Looks so pretty, Matt is a great husband for doing things to keep your place so pretty.
Yes, he is a tremendous blessing!
This couldn’t have come at a better time for me to watch this. I have been stuck trying to figure out the best way to make my backyard look better on a very limited budget and I was supposed to start on it last month!!! I hate feeling stuck! This was such a lush looking refresher! It truly inspired me to lay out my basic plan and get started! I know how this must make you smile to look out the window and see your own little national park space! That is what is inspiring me about this video! Just lovely!🌺
Yay!
I'm glad you picked up some ideas & motivation! You're right, looking out the window is beautiful and peaceful. Totally worth the work & investment involved!
Painting the fence was the biggest plus. A+.
Wow, such a great refesh on the fence and patio. My husband power washed our patio, and I was amazed at the difference it made. We alsoput a border of drylayed bricks on either side of our concrete entrance walkway. Little things add up.
Yes, they do!
Thanks for stopping by!
Love it!
Thanks!
I work in real estate and you’re so so smart to put things in your home that will have a good return on investment. I usually encourage people who are looking to sell their home now or in a few years not to do something super super personal that’s permanent, but, that a house could be livable and look clean and fresh when they first move in… Then they can do what they wish!
I absolutely love the trellis on the fence idea! What a great way to spruce up a fence. I'm thinking clematis, morning glories, climbing roses, I wish I had a fence now!
Glad you found your visit inspiring!
After much research, I think the greatest change to our yard was planting two desert hardy rosebushes. Yesterday we hit 111 here in the Phoenix metro. I am still enjoying all its flowers!
We are cooking here too but not 111 yet, thank God! When it’s just June and the humidity is raging here we even get frogs singing about how much THEY love it, smh! Is yours a dryer heat than along the gulf coast?
@@thechickincharge1073 of course, we’re in the low desert. Today it’s going to reach 112 and the humidity is 10%.
Glad you found some flowers that flourish where you live!
Which roses did you pick? We've recently moved to hot south Texas.

Your fence and new trellises look great. Awesome idea to put castors on the cabinet.👏🏻❤️
Thanks so much!
So wonderful!!! You two are so inspiring and such faithful stewarts of your home! I envy a backyard now, but had my turn in life and loved it ❤
I hope you find, and knowing you you will. Find just the right trailing beauties for your area.
Thank you both so much for all your hard work and love...❤💕❤
Thank you so much for your kind comment, Miss JoAnn. Have a lovely weekend! 🌷
Also, with gaps in the fence there is likely spray from the paint/stain that will get through to your neighbours driveway and any vehicles. I do love the overall result. You likely took those concerns into consideration beforehand but just a caution for others.
I was wondering that too. I would love to do this with my fence but afraid of the paint spraying into my neighbors space. What did you do so that wouldn’t happen?
The spray is very fine and we used a special tip to direct the spray downward.
We also were sure to let our neighbors know of our project so they could move their vehicles just to be on the safe side.
Once again the transformation is most excellent...you and Matt strive to be good stewards of what you have...your positive attitude and work ethic is so inspirational ...thank you for sharing...all the best...Melanie Fay
Good afternoon, Miss Melanie!
Thank you for visiting today. Have a lovely weekend. 🌷
Your backyard is looking so pretty I like the lattice on the fence gives it a whole new look Matt makes it look so easy. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
You guys are the perfect pair!! Everything the two of you do turns out awesome and is exactly what the area that you're working on needs to add beauty and value to your home!
You are so sweet to say that, Miss Ilene! We definitely have our share of projects that don't work, hopefully that ones we share are helpful to others who want to beautify and add value to their homes. Thanks for stopping by!
Beautiful.
What a great team you are!! The fence and cement staining were brilliant!
Thank you!
Very beautiful yard😊the fence looks brand new! 😮
Thank you!
Looks so pretty and refreshed Rachael! Perfect for the summer months ahead
Yes! Thank you!
What a beautiful spot! Love your budget ideas! Great job!
We're glad you found the ideas helpful, Miss Karen!
Hi Rachel, Both you and Matt make such a great team. The fence along with the trellises, turned out beautifully.
We're glad you enjoyed your visit!
Oh you did a great job on this, it looks amazing as all your projects do!!
Thank you, Miss Sharen!
Your improvements were lovely and the fact that you grow your own veggies is so smart! Yay you guys!👍👏👏👏👍
Glad you enjoyed the projects!
Like all the projects that you and Matt do this one is just superb.
