After decades of tube amps, I had to go digital to be 100% silent using only headphones. After years of the Mooer Radar, Boss IR-200, Hotone Ampero Stomp II, and Tonex (with mostly TJ captures), I went back to tube amps but with reactive loads and the Two Notes Opus for IRs. The difference in sound is minor but the difference in feel is significant. I gave 100% effort to adopting digital, but in the end returned to analog amps.
yes, we definitely need valve amps without a doubt. the digital stuff has become better but it still does not sound anything like the real deal. the only advantage of digital would be ease of travel and portability but sound and feel wise it is not there yet.
Amp wise, I think there’s some creative things that can be done, I love the concept of the new Fender Pano Verb, 15” 10” speakers with stereo harmonic tremolo, might not be revolutionary tone wise but it is different! I currently don’t own amps, I do miss them but I feel they are more of a luxury than anything. Can’t gig them on most places, can’t play them most hours of the day, it’s generally more practical to take digital gear to most gigs.
I bought a 100w Landry Lexi that checked these boxes for me. I play at home, don’t like to have pedals around just for a bit of reverb. The thing is built like a tank and sounds phenomenal. On par if not a little better than Friedman with reverb.
Just throwing this crazy idea out there, im waiting for a device, pedal or amp, that lets me throw whatever vst plugins I want on it into it. Like imagine if The Quadcortex let you throw the strymon effects in it, like the Bigsky or the new tape echo vst. Would change the way people buy stuff
Agreed! We did a whole video awhile back, maybe it was Guitar friends or just on the channel asking the same question. There was a device called the Octave at the last name that did it. It was basically a small windows machine with touch screen and the ins and outs like a QC. They are updating it with a new version from the prototype that I saw. Could be cool!
I love amps , I can’t afford amps cuz I usually can’t afford anything and if I can afford anything I buy more guitars. Cuz my Helix has so many options and Amps and sounds just as good I’m content with Helix. I still love my Vox ac 15 but Helix does Vox type amps so Good my Vox lives home.
Interesting thought🤔 & I wonder if another view could be do we need anymore profilers/modellers? DSP/CPU hardware is becoming increasingly commoditised, enabling most players to own one. Which begs the question, what comes next!?😯 ...amps with analogue hearts & digital brains?
There are more Kempers out there than Fractal, QC and ToneX combined. I reckon only Line 6 and Boss have sold more digital units than Kemper, and that's because they originated in the 90s.
If we are truthful? Short answer is no. Amps are not needed anymore. Now, do we Prefer to use an amp? I think that's where most people's opinions differ. Personally, like apple vs windows, i don't think one is better than the other, but one might prefer one over the other. Me? No amp/windows all the way! Lol
Modelers are so good, useful, versatile, and affordable, that even thinking about actually getting an analog Amp is like thinking about getting a horse, analog telephone, or tube TV. 😂
Every Sonic possibility in amps and overdrive pedals has been done already, in fact already overdone. imo. But guitarists obsession and addiction with trying new stuff all the time means new amps and od pedals will just keep coming.
Man oh man, I received the new Fender Pano Verb yesterday and it blew me away. YES, we need amps!

Hey! If we don’t have amps, you won’t have profiles! I run my kemp trough a tube power amp and it is invaluable!

So what do you think of the 300 Euro Player upgrade?
And as far as I can see no free update to the PLAYER at all.
If Marshall made a proper TwoRock build quality with a Friedman design, yes with a digital reverb

We need better FRFR solutions
Balancing on one foot is a known "being good for you" thing....not just TJ this time. 😃
I am here for HW on his wellness journey😂. Dude, look into barefoot shoes, too. Balancing IS good for you.
Do we need tonewheel organs anymore?

Got a link? Lol
@@hairman49er search for “octave Haricane c1” it’s not out yet.
This is what I also been thinking. Some vst loader pedal with a touchscreen so we can add our favorite DAW effects to our sound live.

I also balance on one foot. Just saying…. It’s something that people in their 40s+ do.
Well I'm 35.

Do we need more tube amps ?
Not as much as we need more cabs that make digital look and feel like a tube amps
We need a DLC talk asap!! already bought level 3, no regrets....

Nope, no need for tube amps anymore... Feel free to dispose of those outdated useless amps by sending them to me. ;)
For me the answer is no.
