Curios about @LeicaCameraGlobal Q2 low light performance ? In this video I share pictures taken at different ISO values so you can judge yourself how it performs. For the second part of the video join me for two night time street photography walks in Brussels, on a rainy and on a dry night. What are the challenges that you face when you are doing street photography at night ? Would love to hear your thoughts !

I like the way you sneaked to the guy with the hand on the street lamp :)
I totally love your style making great photos in any situation. You have a special eye. And the q is sort of your third hand I think. Your videos are good to learn a lot. Just go out and shoot anything :) With those pictures the low light capabilities of the q2 do not matter much I feel. Those moody pictures tell nice stories.
That orange picture in the end is a masterpiece of simplicity. Well done, really.
I have a question: could you do a video where you just shoot JPG out of cam? No corrections afterwards.
Hi there smo ! Thanks a lot for your kind words and for your question which will be a future idea for one of my next video: SOOC pictures with the LEICA Q2 :). no editing. Will do that soon :).
@@OctavianCarare very nice. I use my q2 only in jpg mode because I don't like editing. I use jpgs for small updates in highlights, shadows, sometimes contrast and sharpness. I often cut a little bit. But there are very many photos I just keep as they are since I always try to take the photo as its meant to be in the end.
So I am very curious how your photos out of cam look like. I suppose not that much different since you style lived by the content of the photo and the right moment
Well the raw files give you more flexibility and I have made some presets that I use but I will give it a go your style. Do you use a certain profile for your JPEG files ?
@@OctavianCarare inside rooms standard profile, outside I like the vivid look. High contrast bw is also very nice. White balance mostly automatic. Articifal lights are sometimes a problem, but most time it works great. Dynamic range is sometimes a problem when photographing against lights. Then I go for shadows and correct the lights in post really quickly
Wow, the orange shot with white reflections was beautiful
Thank you Darryl :)
Wonderful and so inspiring
Thank you Gail!
Really enjoyed this. Will come back to it again and again while getting to grips with it.
Thanks Tom! I am glad it was helpful:)
Excellent mate. Love the abstract shots of the shutter at the start. Looked really futuristic. I could understand why you was shooting the orange sign at bus stop until you showed the final images. Great shots. Very creative. Low light performance of the Q2 is exceptional 👍🏻
Thanks a lot Tony ! Glad you liked this video. I would say that Q2 low light perfromance is good, not great, not bad, but for my use I am happy with it. Thanks again for watching for the kind words :)
Great photos.
Glad you like them! Thanks a lot !
“5 Guys” running man is my favorite image. Video is nice, as usual 👍
Thanks a lot mate ! Glad you enjoyed it ! :)
Beautiful images, and really informative about the low light performance of the Q2. My favourite shot: the backlit sax player. Stay safe during our new lockdown Octavian! Best wishes, Bart
Thanks a lot Bart ! Glad you enjoyed this video as well! Stay safe as well :)
Love these videos. The only feedback I have is it would be nice to see what metadata you have for each picture you put up in the video. As someone who is learning photography, it’s nice to see how others set their camera.
Hi Dylan ! I will think about it but I don't want to get too much information on the screen when I put the pictures :) not to distract the viewer :)
Thanks a lot for the video, Octavian. Your low light shots with the q2 look fantastic. Way better than I have seen them from other sources! Great photos.
Thanks a lot mate! Appreciate it!
Some killer frames here🔥🔥 I love shooting in the night. I was out yesterday at a very fancy Train Station. I brought my little gorilla pod to be able to keep ISO low.
Thanks ! I go up to iso 6400 on my Q2, never carried a tripod with me for night time street photography. I like being mobile :)
Just great...in my opinion! Watched it several times...
Thank you!
Last shot was excellent.
Really enjoy getting out in the night light when i get a chance. Another fine shoot.
