Galaxy supporter here: Columbus came to L.A. in 2018 and there was a Crew fan roaming about the North End, trying to get the attention of members of the Angel City Brigade. I sat very close to them and was familiar with the leadership, so I told him I would help him out. He was a little drunk but thanked me and told me that earlier in the week, he had tried the same with the 3252 LAFC supporters and they harassed him and didn't want to listen to him. I told one of the ACB capos about him and they brought him front and center and announced to the ACB section that we would support our brothers and sisters from Columbus. So, they started a loud "SAVE THE CREW" chant and the rest of the North End joined in. It was awesome. The Crew fan stayed with them the rest of the game and I saw him give someone a Save the Crew scarf. Just goes to show that MLS is a family... except for those LAFC orcs.
I got front row tickets to that game so I could fly out and hang my SaveTheCrew Flag from the front row. I was worried they'd make me take it down cause probably blocked a sponsor logo, they did not. The fans in LA were very kind and sympathetic. We lost that game 4-0 but it was still a great experience, plus i got to see Zlatan front and center which as a soccer fan in general, was great
As a DC United fan, I have enormous respect for the Crew and their fanbase. It was great to see them win MLS Cup. They've shown that MLS OG's can still compete in the league. Keep up the great work, Danny!
As a native of Columbus and a big Crew fan, THANK YOU! Great video! I was so disgusted when it was announced Precourt was moving the Crew and the fact we ended up saving them is something I seriously didn’t think would happen. I couldn’t have been more proud of my hometown. 🖤💛 GLORY TO COLUMBUS 💛🖤
Adidas being on board with SavetheCrew and making the Community kit was probably the final blow for MLS, cause know your own Equipment sponsor is essentially telling you "Save them, or we are gone."
It would be interesting to see this story from the perspective of an Austin fan. I doubt they were maliciously hoping that Columbus got screwed and after finding all of this out they’re probably not thrilled with their ownership.
Being from Scotland, the idea of moving a team makes me sick to my stomach. Our clubs have been in the same places they were formed in the 1870s/1880s. I was so impressed with the reaction of the Crew.
Well Clydebank Football Club got taken over & relocated to Airdrie, becoming the 2nd incarnation of Airdrieonians but it was over shadowed by Wimbledon F.C. being relocated to Milton Keynes, both took place at around the same time.
If he tried to pull the same BS a few years early it would 've pass, snuck right under the radar but the league has grown and supporters groups have grown and that BS won't be tolerated anymore
Chicago had said something at the time like "we love to hate the Crew, we'd love to continue to hate the Crew #SaveTheCrew" We love to hate our rival fan bases, but at the end of the day, it's still a love we share together
As a guy who supports all things Portland and sees Seattle as Portland’s biggest rival, knowing that the Sonics are gone is upsetting (even though I was 5-6 y/o when the move took place). We’d be literally dunking on you guys if club owners weren’t swines. I hope that the Sounders stay in Seattle and never fold.
As an NFL Fan I hated it when a Fan Uproots itself for more money. I've seen this happen with the Browns, Rams, Chargers, and Raiders. Even growing up in Maryland I've known of the Irsay's lying to the public that they're not moving so the Hate still lingers in Baltimore. So when I heard about the Crew it was immediate that I supported it. When Atlanta hosted their first Playoff game against the Crew we Marched with the Crew Supporters until some assholes told them to leave. The Scars of the loss of the Thrashers were still there and we were not having it. One thing that pissed me off was when the Capo chanted Austin Texas pissing off many of us to the point we yelled at them being wrong for that. Thank you for this Video DannyT and Fuck Precort.
knowing about AFC Wimbledon's own issues about a team picking up and moving. it's both awesome and heart wrenching to know they supported the SavetheCrew movement
Doc Edwards is the REAL MVP. He was at the STC rally that first time, people have gone back and looked at photos. He's been with the team since 1996. I don't think it was ever a question that he wanted us to stay. The Haslam family might be the money but he's the HEART.
