You may not count it, but Jett Reno from Discovery, who basically became a co-main engineer, was actually performing the duties of ship's head medical officer when she was found at the site of a long wrecked starship keeping her crew alive with hybrid medical/engineering knowhow. And she's a pretty cool and snarky no-nonsense character.

You forgot McCoy's biggest achievement of putting Spock's brain back in at the end of the episode Spock's brain where it seems like every other sentence contains the words "Spock's brain". You know I once played the Spock's brain drinking game where you watch the episode Spock's brain and takes a drink every time someone says Spock's brain. I was floored by about 10 minutes playing the Spock's brain drinking game whilst watching the episode Spock's brain. It's like the whole script of Spock's brain was written just to get the words "Spock's brain" into the episode Spock's brain as many times as possible. Spock's brain must be the worst episode of Star Trek of all time, and that's saying something. Something like... Spock's brain.
@@ficialintelligence1869 His computer generated head is part of a machine (the ship’s computer), so it’s basically the same thing. Remove that information from the database and he’d forget it too.
Years ago I made a list of "You Know It's Going To Be A Bad Stardate When..." Entries like "...the food replicators are putting out nothing but cream of tribble soup" and "...a transporter malfunction causes you to appear at a Federation conference in a black strapless evening dress". One I was especially proud of was "...you're stuck with no exit in a holodeck program called 'a day at the DMV with Julian Bashir'".
When season 2 first aired, I hated Pulaksi. Now re-watching season 2 all these years later, Pulaski had a ton of potential. I actually like the fact that she was rougher around the edges and less idealistic than the other characters (minus Worf). Also, there was a bit of an outsider feel to her. Diana Muldaur was allegedly not well-treated by some of the TNG cast, and that awkward chemistry comes across on screen at times (particularly with Patrick Stewart) and it worked really well. I'm probably in the minority here, but I also liked her dynamic with Data because by the end of the season you can see she's changed her opinion on him, and I think that friendship had the potential to be kind of the McCoy/Spock or Odo/Quark of TNG.
The way she treated Data sometimes bothered me, but I did like her overall. Elementary, Dear Data is one of my favorite episodes, and probably one of my favorites involving her during her time on the show
@@marcelo3939 There is a scene towards the end of the season in "Peak Performance" that is my favorite Pulaski moment, when she calls Data out for "sulking" and tells him that his excuses might work on Troi but not her. I just tough it was a very telling moment of how she's changed her views on him and how that friendship would have developed into a almost maternal one I think.
The chief medical officer on the Enterprise between Phil Boyce & Leonard McCoy was Mark Piper in Where No Man Has Gone Before. How is he not on the list, you said all not just the top. You also didn't specify chief, so you can have other doctors like M'Benga from A Little Private War & That Which Survives
I read somewhere , the producers of TOS had plans for a spinoff that never happened. The series would have focus on Dr. M'Benga on a Federation medical ship name USS Hope. I thought he deserved a honorable mention being the only doctor who ever slapped Spock back to reality. 🤣
The Doctor is #1,easily. Not just for having personality, but also for having vast medical knowledge, since he is basically a computer. #2 would be Bashir
No way Pulaski should rank this high. She was brought on to create conflict in a show where all the conflict was external. Otherwise, the ranking more or less tracks for me.
Exactly why she was great. I have nothing against Beverley, but she is quite boring, tbh. Pulaski's interaction with Picard, Data and practically everyone is simply great and was ahead of its time. You wouldn't create a cast with so little friction nowadays, you'd always include someone like Pulaski.
Dr. Bashir it is my favorite. Despite being genetically modified, he was so human. His despair at failing to cure a dominion plague was so grounding. And he was a … spy!
Bones was definitely the tops. He was warm, human, old fashioned, yet practical. He had the most depth and his discussions with Spock had the most chemistry.
There’s a soft spot in my heart for Phlox personally. He’s just such a kindhearted and genuine guy. Having said that, I agree Bones definitely takes top spot, but I think The Doctor should be higher. Nevertheless, thanks for the video! Stay well out there everybody, and God bless you friends. :)
I'm delighted that you made a point of editing in an appreciation of Dr. T'ana. But what about the other apostrophe, Dr. M'Benga (Booker Bradshaw)? He was brought in for two episodes of TOS as a human who was a specialist in Vulcan medicine, a nice touch. And Dr. Piper (Paul Fix), the other pre-McCoy CMO of NCC-1701 in "Where No Man Has Gone Before," ought to have had at least a mention.