Thank you!
Your yard is so inviting!
What a nice compliment!
Another great diy project!
Thank you, Miss Carolyn!
Lookin' good!
Thanks!
Remember to keep looking up❤
It looks beautiful!
Thank you, Miss Tessa!
That fence is beautiful!!
Thank you. Matt did a great job!
You and Matt are too cute! What an amazing job you did on your fence! I am also lucky to have a very handy husband. Our favorite project is our front yard herb garden made in a Celtic cross shape with antique brick walkways (bricks that are stamped with their origins were free). Love this video! God bless. ❤
We're glad you visited, Miss Marie! Your front yard herb garden sounds lovely!
Lovely!
Thank you!
You can plant English ivy in that shaded area. As long as you can water it regularly and well. Can’t get more “English cottage” than that.
Thanks for the tip!
Speaking from experience - my husband planted English Ivy 30 years ago on our house for that same look. It has been a nightmare. It can ruin brick and it grows like a vine throughout the lawn. No matter how diligent you are, it's something I would think twice about. Just wanted to pass my experience along.
Hi Rachel. I miss having a backyard so it's lovely seeing your's. And all the beautiful plants. The apartments are all blacktop, gravel and dirt.🙄
What a great transformation -- it helps that you are both handy and interested.
Thank you, Miss Jean.
Yes, Matt's skills are a blessing! Have a lovely weekend. 🌷
I live in the South and our winters are generally mild with brief “cold spells”. I buy many landscape plants end of summer and fall on sale, and plant them. They establish themselves through the winter and I have lovely “new” plants in the spring.
Thanks for sharing!
Planning to clean and restore my fence and so far this has been the most helpful video yet. Really encouraging, thank you for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
Oh my gosh I really love this transformation it’s realistic and obtainable. It turned out great. Thank you so much for sharing.
Absolutely, you are so welcome!
You both are so creative and talented!
Thank you!
We appreciate you stopping by. 🌷
It looks beautiful and the perfect backdrop to the green plants 😊 I have a question about the concrete stain...how long do you expect it to last? Is it easy to touch up? We live in Southern Ontario, and our outdoor structures take a heavy, heavy beating. Our deck stain will only last a year before it peels right off, so my husband and I have given up trying to maintain it. Our small front porch is concrete, though, and slightly covered, so I wondered if the concrete stain would be an option for us
I'm a recent subscriber to your channel and newsletter and have really been enjoying your content. Watching someone transform a space on a reasonable budget and vintage decor is right up my alley!
Hey Kelly, Matt here. I like the concrete stain because it absorbs into the concrete instead of sitting on top like paint. That makes it less likely to peel. I've never lived somewhere with your climate so I don't know how it would do. You might try talking to someone at a local paint store. They will have more experience with your area.
Can you link the concrete stain and the fence stain? Everything looks great! What a beautiful transformation!
Matt here, I did a quick search and didn't find it on Amazon. We bought it at our local Sherwin Willians store. Here is a link to the company website. www.hcconcrete.com/product/colortop-water-based-2/
This video was so relaxing to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh, you and Matt could not be more adorable and you work so well together! I’ll tell you it would behoove a lot of us if he could just do a video once on just the correct way to paint interior and exterior! We do live on some land, and sometimes it just feels overwhelming to me…you’re going to laugh, but what I’m really looking forward to it our next chapter is something a bit smaller, lol!maybe you could come by our place up in Virginia!🎉❤
We're glad you enjoyed the video! You might check out "The Idaho Painter" here in UA-cam for interior/exterior painting videos.
It would be fun to see your place!
❤❤❤
This is lovely. I'm getting so much inspiration from your simple creative touches.❤
Wonderful! Thank you for stopping by
Looks so nice! You and Matt are a great team.
Thanks so much!
AMAZING transformation! God bless!
Thank you! You too!
Awesome transformation.
Thank you!
Love it! I’ve never thought about using a sprayer before.
Glad you found a helpful tip!
A sprayer is so much easier and faster!
Hi Miss Rachel,
I love the industrial castors on the dresser. Brilliant idea that I will copy. I have a very heavy welsh dresser that is near impossible to move to clean behind. Thanks for the tip.
My new home (just moved in) has hideous colorbond fencing. I'm going to look into spraying it. It's so ugly with dings in it and ugly marks everywhere.
I learn so much from you and your husband. Thankyou and blessings from wintry high country Australia ❄️🙏☺️
Good morning!