From my perspective, I remember seeing those Save The Crew signs on TV during college gameday when I was 10, and as soon as it went to commercial, I looked it up, and that same day I was hoping they'd stay in the MLS. So happy they got to stay in the league and win the cup though, that game against Seattle was a good one. Great video, Danny, kinda gave me a documentary vibe. Respect to all Crew fans from an American gooner, MLS fans are great people.
What an amazing story. At the time of Saving The Crew, I thought to myself if Borrusia Dortmund (Germany) should have been involved as they share the same colors and have the same working men (& women) backgrounds. Well, never too late to have a benefit game of them in the future. Well done Colombus. Greetz from Germany :o)
Lived in Columbus my whole life. The bathrooms, the ticketing issues, the enchanced security which included metal detectors, security wands, and very strict purse restrictions. All of it is true and made it very difficult to even get into games on time if you didnt line up 30 minutes early.
I was worried for a while that Precourt would end up moving the Crew. I'm glad it ended up the way it did. I think that result is best for all involved parties. MLS' resident Satan incarnate got his Austin team and the Crew stuck around.
Thank you so much for making this video. As a Crew supporter it was a weird nostalgia trip and you really did the movement justice. Legitimately brought a tear to my eye. As a side note, MLS was (and maybe still is) citing attendance based on what it is at kickoff and so at MAPFRE Stadium they were 100% stifling attendance by doing things like not maintaining facilities, making strenuous and time consuming entrance policies, and on MANY occasions, they would only have 1 or 2 of the entrances open so that people couldn’t get into the stadium in time for kick-off. It was extremely frustrating.
A huge win for Columbus. Can't wait for the Austin-Columbus rivalry this season!!! Also DannyTRadio please talk about the pause on Sacramento Republic's move to MLS
Awesome video! I became a season ticket holder the year before he announced he was going to try and steal the club from its home. It was incredible to see the out pouring of support from all the MLS supporter groups. #SaveTheCrew began to open the door to show the support the team had and could have with a committed ownership group and now the Haslams and Edwards families have completely blew that door open. So excited for the future and to see just how massive this club can be!
I live in Pittsburgh, so Columbus is the closest team to me so I've always been a Crew fan. Plus the black and yellow speaks to me for obvious reasons. Thank you for making this video it showed how much the team and sport means to people as well as all the negative things that are part of the American sport climate. I got into soccer when I was a kid so the mid-90s about when the MLS started and while I've watched MLS on and off for years I've always liked the crew. And I'm going to be honest here, #SaveTheCrew got me back into the MLS. The passion that Columbus showed made me remember why I love soccer and I was heartbroken that they were going to move because I had finally been able to afford to go to MAPRE for a home game and I wasn't going to actually see it. Movements like this are why sports are so important to people. They are a sense of community and identity that brings pride to a city when they win. It brings joy to my heart that the Crew was saved and they were able to win the Cup so quickly afterwards.
I too am a Crew supporter and we aren't massive, but we are, am I right. Just curious, do you support the Riverhounds? They've been around a long time and USL is a good level. Also black and yellow too. I'm in rural Kentucky, Columbus is closest to me too but there was no Louisville City when I became a Crew supporter. Now there is, I support both clubs. Black & Yellow, Purple & Black; awesome color schemes.
@@ejyounggun08 i don't get to as many Riverhounds games as I like. I was a ball boy one year for my birthday back before they moved into Highmark stadium. And any time I play a modded Football Manager game with USL teams and an American soccer pyramid I always play as the Riverhounds and try to win promotion to the top flight. I play it like a hometown boy bringing glory back home lol

True. Outside of some Rebranding choices which fans didn’t like, fans sill have a lot of say in what happens in mls clubs and that is just helping its popularity
I bought my first ever Crew season ticket plan 2 weeks before the relocation announcement was made. My ticket rep said they had all been blindsided by the news as well. Forever grateful that I still have a team. Go Crew!
