Being an AVL’ian myself you really appreciate that this Irish Troubadour has chosen our city as his American home.

And it is with awe and gratitude that I can hear this glorious music because of one woman who saved a life over a hundred years ago.

I was in the right place at the right time and got to do a Christmas concert in Austin with John back in 2007. He was kind enough to give me a copy of his album "Wayward Son". Been a huge fan ever since. I hope he manages through 2020 well enough and can hit the road in 2021 for some shows.

'Cold, rainy, windy night' is phenomenal. As they all are, to be honest.

Can't believe anyone could give this a thumbs down! This is nothing short of amazing. One of my favourite guitarists and bouzouki players of all time. Had the good fortune seeing him play with Eileen Ivers in what was the Lobby Bar in Cork City back in the '90s.

Was very fortunate to have met John several years ago. Near Fredericksburg VA in fact. We spoke at intermission and I mentioned how great his "Clear the Way" song was and told him a little about the battle around the city. He was gracious enough to finish the show with that song. Very impressive musician and song writer.

Being so natural and interesting while making music without any audience feedback... Wow! You need hard work, talent, concentration and constant interest in what you do. Not one little piece is left unattended! A real music lover. Thank you!

    Beautiful!
I'm curious about that little 8-string guitar. I've never seen that type before. Is there a name for it? Who makes it? What's the tuning?
BTW, Wikipedia has an "8-string guitar" article, but that's a different thing.

Hi Caelia, it's a guitar-bodied Irish bouzouki, sometimes called gizouki or bouzar.

He calls it a "Bizarre" (Bouzar?) lol, and it's definitely a custom job: A bouzouki made from a guitar body. I think he says in the vid who made it. Not sure what his tuning is, but I think standard zouk tuning is GDAD (of course, it's actually GGDDAADD since it's double-coursed), or perhaps GDAE, but I'm not sure.

This man is an almighty guitarist, but should not sing,,, it just don’t do it for me,,, there’s a lot of top trad band out there doing the very same,,, putting guys on songs,,, and there awfull. Nil feeling ,, and that’s the main ingredient when singing any song, specially Irish folk songs, passion and feel a must, or leave them alone 👍
