- Thailand depends on its tourism sector, and normally welcomes 14 million visitors annually. But Covid-19 saw visitor numbers plunge to just four million last year.
In the key resort of Phuket, mass vaccinations are being organised ahead of this year's tourist season.

I lived in Thailand for 7 years. Although the economy relies on tourism, the Thais assumed they would always have this income and took tourists and their income for granted. Perhaps they will appreciate them more now.
Things would improve greatly for Thai people if they didn't have a right wing military dictatorshi, who are profitting from it all, right now.

It's sad to see all these people out of work and struggling. However, Phuket was breaking at the seams at the height of tourism with hundreds upon hundreds of boats out in the water dumping thousands of tourists daily onto the precious islands and beaches, with no control or accountability. Meanwhile, on land the infrastructure was breaking apart. The traffic alone was atrocious. Phuket was always a double-edged sword: stunning beauty quickly being eroded by over-tourism. Hopefully the locals can find a happy medium between then and now.
