- Welcome to a new series where we take command of the US navy in order to proceed with operation Watchtower to take control of various islands and push the imperial Japanese forces out of Guadalcanal.
ABOUT THIS GAME
1942: The world is at war
The Japanese Empire expands throughout the Pacific where Allied forces attempt to halt its spread. A desperate struggle for control of the Solomon Islands is now underway.
How will you protect your transports as they deliver troops and supplies in the South Pacific? Will you deploy precious aircraft carriers to provide air cover? Do you screen the area with submarines? Or attempt to lure the enemy navy into a decisive surface engagement?

Please, start group aircrafts into bigger flights, do not atack one flight per time! It is easier for them attack and survive.
I'm going to echo a few other people in the comments and say to group the planes into bigger groups. Sending them one flight at a time doesn't do all that much damage in the long run, you loose the planes and loose the ships you were targeting. Also targeting a ship on the far side of a convoy isn't too good of an idea, you're exposing them to a whole lot more fire as apposed to flying around and attacking the other side, or even a different ship completely.
You need to attack with more aircraft! 2 ain't going to cut it.
Use the Avengers to attack the outer screen of ships. Sinking a destroyer or light cruiser is better than damaging a battleship. Future attacks will have less ships and their AA to deal with to do more damage to the capital ships.
Like others have said. Larger flights of planes. But also stop targeting the ships in the middle. I know you want the points for a battleship or heavy cruiser. However, most of the aa fire is coming from the light cruisers and destroyers. Or the ships on the outside of the formation. Start targeting those ships. They take less to sink and they also will weaken the AA fire from the task force on a whole. Thus making it easier for the following up waves of planes to hit the larger capital ships later.
Taff, PLEASE think about this, attacking a large warship from both sides DOES NOT divide it's AA fire, they are symmetrically armed!
Splitting a small flight to both sides of the ship ensures that they get 100% of the available fire from that side?
Send them (the aircraft) all together on one side only.
Lots of people making the point to attack in numbers (Farm, Stick, Geoff etc respect) so no need to repeat. Sending aircraft over a convoy is also a bad idea.
Might I suggest that you are getting 'tunnel-vision' seeking to hit the biggest ship with limited success and high losses?
If you only have a small flight, it might be a much better idea to attack a lesser ship on the edge of the convoy with a much better chance of success.This will potentially make any following attacks easier.
That said, loving the series and thank you for all the entertainment.

You might want to think about firing torpedoes from the further sub when you attack with multiple subs. Then work your way to the nearest sub so that they are hitting the convoys at closer to the same time and increasing the potential damage. When you fire the nearest sub first, you warn the convoy and they are all scattered by the time the farther subs torpedoes arrive decreasing any chance of hits.

I did not know that. I saw the type IX uboot in Chicago and Pampanito in S.F. Didn't think there were any other WW2 museum subs in the U.S.
So many Avengers lost! If you have larger flights all attack at once, you'll have much better luck! You're letting the enemy ships concentrate their AA on just a couple planes at a time :(
Agreed, it’s best to keep separate groups of aircraft on station around a target, but not attacking with them until all the aircraft you want to attack with are on station so you can do a massive time on target attack!
I'll echo everyone else. You need to concentrate your hitting power, Combined arms. Subs, and large formations of aircraft.

The issue with your torpedo attacks is that you lower the aircraft as far as you can on the air craft height bar. This makes the torpedoes run deeper. Have the avengers attack at the height that is the stock altitude in attack setting.
Maybe also focus on the destroyers? You may actually have a chance at sinking them and reducing the AA and giving your subs a better chance. Also by attacking the capital ships you aircraft have to deal with all the AA. Right now the all your attacks are ineffective
It's a pleasure to see how You are learning this game from one episode to another and in this one you did progress during the one gameplay video.
I strongly recommend grabbing a battleship as opposed to heavy cruisers. better range and harder hitting, it will tear apart those heavy cruiser groups.
Tough about Port Moresby. But you're doing well, Taff. One more suggestion re aircraft attacking ships. If you can launch B-17's the same time you launch Avengers, then you can have simultaneous attacks and should split AAA even more. Any chance you can get dive bombers? Once again, you could coordinate attacks from above and below. The question: 1 battleship or 2 heavy cruisers? - go for the cruisers. Doubles your options if you put them in separate battle groups.
The piecemeal slaughter of the air crews continues to be depressing.
I would think to introduce carriers in this theater as soon as possible, but I still am not completely familiar with the game parameters so I will defer to your instincts. This is fun content to follow. Keep fighting the good fight and good hunting.