You did a great job, Just any FYI for the TFC game they didn't hire Cops for traffic control like they normally do, and now we have an Austin "Reporter" and I use that term loosely, accused Crew Fans of destroying the Stadium to make Precourt look bad.
I still remember getting in line for that game almost an hour before start time and didn't actually make it through until 5 minutes before the game. Lines were very long, they closed a few gates, and for the first time ever they were physically patting people down and had to have separate lines for men and women so men security could pat down men and women do women. It was an absolute nightmare that I didn't realize at the time was all to make attendance numbers look horrible
This reminds me of the afc Wimbledon to MK dons story. Expect in that case no one bought Wimbledon. The fans had to reform the club and climb from the eight division to the 3rd.
Crew season ticket holder here, thank you for such an epic vid! I can confirm that the bathrooms throughout this were disgusting. Precourt completely divested from the stadium, dirty bathrooms, less food vendors, etc... The security for the 2017 and 2018 playoffs was as intensive as the TSA; full wandings and full pat-downs... A time consuming process that slowed entry for these games so that many fans missed kick-off...
I admit that I didn’t really care about the move UNTIL I saw Cincinnati get a team and then I was DEAD SET on supporting the #savethecrew movement just for the sake of the Hell is Real Derby. MLS tried to pull a fast one by replacing CCSC with FCC and now you have a great Ohio rivalry. That being said, I understand Precourt love affair with Austin. It’s a GREAT city and will be a fantastic addition to MLS. This is a great story because everyone won in the end.
This is an absolutely amazing video. Being from KC I've been past Mapfre a time or two. Over time I adopted the Crew as my second team, and I absolutely loved seeing the "screw Precourt" tweets after the win.
I remember seeing it be a trending topic on Twitter for almost the whole timeline. It captured my full attention that summer. Seneca said that “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” This quote applies to their presence at College Gameday. I remember seeing all the signs in the background and was more focused on them than the pregame itself. Being a Browns fan in a family that has had season tickets since their return to the league from Columbus whose mother was at that final game before they left, I feel had he succeeded, Precourt’s antics that led to it would have been EVEN WORSE than Modell and the Browns. For one, Art did not have a clause when he bought the Browns that let him move the team to Baltimore and only Baltimore, did he? My father could justify him to an extent since the stadium was trash and never truly got on the exact same page for a new stadium with Mayor Michael White whilst wishing he was more upfront and transparent with the city, but not Precourt. Leslie Pool is now a personal antihero to me; she was just doing what she did not for her gain, our gain, or anyone else’s. She just GRILLED him and I laughed HARD. Even though we won, I still will never forget and never forgive. Why should I?
As a Austin FC fan,I am really glad the Crew did not move to Austin because I have no idea and I got a Austin Fc jersey, but the away one,I LOOOOVE IT I love the three stripes on the right shoulder, and the green YETI sponsor is just an ICONIC jersey, but now taking about Colombus Crew SC,I think #SAVE THE CREW caught a lot of people's attention to buy the SAVE THE CREW jersey,Greetings from AUSTIN,TX
Please understand, any hate you get from a Columbus fan, is emotional reaction and misguided hate. We do not hate Austin fans (most of them at least), but we do have a burning fiery hate for your team owner that will never die lol
Wish more people would tell this story! A full 2 hour documentary could be made with no problem. I have family in Austin by the new stadium and man I still feel sick every time I drive by it.
Excellent video as usual Danny. This was such a fascinating story to live through from afar, getting to see your re-telling of it was really great. Also, 1 dislike!? Anthony Precourt watching this?
The Haslam's said that being the Browns owners and learning the history of the browns and what they ment to the city was a part of the decision, to save the crew.
What was really epic about Leslie Pool was that BEFORE she voted, she CAME to Columbus and sat IN THE NORDECKE for a match to see what we were all about. She got so much love from all of us, we knew how she felt. That is part of the reason that she said what she said about him failing us. She is a goddamned hero. Austin should be THANKFUL she is looking out for their best interests.