Thanks a lot John ! To be honest it looks better on the PC but I guess Premiere Pro compressed it or I have done something wrong as the shadows on the right side look a bit weird (in the video). Glad you liked it ! :)
The closeup of the security shutter was genius !! Perfect crop.
Thanks mate ! Glad you enjoyed it ! :)
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Great images. ❤️ nighttime photography
Thanks so much Isaac ! :)
Loved your post. My favourite shot was the abstract of what I believe was a shop window shutter (6 mins 18 seconds) . I think that the current absence of people is an opportunity as it makes you think more about your surroundings and what you can lift from them. My Q2 arrived in the middle of the latest lockdown in the UK - can’t wait to be let loose on the streets of London when the restrictions are lifted !
Thanks for watching Peter and thanks a lot for your feedback ! Would love to see your work with the Q2 when restrictions are lifted and you start roaming on the streets ! :) Regards, Octavian
Another phenomenal video, Octavian! Too many favourites todo list them here! Kudos!
Thanks a lot Eddy! Glad you liked it 🤩 ☀️!
I'm retired early due to some health issues, I live in Switzerland now, originally from the Middle East. A good friend of mine gave me a Leica Q2 for my birthday in May. He asked me to take and send him pictures of this beautiful country. As you know due to Covid he couldn't attend my birthday so he ordered it to be shipped to me. Now that I have it I'm trying to find a complete tutorial on how to use it A to Z. If you can make a simple to understand tutorial for beginners or send a link to an existing video, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Wow 🎉❤❤❤
Terrific!. Looking forward to another B&W street video.
Thanks a lot Peter ! Well why not do another one than ? :) Thanks. Maybe this time I will do it with a Q2M :)
@@OctavianCarare Wow! You've got one now? I picked up mine 2 days ago. Still getting to know it. I love your videos even though they are Q2, but some Q2M videos would be great. I'm seeing a big difference with ISO ability from Q2 from tests on the web, especially the one from UA-cam's Mathphotographer and his 'Leica Q2 vs Q2M video High ISO Comparison' video. Mmmm, I will look forward to some Q2M night pics from you!
Great work Octavian, very inspiring. Thank you for the video
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you Dino !
There are no people on the streets but still those shots came out great. I like how you creatively find the picture in some apparently easy to overlook places. Not heaving much to work with but still delivering the best results. The shots are very beautiful, the colors, the shadows, the reflections, and your effort is much appreciated. Awesome job again👏👏👏
Thanks Alexandru ! Trying my best to be creative at night :) Thanks again for being such a supportive person, appreciate it ! :)
used of studio shoots, your videos give me desire to go back in the street as i used to do before.... I'm waiting to buy the Q2 that's seems to be so pleasant to use.
Try to get one for couple of hours and see how it works for you 😊. I love it for street work. Glad that my videos inspire you😁
Wow brother you killed it! Nice work
Thanks mate!
Wow, really nice shots!
Thanks a lot! appreciate it !
The shot at 11:02 - wow. Great video as always, Octavian.
Also, I see there's another M camera on the shelf.. New video on that coming soon? ;)
Thanks a lot Ken ! Glad you have enjoyed it ! :)
Well you have a pretty good eye M9-P :). I borrowed this camera planning to make a video but the battery it's not in good condition therefore I can not use the camera for a video :( Maybe I will find a new/better battery :)
Some great shots - love the way you use the rain - must practice that here in Wales - we get plenty!
Glad you liked it ! Don't wanna be rude Robin but you have to change country :D. I have no idea how are you coping with all that rain :D. Living in Brussels I had enough :)
@@OctavianCarare Ha ha, we are allowed to travel 5 miles at the moment and that's it - might get to England next week if they lift the restrictions but at least I'm getting my vaccination on Saturday! We will get there and we can see some sun!
I'm new to your channel and like your photos/video. I'm also new to the Q2. Can you share your user settings for street night photography? Thanks!
