I went there in 1971 and hiked to the top of Lassen Peak. This brings back memories. You also remind me of my young bride in 1978. Beautiful young lady, good hiking and happy travels,
2017? better late than never! i remember back in the 70s as a boy scout on a 50 miler through Lassen NP when our final day was a hike up Cinder Cone with our 40+ lb. packs. definitely hot and sweaty, but the dip in butte lake after was great.
I used to hike up Lassen in May thru late June with my skiis and ski down to many times to count. Then go to the little lake just below the trailhead and swim and kick back for a couple hours. My girlfriend finally joined me on the ski /hike / swim day and she still says it was the best day she has ever had. Did this back in the late 90's early 2000"s.
WOW GIRL! I admire your stamina and endurance! As a trucker, I have driven through Lassen but never had the time to stop and explore it. Thanks for your knowledge and this video!👍👍
@@AliceFordAdventures The fires are insane, a new one broke out on Sunday, and has already claimed a few lives, hundreds of structures and thousands of acres, it's heartbreaking. Feel free to ever message me if you want some cool spots to checkout up here, I've been all over the place up here.
Lassen is so underrated! A friend and I camped at Manzanita Lake last summer for two nights and hiked Cinder Cone and Lassen Peak (Bumpass Hell was closed). It was honestly one of the best experiences of my life - the whole park is so beautiful and tranquil. Highly recommend checking out everything covered in the video, as well as the short Subway Cave Trail on your way to Cinder Cone.
I remember a great backpacking trip I did with my family to Lassen National Park when I was 12. Camping at Rainbow Lake and Snag Lake offered endless fun for me and my brothers. Great job with this video, it brought back some great memories! I can't wait to watch some of your other national park video reviews.
I live 12 min from the entrance to highway 36! Just went the farthest one can travel by car 4 days ago, to the lodge. Covered in snow, already! Really gorgeous!
I've explored Utah's parks quite extensively (but still not enough yet), but have barely scraped the surface of California's parks! This has to change. Lassen would fascinate me for sure. The Channel Islands call to me too. Technically, I've been in Sequoia NP when I hiked Mount Whitney, but I need to see those trees up close! Enough talk of me haha Lovely video Alice!
This park seems like a beauty to adventure through. Luckly for me I LIVE in lassen so I can go out here as many times I want, except of course the time it takes to get out there and having to pay, but tomorrow my family and I are going to this park finally so I’ll have to keep my eye open for these spots. Lassen volcanic national park is one of the most beautiful national parks I know, considering I grew up learning A LOT about our home national park.
Yes very fun. We planned to stay till Sunday, left Wednesday but sadly we had to leave early. Something came up and half the party had to leave. It was fun while it lasted, we hiked to 1 of the spots in this video, kings creek falls, we were going to go tonight to the lava beds but like I said, we had to leave earlier so I didn't get to experience it, but it definitely was very fun to check it out. We also adventured through the subway tunnels. It was amazing and cool. Later on in life i'll have to go back and check the rest out. The scenery was amazing as well, we got to experience seeing part of the milky way last night through the night sky viewing event that happened. And the fires are completely fine so far, not close to the national park thank god. While camping we had to keep the fires down low because of so many fires happening so quickly. The fires aren't close to my house as well, we haven't had to get evacuated though, thankfully. Hopefully everything turns out well and the fires die down.
Sorry to hear that you had to leave early. I am glad you got to hike to one of the spots, and hope you get to return again soon. I didn't get to do the Subway tunnels so I might need to go back again too.
The subway tunnels are pretty cool, if you go there there's 2 ways but 1 of the ways are blocked off so you have to climb over the rocks to get to it. There's some cool things in the tunnels that I think you'd like. In the normal way you end up at the exit, but the other way you don't, there's a fence blocking off a path but the other way is so low that my older brother that is shorter than i am hit his head so if you go, be careful of the ceilings, and because it's pretty cold down there but if it's warm, it feels good as well, maybe if you go plan to go in the middle of the day so you don't freeze.
Alice Ford, we hiked the Kings Creek Falls trail, the Devils Kitchen trail, the Manzanita Lake trail, and part of the Cinder Cone trail. It was getting dark, and we were tired, otherwise we might have climbed all the way up the Cinder Cone. I hope you are able to make and post more videos, especially about hiking.
Nicely done video. Thanks for bringing us along. Reminds me of Wai-O-Tapu in the North Island of NZ. Has similar boiling mud and sulphur smells. You never know when such places will wake up again, pressurize and go BANG. Hopefully with good warning first. Remember Mt St. Helens in 1980?
Alice, Loved your presentation but one minor correction: Cinder Cone and the Painted dunes are in the Eastern portion of the Park. And probably the easiest way to access them is from Butte Lake which is on a dirt road that takes off from Hwy 44. I would highly recommend to any park visitors that they obtain the Lassen Volcanic National Park map published by National Geographic. Just the “Right” level of detail for most destinations. The road through the Park has just opened this last week as I write this, June 26th, 2024. Mark L
Hello Alice, First off thank you for sharing this video with us. Second, I want to tell you I think you're a total babe and I like hearing you talk Geology. I'm currently studying it at Youngstown State University here in Ohio. I've been to around 20 National Parks and the goal is to see them all. I have not been to Lassen Volcanic National Park yet. After watching your video on Lassen I'm putting it on my schedule of places to explore this summer. Thanks again for sharing.
I just watched your video on Lassen, and it was very impressive. You have made me a fan of your channel. I am heading out to Lassen this summer and I will be hitting some of the areas in your video. Thank you for sharing this with us. Keep up the good work.
by far, the best videos I've seen for the great outdoors. The media you produce is phenomenal, I was instantly hooked. You've achieved to capture my attention for longer periods of time. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for bringh me around the world with you and let me dream!! You are such an amazing adventure girl, I love your energy power and enthusiasm for travelling with I rely with you
Fancinating. Are these volcanoes dormant or extinct? Judging by the activity they might wake up one day! Thanks for sharing. Keep travel vlogging. Adventure is better shared with friends!
Hey great video Alice. I sure appreciate your in-depth knowledge and coverage of the park. Let us know if you do tours of the park. We'd be first to sign up. God bless.
Thanks! The hike up the Cinder Cone was well worth it! Some of the lakes will still covered in ice and the Bumpass Hell area is closed for the season for repairs, but we found some other areas to explore and still had a great time!
I believe the Cinder Cone is actually located in the Northeastern part of the park, not the Eastern part as mentioned in the video. Lassen Peak itself is in the Western part. Both are worth seeing.
Thank you for this! I am moving up that way about 30 minutes from the park I am so excited! Crazy question.. Where did you get that shirt? I love Elephants! Thank you! Oh! And I LOVE the music you chose for this video!!
What an awesome place to live. I actually can’t remember where I got the shirt I either ordered it online or got it in Cambodia. If I can remember I’ll message you back

@ 3:11 any time you're in a national park and there are hot-springs/Boiling Mud pots never step off that wooden bridge the NPS has set up to walk on, its there for a reason and those people on the right side of the vid are risking stepping into and falling into a boiling water pit !

One of my most favorite spots, I live in Redding, and I grew up taking trips to Lassen with my Mom. Still to this day I hike and fish this area.
Thats awesome! I hope you are safe from all the fires. I love this area, and look forward to exploring more of it.

The 'exoskeletons' at 1:26 are from dragonfly nymphs which crawled out of the water and from which adult dragonflies emerged.
