Glorious! Particularly enjoyed the anthem with the chorale . Thanks as always for posting.
Torna-se cada vez mais raro ver corais infantis com essa qualidade nas igrejas. Parabéns ao coral!
This translates as
It is becoming increasingly rare to see children's choirs of this quality in churches. Congratulations to the choir!
Strange to think that this recording is 30 years old. I was the Decani Alto and during this time the BBC broadcast Choral Evensong live on a Wednesday and a recording on a Friday. Dr Michael Smith the Organist & Master of the Choristers at Llandaff at this time was a relative ofSir George Clement Martin and we used to do a lot of his stuff including a Te Deum which was performed at the Thanksgiving Service held on the steps of the Cathedral in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year accompanied by Brass band.
And I was there too! Standing right in front of you
Actually, from the beginning of 1998, the BBC moved the Friday afternoon recording broadcast to a Sunday evening instead. This was one of the first (if not THE first?) to go out on a Sunday evening. Unfortunately, the live concert that Radio Three had broadcast earlier that evening had severely overrun, and this Evensong was broadcast considerably later than had been scheduled. The announcement at the end of the recording that I still have concludes with the words "It's three minutes past midnight".
If the recording really was from 10th Jan 1988, then you've got the wrong choir photo - as that was the line up a year later....but I don't remember this at all - and I was a chorister there in Jan 1988..
Many thanks for your message and I can assure you it was broadcast on 10 January 1988! genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?adv=1&q=Llandaff+choral+evensong&media=all&yf=1988&yt=1988&mf=1&mt=12&tf=00%3A00&tt=00%3A00#search
Regarding photos, we use either a generic photo or a photo dated as near as possible to the recording date.
Although the broadcast went out on 10th January 1988, the recording was actually made the previous autumn (during October 1987).