Hi there ! Well at night usually shoot at maximum iso 3200, shutter speed 1/125 to freeze the movement (if this is what I am looking for) and f 2.8 or even f 1.7 If it's pitch black :)
Muy buen video Octavian , muchas gracias
Gracias Manuel !
Some really lovely pictures 🙌🏾
Thanks a lot mate !
Your very good at night time photography 😊
Thank you so much 😀
@@OctavianCarare your welcome , just got my Q2 and just started setting it up. So intuitive the menu .Cannot wait to take it out . check my Instagram and maybe we can go shoot together when travel resume .
hello octavian. wonderful set of photographs that you present to us (and so today I don't choose any in particular :). you have, in fact, a very peculiar look and full of surprises. many times we can only see what you are doing after presenting us the final result (a good example in this video are the pictures at the bus stop. very good).
in my opinion, and in relation to low light performance, q2 does its job with good quality (taking into account the many pixels of the sensor). but the truth is that this camera has a lens with incredible quality at any aperture. thus, we can use the large apertures to lower the iso and this allows us to shoot in low light with an excellent final result. the lens is truly superb, in my view. although the noise at 6400 is acceptable, it doesn't seem to be as good as other cameras I've had (xpro3 for example). but as I said, the lens allows us to compensate with excellence using 1.7 (for example), because the image it offers us is fantastic. either way I set an automatic iso only up to 3200 and that makes me very comfortable in most situations. in fact I am really satisfied with my q2 and I see that you are with yours too :)
all good octavian
Hello Isaque ! Sorry for my late reply :) I am happy to use my Q2 up to 6400 without any issues and yes it's not as good as other cameras, I fully agree with you here. I am glad that you are satisfied with the performances of the Q2 :) keep up the good work, your street photography is on fire lately ! :)Regards, Octavian
@@OctavianCarare hi octavian. don't worry, I understand you perfectly. I also have very little time to respond to the different platforms where I like to "walk around". we all have work to do, don't we? :)
all the best
ps.thank you very much for your kind words in relation to my work ;)
From this video, 4 photos stood out for me:
1) The man running in front of a Five Guys
2) The man walking through yellow light/blue street
3) The B&W of the man leaning against the pole
4) The silhouette of the saxophone player
Thanks a lot Ralph! Glad you like these 4 shots! Appreciate it!
Great shots! I have a Q and will get it out at night for some shots! I will use the 3200 ISO as it seems to work well at night. Thanks
Thanks a lot Reginald ! The Q should look even better in low light situations :). Have fun and thanks for watching ! :)
I enjoyed your video, especially the image at 6:21. I’ll email you a recent Blue Hour photo I took with the Q2 along with a MilkyWay image I took in Aug. ‘20. These images represents my night photography with the Q2.
Thanks a lot Walt ! Well received! Love the shots, thank you for sharing !
Fai sempre foto interessanti , belle .
Grazie Luciano ! :)
Such a sick vid! That bus stop shot🔥🔥🔥
Keep it up fella, what type of settings were you shooting at? Fstop and shutter? Mostly low? Say for instance the guy sitting at the bus stop?
Thanks man! I was probably at 1/60 and f2 , I will have to check to see exactly :)
Did you use ibis when shooting this? Ibis really improves night photography of the Q2. Love the photos and upload as always!
Hi Billy ! Thanks a lot ! Yeah, I do use it, actually it's always on :) Thanks again !
Very Inspiring as always! I'd love to see an editing video :D
Thanks a lot mate ! Yeah, I know I have to do that soon :)
@@OctavianCarare Can't wait!
Great video. Can I ask which focus setting do you generally use for night time shots? Thank you
Thanks ! I use mostly AF but if I shoot through windows then I switch to manual :)
What ISO where the last shots? They look clean
I need to check but my guess it's 1600. The max I used was 3200 if I am not wrong.
Octavian, generally I think street photography is overrated and pretty poor for the most, however your the exception. As always some great shots there fantastic talent!! Loved it. With the regards to the orange bus stop shots were they reflections? Thanks for sharing, again real talent!!!!
