For context on the Matuidi situation, there a rule in MLS where you can only sign 3 Designated Players (DP for short) who are essentially players above the salary cap that was created after Beckham joined MLS. The problem is that Miami listed Matuidi as a non-DP in 2020, but it was revealed that his wages were above the salary threshold. To avoid losing Matuidi, Higuain or Roldolfo Pizzaro they sent Argentine youth-international; Matthias Pellegrini out on loan to Fort Lauderdale CF in USL League One. It was a terrible decision since Matuidi was terrible and would retire in 2021, Pizzaro would get loaned back to Monterey with Miami trying desperately to get rid of him (at the time of writing) and Higuain after a terrible first season got better, played alongside his brother (Federico Higuain who spent most of his career in MLS) and had a stellar final season by scoring 16 goals before retiring in 2022.

If you ignore how bad the team/org is it makes sense. Nationally relevant city without being crowded with stars like New York or LA, great climate, huge Spanish speaking population, and short flights(compared to the rest of the league) to both Europe and Argentina.
Also I’d imagine Beckham being the owner was a big part of it somehow.

A small correction: The 2014 announcement by Beckham wasn't a true expansion announcement. Beckham's contract clause to get a MLS team did have an expiration date. It was an announcement that Beckham was exercising that option and basically giving a stamp of MLS approval to let the governments know that a stadium deal gets them an official expansion announcement. That official announcement came much later.

Watch Club Brugge build a stadium. It has been 15 years since their first plans. And couple of months ago, after 4 projects, their latest plans got approved to build a new stadium next to the old one on the old training pitches. But got rejected because of a local who lives next to the old stadium complained... In 2 years, Club Brugge will not be allowed to play their champions league games at the old stadium anymore because it won't be up to code.

Development around the stadium is the game that most investor-owners are up to. While Beckham is running the soccer team, the primary owners are working on leveraging it as the "hook" for greater wealth.

As someone who lives in Miami and has followed this saga, I'd like to further reiterate one of the points of this video: Miami FC. Not only did Miami FC get founded after the announcement and start playing games before Inter Miami, they also won titles, back to back league titles in 2017. Not to mention, Miami FC has been playing in the general suburb area of University Park by FIU and they've always been localized in Miami during their entire period. Even though Messi is coming to Miami, I still feel apathetic to the team and I'd rather cheer on Miami FC. Don't get me wrong, Messi is a phenomenal player, rightfully so the GOAT, nut the whole mess Inter Miami has had has just made me uninterested to follow their games.

He made it seem like Inter Miami was PSG, doubt they'll be last especially if they get some players to complete Messi's playstyle

As a European im more interested in the MLS than the Saudi League. Even tho Messi probably got a good money deal, atleast I feel this move is not all about the money and more sportmalike. Not to mention he seems to be trying to make a Brand for himself after he retires for which the MLS is a better "Retirement League"

    Firstly, Florida is Purple 😜
Secondly, I would love to see a video about NYCFC’s history cause I honestly think their stadium situation is funnier than Inter Miami’s… oh and the fact that they won the MLS cup in 2021, thanks in large part to their conference final opponent having a Covid outbreak the week of the match and then celebrated the title with a hilariously small championship banner.

Just checked on the size of Miami. I didnt know how tiny the city is. Population wise it is smaller than Duisburg (GER), Murcia (ESP), Leeds (GB), Tucuman (ARG). People have to spend money on tickets like crazy in Miami.