Incredibly underrated channel with quality content. You definitely deserve more attention among soccer fans not just in America, but the world. Keep up the good work :)
Awesome video covering this beautiful underdog story of how a supporter-base full of dedicated and sincere soccer fans fighting tooth-and-nail to keep their beloved club against a total piece-of-trash named Precourt with the intentions of relocating it to another city and they finally succeeded in their mission when new ownership came in take over the organization, really living up to the movement's name for all that implies and in returning the favor: They Fought & Won A New Championship Trophy in form of the MLS Cup! Now that's beautiful and why I refer to this as the Save The Crew Story-Arc. :)
I was at the rally at City Hall. It was purely throwing caution into the wind. I don't think many of us that day actually thought it was going to change the result. When's the last time a pressure campaign stopped the relocation of ANY American sports franchise? (Cleveland Browns, Oakland As, Houston Oilers, and on, and on, and on...) But d*mmit, we weren't going to go down without making a whole hell of a lot of noise. The feeling at that rally was one of family, and community, and camaraderie. In my estimation, those qualities are exactly what gave us the fuel, and moral high road, and ultimately led to our eventual success. It took a whole helluvalot of work - basically, a corps of volunteers ostensibly taking on a second job on a pro-bono basis, and the City's support at our backs. But it eventually broke in our favor. I'm not sure I've ever been prouder of anything in my life.
As a Cincinnati fan I never wanted Columbus or any city to lose their club. Besides, now we have a short 2 hour drive up I 71 for an away day and now we both have amazing stadiums to play in.
@@eboethrasher False. It literally says on the MLS website he changed the logo. There was an intent from the old ownership group but the project was finished by Precourt.
I was never a soccer fan... until precourt and the undermining happened. When the Browns and modell took off to Baltimore and the city of Pittsburgh threw up road blocks for Lemieux and Burkle, our respective cities wasted no time to voice our displeasure. Fantastic job. Keep politicians and politics in general away from our leagues. That goes for Spanos too.
this is why I already hate Austin FC, solely because of Precourt...and they haven't even played a game yet. Tbh, I want to see them lose every game and get spanked by the Crew. Also, on the badge with the building, arch, and 96- the building is downtown, the arch is from German Village, I believe, and the 96 is self-explanatory
One thing you are missing from the Town Hall meeting, throughout thexmeeting Anthony and his legal team where getting more and more upset as it went because the City Council kept screwing them over in terms of the contract agreement.
That is some shit that the Pirates do at PNC Park. Some guy got kicked out because his shirt said "Thanks for Nutting, Bob" in regards to the owner Bob Nutting not investing in the team. They literally kicked a guy out because of a shirt that he made. But jokes on them because he made the news and started selling the shirts
I’ve been watching about this on Copa 90 in England an it said about the attendance for that match against NYC that the attendance is only counted at kick off, So if you slow people getting in 🤔 lower numbers where as over here the attendance is not counted till halftime also that match probably would have been delayed 15/20 to allow more fans to get into the ground (don’t know if you do that over there)
After the Crew were sold to Jimmy Haslam, Anthony Precourt got an MLS Expansion Club as a compromise. That club became Austin FC, which began play in 2021

My father could justify him to an extent since the stadium was trash and never truly got on the exact same page for a new stadium with Mayor Michael White whilst wishing he was more upfront and transparent with the city, but not
Precourt.
City supporters have a lot to learn from the Crew #CFGOUT #LeeOUT #SaveTheCity
Wish more people would tell this story! A full 2 hour documentary could be made with no problem. I have family in Austin by the new stadium and man I still feel sick every time I drive by it.
The Crew are one of the original teams, and one of the best, and I am a Galaxy fan. They don't need to be moved anywhere. #SaveTheCrew
That one dislike is the owner who didn't care for the club
Nice to see some of my footage in there. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery :)
Anyone here after "The Rebrand"?!
BREAKING NEWS: THE CREW ARE BACK BABY!!!!!
@@Suarez05 but it’s just a nickname

Excellent video as usual Danny. This was such a fascinating story to live through from afar, getting to see your re-telling of it was really great.
