Dig the video! I bet the Joyo pedals would sound a lot better with 1. EQ after it for shaping and 2. Higher voltage “. 12v - 18v wil increase the headroom and really give it more space and more response from all of the controls
I had a board with the American, British, and California with drives and delays in both sides. They acted as 3 amp channels into the return of a Peavey Bandit. They each liked different drives in front but were kinda awesome for the price.
Same here. I run them into 2 katanas in slave stereo. I'm playing in a basement home studio. Sounds amazing. They aren't perfect. But for 30 bucks per amp, you can't go wrong.

I play in a small sanctuary every week (~200 capacity) so I can’t turn my amp up enough to get a tone worth the stage volume. I just wasn’t happy with my POD HD500 (yes, I know I’m a couple generations behind). I picked up the American Sound and love it. It’s probably not going to be my long-term solution but it does everything I need right now
Having owned one of the American Sound pedals in the past, they're great for the money - maybe a little flat or lacking dynamics/feel to play on their own, but very usable, especially when some reverb/modulation gets added in. To be fair though - that's really the point, to give a basic, reliable tone to build off! IIRC the Joyo ones are all clones or based upon v1 models of Tech21's Character series - Blonde (Joyo American), British, Liverpool (Joyo AC Tone) and California. So Fender, Marshall, Vox and Mesa inspired sounds respectively; but not based on a single production model/spec.
agree that once you start stacking gain, mod, delays/reverbs into most modellers that sound will be very convincing. this was a fun video to watch, low key lots of very useful tidbits

Maybe tonex Will still be better, but IR improves Joyo sound about 50% for sure! You should try do another video showing with a cab IR like a v30 too... I used American for more Sweet stuff or pop and bluesy, even rock stuff that needs more bottom end, but I found that with the V30 IR after the British I could reach that references too and now I only use the British as a pedal platform for almost everything and the California Sound with the Joyo Tauren and ZIP Amp (Klon and BB Preamp style pedals) for more heavy and metal stuff with and a Boogie IR after it. Sounds great too! That lack of "Air" on the top end is a thing on both American and British but I think run the Celestion V30 4x12 IR solved that problem! You really should try...
I've been using a Joyo AC tone with a cube baby for IR's and reverb/delay as a dirt cheap direct solution and I really like it. Finding the right IR makes a big difference. Dude, what if you made an IR pack specifically for the cube baby!

I own the whole series of the Joyo "Character" series, and I find that the American is the one I've used the least. I tend to use the AC Tone or California pedals much more for the Hi-Gain tones. But the American is certainly capable of great dirt sounds, too, stacked with overdrives.

This literally just happened to me last week. I removed the toneX from my board for a JOYO american sound, and im using an Angry Sparrow and API compressor for most of the "tone". Sounds fantastic for a clean pedal platform of ambient shoegaze shit.
My Friend is using a Joyo American with his Harmonicas into his small Amps, usually a Silvertone with a 12 inch speaker in it, used to be a 10 inch speaker. He was not interested in a more expensive pedal like a UA Dream.
Makes me wonder what a stereo board with a British and an American Joyo would sound like. I was having a problem with my stereo Friedman IR-X & ToneX pedals and a Joyo would have beem useful for troubleshooting.

Cool comparison. I see quite a few buskers with an American sound on their board. Guess makes sense don't want to take out tonnes of expensive gear. It would be interesting to do the speaker sim disable mod on the Joyo, then add a cab sim after it like an ir loader or an ox stomp or cab m plus and see if that helps with the flat feeling. Although some people don't mod the Joyo and still put an ir after it and say it sounds good.
I bought the joyo american sound and i am now using with some IR's, sounds amazing! I even made my own IR by tone matching with the UAD Dream, got very close!
@@GabrielFingolo do you think it matters to try and disable the speaker sim in the Joyo? I guess it's not a real speaker sim more of a basic eq curve so IR after it isn't too much of a problem. I put IR after my Joyo and sounds great as you say.

What you have with the JOYO is sweet, sweet "Junk Tone." It is a thing, and it is awesome. One dimensional. Yes. Limited. You bet. 100% amazing. Hellz yeah. These things have a place. Why does everyone struggle so hard to sound like everyone else. Pair that trash with the ToneX and see what happens. Do something different.

Very nice, I used the Joyo AC Tone as my direct amp for quite a while and it always sounded killer but after the 2nd one died I decided I needed something more reliable and got the UA Ruby. Great option on a budget though.

still have the Tech21 Blonde in my pedal drawer, too. I use it for bass preamp at times as well 😊

I got a Joyo BanTamP Tweedy hybrid tube amps a while ago and it's pretty impressive. I hate to even say for the price.
the Joyo amp pedals I tried a few years ago were pretty noisy. Hopefully that got resolved.
Mine are also very noisy. A noise gate or volume pedal after them in the chain is really necessary.
Well, you can capture and play the joyo with a Tonex. Your stuck with joyo sounds if you buy one.
You can make your $400 Tonex sound like a $30 Joyo 😂