Thanks a million Wally, means a lot ! Glad you enjoyed it ! Yeah, that was a reflection of the bus stop accross the street, a rare moment of inspiration :). Thanks again for watching ! :)
@@OctavianCarare keep up the good work and thanks again!!!!
@@OctavianCarare p.s excuse all the spelling mistakes in the previous message!
Superbe vidéo encore! Je travaille pour DxO. Tu devrais essayer notre logiciel DxO PhotoLab 4.
Hello there, do you have any instagram for your street photography?
Hi there, yes: @octaviancarare
Beautiful photos but you have the camera for this :-))
Thanks ! I would say it's the photographer, not the camera ;))
@@OctavianCarare Of course, you're right, always but here the camera is a good tool too, an expensive Leica :-))
Wa Pap, m-ai plictisit cu intro-ul .... noroc de pozele de la 6:33, 7:53, 9:49. Dar tot o mizierie ala Papelo :))
Intro e timelapseul ala. Apoi e discutie stiintifica 😁. Merci bolo! Mai incercam pana iese 😁
Would this be better than the Sony RX10 MK4?
I don't know, I havent yet tried the RX10 MK4
do you think the high iso create a film like grains with this camera?
I don't think it will look exactly like film but the grain coming from the Q2 is not unpleasant. You can try to replicate the film noise in post production if you want.

All hand held? Yes?
Hi Greg ! Yes, all hand held :)
Excellent Octavian. I pick up my Q2 on Monday and am looking forward to starting out with some street photography. I appreciate your inspiration mate!
Do u find the fouce sound is louder when the aperture is set to 8 or higher compare to when it's at 1.7 ? To me the fouce sound at 1.7 is more like muted, but when is at 8, it sounds louder and clicky 😂
Hi man ! The sound is the same at different appertures. If you want to go completly silent you can put it into electronic shutter and it's mute :)
@@OctavianCarare thanks for replying!
I’m from India. “Lack of people”!!! … is that a thing?
Hahah here in Belgium sometimes yeah :) streets are empty 😬
Love Brussels..... Great shots!! I need to get back there..
Thanks a lot mate ! :)
@@OctavianCarare Why was it so noisy at 2k? for some reason 3200 didn't look so bad...
That's sad to hear :( hope it will end soon !
Why is not possible to expose more than 8” with iso 3200?
Hi Andrea ! It is possible to go longer than 8". Have you tried selecting shutter speed - long term exposure - T . Let me know if it works :)
@@OctavianCarare yes, i tried. ISO is limited and linked to the exposure time. unfortunately Lica says that it is in that way to protect the sensor from overheating.
Great channel!! How did you set the ISO to 5000 on your Q2? I have only been able to manually set the ISO based on the default fixed values ISO 50, ISO 100, ISO 200, ISO 400, ISO 800, ISO 1600, ISO 3200, ISO 6400, ISO 12500, ISO 25000,
ISO 50000. Is there a way to change the ISO in 1/3 stop increments? I didn't see anything regarding that in the Q2 manual. Thx! :-)
Thanks a lot Patrick ! The iso was set on AUTO, aperture at f 1.7 and shutter speed auto, I just played with the exposure compensation wheel and I got the different values of the ISO . Let me know if it works :). Regards, Octavian
@@OctavianCarare Thanks! I've had my Q2 for a couple of months. I was wondering if I missed a feature 😎😎😎
I'm always a little disappointed, when i look an the results of the Leica Q2 in various videos. The Q2 has no chance in comparison with the Leica M6 and cinestill 800t film. Neither in colors nor in grain. The photos with the Q2 and many other current pixel peeping digital cameras perform steril, unnatural, too clean, over sharpened and color off.
There is no beauty and soul in digital nowadays. The more megapixel the worse it gets.
The race of the megapixels is on :) everybody is buying megapixels nowadays :)). I agree with you, some digital cameras they look way to unreal or digital :)