Also, 1 dislike!? Anthony Precourt watching this?
Having lived every moment of this, I would say you did an excellent job capturing the story!
Great video Danny!! Just great!
The Haslam's said that being the Browns owners and learning the history of the browns and what they ment to the city was a part of the decision, to save the crew.
Love the channel, hopefully we get to see a usl championship video soon
Great job on telling the story of the Crew! One of the best videos you've made so far. Love your videos.
Great Channel Keep Up The Content.
Great video from one of my favorite UA-camrs. Keep up the good MLS work!
Its always good to see another DannyTRadio video, just what I needed to lift my spirits
Awesome video, love your presentation style and jokes.
This is your best Danny. Great stuff. From a fairly new fan of MLS, this is juicy stuff... well done.
A new video? Bless this day!
long life to the crew man, this is an amazing story
Now the year is 2023 and since he tried to move the team the Crew have won 2 MLS cups, suck it Precourt.
FUCK YEAH!
This is a great mini-doc
the Respect your Roots Tifo is kind of sad when you see the two clubs no longer with us are marked on Headstones.
As a Cincinnati fan I never wanted Columbus or any city to lose their club. Besides, now we have a short 2 hour drive up I 71 for an away day and now we both have amazing stadiums to play in.
Precourt planned to move the club the day he bought it. Just look at the similarities between the Austin FC and Crew crests.
The Crew rebrand was started under the Hunt family, including the crest redesign.
18:27 Broccoli FC
I wish impact fans would do the same
Great video. Definitely going to favorite this for linking whenever someone tries to say MLS doesn't have a fan culture.
8:08 One of few things I adore about Mike DeWine...
I gotta hear your take on the Sacramento situation
Excellent video!
this is why I already hate Austin FC, solely because of Precourt...and they haven't even played a game yet. Tbh, I want to see them lose every game and get spanked by the Crew.
Also, on the badge with the building, arch, and 96- the building is downtown, the arch is from German Village, I believe, and the 96 is self-explanatory
the short north has arches.
DC United also did a #SavetheUnited movement when the lease on RFK was expiring, and at the time we had no plans for a stadium in downtown DC.
That council member, Leslie Pool is a bad ass for that.
One thing you are missing from the Town Hall meeting, throughout thexmeeting Anthony and his legal team where getting more and more upset as it went because the City Council kept screwing them over in terms of the contract agreement.
Still is disbelief that this story played out the way it did. Best video on your channel!
Nothing better than a new video
big respect to that councillor.
Columbus, Ohio thanks you for your service 🫡🙏
Really shows how supporters groups using social media can get the powers that be to listen and give concessions sometimes.
Regarding the game v NYCFC. They would not allow any signs with the Save the crew or statements about ownership.
Did not know that, but it doesn’t surprise me. Thank you the detail and thank you for watching!
I was at the nycfc match. It was perhaps one of my favorite matches I've been to.
Ah shit, here we go again
#SaveTheCrew
It's so good to see something good happen in the end of the story, usually in big leagues they get their way regardless of fans opinion
Epic video!!! Chills at the end, go crew!
Good work on the documentaries
I’ve been watching about this on Copa 90 in England an it said about the attendance for that match against NYC that the attendance is only counted at kick off, So if you slow people getting in 🤔 lower numbers where as over here the attendance is not counted till halftime also that match probably would have been delayed 15/20 to allow more fans to get into the ground (don’t know if you do that over there)
18:31 - I believe this still was from the 2015 MLS Cup Final after Columbus lost to Portland.
After the Crew were sold to Jimmy Haslam, Anthony Precourt got an MLS Expansion Club as a compromise. That club became Austin FC, which began play in 2021
This story hits different after the Columbus rebrand...
Thankfully that was resolved…. We’re back to being the Columbus Crew…. Even though it’s a really crappy logo.
Seems like both sets of fans won in the end. Austin got their team and the Crew kept theirs.