I'm glad you found the caster tip to be useful. Here is the link to the ones we used: amzn.to/3z4TZMy
Your fence will look wonderful freshly stained! Thanks for visiting from Australia and have a lovely day!
Great project. LOL I caught a glimpse of your garden bench. I have the same set. Mine is from 30 years ago and is a glider. I also have the table and chars. The good powder coat has worn off after so many years in the weather. I first painted it with house paint but it only lasted for 6 -7 years. I had to take my angle grinder t it and get all that off and the rust. Then I sprayed t with primer and spray pant. Loving it again.
Sounds great!
At 5:57- you may want to try clematis up this trellis! I’ve had luck with the dormant ones from tractor supply you can buy in the spring for $6-7. After three years (sleep, creep, leap) mine were 5’ and now several years later it’s over 10’ on an obelisk. Also a few packets of sweet peas may work. I just adore flowers too. What a difference the trellis make!
Great idea, thanks!
Great . ❤❤❤❤
Loved this video, it was so soothing and enjoyable to watch. subscribed. and your backyard looks wonderful!
Welcome to the Stone Cottage Home family! We're delighted to have you along!
learned a great deal here. I have painted my (concrete) front porch and have problems with flak-ing. I had no idea that I should be using a concrete stain. Surprisingly, I cleaned and painted my sidewalks and that paint does not flake even when being exposed to the variations of weather.
I have more understanding and confidance to tackle a few more projects. THANKS!
Absolutely! Glad to help!
Great tips!
Glad you found them helpful, Miss Polly!
Τέλεια αυλή!!!!!!!💅💅💅💅🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
Thank you!
Your fence looks so good with the refresh. Why would you waste the money to replace it?
I can’t wait to see the next video with the plants 😍
So beautiful thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for visiting!
Very nice!
Thanks!
Great job! Looks so nice !!
Thank you!
Looks so good❤
Thank you, Miss Linda!
Love ❤
Thank you!
Nice work be over later 😊!!!
love it!!!
Thank you!
What a difference! My whole house is board n batten and its huge. We washed it too but didn't use bleach. We used a power washer. Now I want to paint it, I guess I should use stain but I want to use 3 different colors.Any suggestions from Matt? I can't wait to see your trellis's filled with pretty!
Matt here, you can paint if you want. I would just suggest using a primer made for exterior wood first. That will help the paint stick better.
@@StoneCottageHome Thank you for the advice!
Plant sunflowers on fence.....
I'd like to add a fence so my dog can go outside. In an HOA community we only have 2 fence choices and I'm not sure that he couldn't jump over either one, so I hesitate. I also have pitting in my cement patio that has a metal and screen lanei attached to it. Not sure who could advise on the best thing to do (I've read that it's caused by air bubbles when it was poured, but that was years ago.) I love the way your yard is coming along and I wish I didn't have to pay someone to do each and every little thing.
Matt here, I'm not sure about the pitting. I'm not very experienced with concrete. If the pits aren't very deep a coating may help even it out a bit. If they are deep I don't think paint or stain will help.
@@StoneCottageHome Thanks, Matt! The pits aren't deep, but there are many, plus the spots around it where the newer cement was added are chipping away too. I would just break it up and start over except the metal framed lanai is attached to it. It's probably just the kind of job the builder did years ago. Thanks for trying to help. Enjoy your beautiful yard!
I love the idea of using a garden pump sprayer for painting the fence. Does it not clog the pump sprayer once the paint dries?
Hello, there!
Once Matt finishes using the sprayer, he cleanes it out, so there is no residue build up.
Things are looking beautiful and I love the concrete stain. If you have paint on your concrete from 30 years ago, can the stain still be applied? What color was the stain? Love it. 🥰
Matt here, the concrete stain we used requires bare concrete. You might find a chemical that can remove the old paint first.
@@StoneCottageHome Thank you so much for the information. 💕
What type sprayer did you use on the fence? It was NOT a paint sprayer ....right? Yard looks great after the refresh❤
Good morning!
We used a Dewalt manual pump sprayer. Here is the link: amzn.to/3VmdLLj
Have a lovely day!
How does the bleach and water affect the soil and plants near fence?
We haven't had any trouble with either.
Are those bricks on your roof? 😲🤔
Sharp eye!
Nope, they are fence pickets that Matt is testing out different stain brands on for his business.
Link to the casters?
Good morning!
Thank you for your patience. Here is the link for the brass casters: amzn.to/3z4TZMy