As the IJN, I would say get a fast BB(N. Carolina) or 2 Standards to threaten my supply lines and bases as a fleet-in-being. As the USN, I'd advise a 9x8" gun CA and a CLAA for air and DD defense. Thanks for the Cinematics! Very sweet eye candy.
American CLs(Brooklyn/Cleveland) can go toe to toe with most IJN heavy CAs. Also I’m glad you finally found out how good the rockets on the avengers are! Use them for destroyers as well. A flight of 4 avengers with rockets will take out a destroyer easily. Good series Taff! Hang in there it’s hard as the Americans to start but it gets better.
Get a carrier group next rather than BB. More expensive but it means large flights of aircraft. If you come across merchant convoys or invasion forces without a carrier hit the merchants. Enjoying the series. Like the way you edit the action.
I enjoyed the cutaway scene where u show the destroyers firing the depth charges.
I'd have three cruisers and three destroyers before I'd get a battleship.

As someone else has said before, the idea of an anvil attack *Should* be very useful, but in this game it is not. The AA guns on both sides think on their own, rather than in real life where they're (mostly) controlled by the towers. It does look very cool when its done, I will admit, but not very useful.
Also, maybe try hitting some of their destroyers before you go after the capital ships. While yes, they don't give as many points, each destroyer has more AA fire than most of their battleships and heavy cruisers. If you get rid of some of them, it'll make air attacks a bit easier down the line.
Lastly, when it comes to torpedos, I believe using the formation attack will give you more hits, as the torpedo will have more spread. Also has the side effect of the planes not clipping into each other, which makes flak a lot more lethal. A great series so far aside from these small things!
Rocket attacks on Destroyers, low level bomb cruisers, carpet bomb and torpedeo on Battelships, dive bomb on carriers.
Try take out first some of the AA ships to help the torp bombers then go for the BS
You need another surface task group in the area- start with a heavy cruiser and a couple destroyers to get more units in the area and interdict Japanese supply convoys and pick off their smaller units at bit at a time. You're getting beat in the numbers game, and you're burning through way too many aircraft not doing any damage that's sticking. Also, any way you can invest in dive bombers? Those may give you better results.
I think you need to get your airfields up to Level 5 or invest in an aircraft carrier to get the Dauntless dive bombers.
Does the fleet resupply ships? if not, those avengers would have been better served by taking out the destroyers and cruisers first, leaving the BBs less protected, IMHO

You need to get dauntless dive bombing is pretty effective. Also try skip bombing with your B17s
Two heavy cruisers is a great deal less weight of firepower but with two ships you would get speed and more shells in the air during a fight.
For me flying aircraft simulators it best to hit the closest ship or the ship farthest from the formation to pick them off then when there isn't as many ships then go for the priority ships with a massive strike or conduct a decisive strike but that's me. And after they drop there payload make them turn away from the formation (I would) flying through it is suicide. (If doing torpedo strikes)
500 feet or 650ft for a drop on your torpedo's with the Avengers in altitude @Taff in Exile!
Pre-set their speed to max so after they drop the fish they go to max speed!
And then set their altitude to high so they really climb out of there for a better chance of survival after the fact!
If you really want them to have an individual targeting on a ship instead of group targeting give the target to each individual plane, then do a break to the formation and give the attack order to each of the planes then they will all work as a single entity!

I know, the Baby are the big prize but maybe you should go for the AA screen first. Most of your torpedo planes get chewed up before they have the chance to do anything and your flat bombers are neigh useless against big battle ships.

I know I'm late but good grief this guys decisions are driving me bat shit crazy.
this game is very broken, however for the sake of self-inflicted pain I say we go with 2 heavy cruisers as we need numbers. I would even suggest more destroyers and subs instead of cruisers.

The torpedoes didn't go underneath. Remember, they're about 10 feet in front of the bubble trail.

Piecemeal torpedo attacks are pointless suicidal missions. Avengers can be used in level bombing ... and level bombing can be done from 10K feet .... above all but the largest of AA guns ... Also, dive bombers are more effective and survivable..... you need to try to co-ordinate your strikes with your submarines ... have the bombers target the escorts and the subs can then go after the BB's and CA's.
Could you not attack from several angles with both aircraft and submarines. But most enjoyable 👍
I love ur videos. But ur aircraft torpedo tactics are not good. You constantly fly over athleast half a battlegroup before you drop ur loads. That is no good. Perimiter ships first. Then work inwards.

Start attacking destroyers easier kills and get some much needed command points. Your not doing enough damage to the big ships you are wasting planes

It would sound like a highly logical thing to do, but in WOTS, bombing the enemy's bases from the air is not a thing. The only way to attack enemy bases is to bombard from the sea with cruisers and battleships. Yeah, sounds crazy but true!

why did you send your planes across the line you should of just attacked 3 waste man you need to sort out what your attacking every attack you fly over half the fleet to attack hit the outside ships destroyers crusiers at least you will get torps off insead of wasting planes wow 27.40 you do same thing again considering your fails you think you'd try a different aproach
