Vivian Leigh was a gorgeous child and she grew up into a beautiful, talented actress. She was absolutely stunning in every film she ever acted in. She was beyond perfect for Scarlett O'Hara. Her natural ease of acting the role of Scarlett cant be understated. Her subtle facial expressions and grace and passion brought Scarlett to life. Playing opposite to Clark Gable was a brilliant choice by the director and producers. It is sad that she coped with frail health and we lost her much to soon. You'd never know that her health was an issue in any film she made. She was a powerhouse. A truly magnificent actress that was a pleasure to watch on screen.
Vivien has left her fabulous and glorious self on film for every one in the world to see until the end of time. We all loved her.....She was an Angel....
Nobody has ever been so beautiful. She was totally unique. She had a fast and hard life and had to fight for everything, particularly with two horrendous problems, one physical one mental. She was a trailblazer - was far from perfect waspish one moment, true kindness the next. And she left us far too soon.
Empiezo el ptogrsy. Maravilloso.

She could play Scarlett because she could be both vulnerable and tough, sympathetic and ruthless, and could age realistically. Her accent had a bit of Britishness in it which made it slightly affected, which was PERFECT for Scarlett. We loved to hate her and always rooted for her, although Melanie was the one we were supposed to like.

Pobre Vivien, sufrir de desorden bipolar estando bajo el escrutinio de la prensa todo el tiempo, no debió ser facil para ella. Fué una estrella cuya luz duró poco, pero que brilló el doble que las demás.
However it is always a horrible thing when misunderstood mental illness is responsible for the loss of love-as it so often was in the past with manic depression-I'm sure now if this was correctly diagnosed in time Olivier-Leigh love/marriage would have endured-Tragic.
Una parte de su vida muy parecida a la de Whitney Houston... y ambas nunca quisieron ver más allá de su propio ego... y dejaron siempre plantados, y esperando... los brazos y las caricias de amor de Cristo!
Finn6861 Vivien buried the fact that she’d left Suzanne so deeply she would even forget to send her a birthday card. I dont think she could cope with it. But being sent away herself at such a young age may have contributed to it, and i think she would tell herself that. But some women arent maternal, i’m another although i brought my son up by myself and he is the love of my life, i have no feelings for my step grand children. I dont hate them but i find them heavy going en masse.
Too bad that Hollywood never tried to write great parts for older beautiful actresses. Especially the older beautiful ones who still have a great sex life, not just looking into the mirror and sobbing for their lost youth.
Not long after she did Anna Karenina, she pretty much had one type of role: a woman scared of aging and losing her looks. Her last role in "Ship of Fools" was the epitome of her stereotype. At the beginning of her career, she's complaining about not being taken seriously, of being too beautiful to have her talent judged fairly. By 1950, she had nothing to worry about on that score. I've never seen a woman age so completely and badly. She was only 53 when she died, and she easily looked 15 years older.
Apparently you haven't seen much then, have you? If you've never seen anyone age "completely" or as "badly" as you claim that VL did. There are a number of people that don't age well. Especially if they have chronic health problems as VL did. Obviously you didn't see how badly Bette Davis aged. Or Hedy Lamarr for that matter. Not sure if that was a botched facelift. Or Joan Crawford; she didn't age well either. Seems as if a number of Golden Age actresses aged prematurely because of the smoking and drinking booze. When VL started out in acting, she was serious about it. Wasn't just about being a pretty face. Vivien Leigh had frail health throughout her life. And passed on at age 53 from tuberculosis that flared up at times over a period of years. VL won an Academy Award for Streetcar in '51. She was filmed in harsh lighting and with an unattractive blonde wig. And went on to win another Academy Award for best actress, in another iconic role in Streetcar. So needless to say it wasn't just about her beauty. She could act her ass off.
That's kind of nasty.... Im Anna Karenina she was at the height of her beauty....and in Streetvar , she was made to look faded...pictures of that time show that she was still as beautiful as ever......and yes Tuberculosis and a psychotic disease will do that to you... ..
Always liked Vivian Leigh-really thought she overcame her beauty with extraordinary acting-Happy that she could be with Olivier-Wonderful 13thcentury dream home-But give up custody of her children? Lost some respect there. Can't help it-Maybe it was because she was sent away to boarding school at such a young age-Didn't agree with that for her either-Looked like parents could have afforded tutor her at home in India-I think this was a great character flaw that decreased my respect for her.
In those days and even now in certain areas, being married without children is unacceptable. Not everyone should be a parent or feel forced to be one . You also forget that she was mentally ill and that could very well have affected her parenting.
finn6861 Leigh would only divorce her on the grounds of adultery and keeping custody of Suzanne. Jill Esmond made the same conditions to allow Larry his divorce. No one blames him. Jessica Lange is an elegant and graceful narrator here.
We never hear medical expertise about Vivien’s ‘illness!’ She could well have needed good counselling after her micarriage, and could well have had attachment issues after being sent to a boarding school from the age of six. What a shame! Too young an age to be separated from parents! Terrible! I will never agree with boarding schools, I really will not. Children need parental love and the parents’ positive involvement in his / her education.
