent's situation. In the absence of her father, she has few allies in the capital she can trust aside from Ser Criston, and with the King only becoming more ill she doesn't feel her children will be safe should he die.
    Also, Alicent standing up with her "when I am cold in my grave" comment is completely understandable imo. Rhaenyra makes a fairly insulting offer, marrying Alicent's true born daughter to one of her obvious bastards, which would weaken her claim, even if it were for "peace" (which that wouldn't even guarantee) what parent would agree to that?
    Anyway, aside from my rant, great reaction, and I am looking forward to seeing your take on the rest of the season.

    • @bluehope42
      @bluehope42 2 роки тому +5

      What are you on about, what claim would be weakened? Aegon or Helaena have no claim. Rhaenyra is the heir, and Jace, bastard or not, is rightfully next in line. Helaena would marry some random lord but Alicent rejects the offer of her being Queen just because she's bitter that Rhaenyra chooses her lovers while she's trapped in the choices others made for her.

      @Elfstone77 Siring bastards and deliberately attempting to pass them onto the throne is high treason and only isn't being punished because of Viserys deliberate blindness. So yes, marrying one of Rhaenyra's bastards would weaken their claim. And what do you mean they have no claim? As long as their alive they have it.

    • @bluehope42

      @@LordTywinLannistertheBased As the succession follows the heir, it doesn't matter who fathered Rhaenyra's children, their legitimacy comes from her. @@bluehope42 If them being bastards doesn't matter, why does Rhaenyra go to incredible lengths to gaslighting people to believe they are legitimate. Why not come out with it? It's because trying to pass them onto the throne as legitimate is high treason. And bastards have no rights to succession no matter who their parents are, so Rhaenyra being heir doesn't change shit.

    "Over the centuries, House Targaryen has produced both great men and monsters. Prince Daemon was both. In his day, there was not a man so admired, so beloved, and so reviled in all Westeros. He was made of light and darkness in equal parts. To some, he was a hero, to others the blackest of villains."

    The "weirdo" sister, Healana, is also quite the prophet. In this episode, she predicted a major event that will happen to her brother, Aemond, in the next episode. And in that episode,
    she predicts the Dance of the Dragons. This is something new for the show. She wasn't a prophet in the books.

It’s not natural for them, it’s almost like expecting them to force themselves upon each other. imo Ser Cristion was a good man, and this is not to say that he is not responsible for his own actions or to reduce the fact that he is a bitter ass hole now, but i think Rhaenyra bears alot of responsibility for contributing to making a good guy into a complete bitter hate driven man. The way she used him for a bit of fun with no consideration for his values or what her fun would cost him if he got caught, and it was all just a fun fling to her. I think its very realistic to how some very good men or women turn bitter and hate driven because they were used.