Dr. Crusher was my model when I was growing up in the ‘80s. She’s a very proficient medical professional on the Federation’s flagship. I wanted to be a navy doctor. Unfortunately, my grades weren’t good enough for med school.
I love Bones McCoy! He was priceless. He hated the transporter beam because it scrambled his atoms he was worried the would forget how to reassemble his body. His ongoing conflict with Spock was and still is one of the funniest parts of the original Stas Trek. He also kept Kirk from being or at least looking like an arrogant, overbearing toad. He definitely was the best doctor in the Star Trek series. I also loved when Spock would take Bones to task about what Spock called Bones' "beads and rattles", when Bones was going to treat him for something. Their ongoing relationships and funny dialog between the three of them became very popular part of the series.
You left 2 doctors off the list Mark Piper and Jabilo M'Benga I'll let Dr. M'Benga slide as he wasn't chief medical officer, but Piper was CMO on the Enterprise before McCoy. M'Benga was on Enterprise also but he specialized in helping Vulcans. Lol one more doctor Dr. Selar Enterprise-D..... and there are lots more in the novels
@@simoxeh Bones is "an old country doctor" No one else can make that claim. Plus the first always has an edge, since w/o Bones, there would be no doctor character. Besides, what other doctor has a meme and an immortal line? "He's dead, Jim"

1st and 2nd ex aequo: Phlox and The Doctor, 3-10: I don't care ;-) My favorite moment of The Doctor is on the Enterprise E in "First Contact" when Beverly tells him to hold back the Borg and he replies: "I'm a doctor, not a door stop!"
What about the Mark 2 was it? That crazy EMH kid from the alpha quadrant in voyager. He might have just been in one episode, but that was a wild ride. 😳
Honestly I love the Star Trek doctor characters. The Doctor definitely should be higher, so should Flox who was a shining gem on Enterprise. I am happy to see Dr. Pulaski getting some respect. She had such a presence and I would have loved to see her character sketched out more. Dr. Crusher and Bones were great characters and I loved them but on my list they would be down a bit. Bashir is also a great character who mellowed always grumpy O’Brien and made Garak shine. This list really is like a who’s who of great characters.
@@jackdubz4247 And he wasn't just some background character either. He had a prominent role in his episodes. Was more than capable, and even used his authority to question Spock on an equal footing.
If he got the job done, his catch phrase wouldn't be "He's dead," and his greatest medical accomplishment that can be attributed to him being what is essentially putting a bandaid on a rock creature. I believe he determined that he could cure a rainy day after that spackle job.
I loved the Rios EMHs and no I do not consider them weird simply because up until Picard and company came on board, he was literally the only person that ran his entire ship singlehandedly. He reprogrammed the EMHs pretty much to keep him company and give him an outlet in order to keep him from losing his sanity. So no, it is not weird but relatable and enduring and overall awesome.
The Doctor is my favourite. Haven't finished Deep Space Nine yet so haven't seen a lot of Bashir, but The Doctor is definitely my favourite Medical Officer Star Trek has ever had
The Doctor at 4? Way too low. His character arc was the most interesting aspect of Voyager. Far more interesting than Crusher, who is is unwatchable. The uncertainty around his status as a sentient individual is the best part. McCoy is OK, but not great until the movies.
I'm not a big Crusher fan and I liked that Pulaski shaked things up a bit, although the attitude toward Data could've been toned down. I'd also put Bashir ahead of the Doctor if only for his first meeting with Data ("You have real hair! Does it grow?"). So my ranking would be: Bones, Pulaski, Bashir, the Doctor and then Crusher. The rest of them I couldn't care less about.
You skipped over Doctor Piper who was the original doctor under Kirk. Doctor M'Benga who was the acting CMO in McCoy's absence. Lastly Doctor Chapel who earned her full medical degree between TOS and TMP, basically taking Doctor M'Benga's spot as the number two doctor onboard the Enterprise at least during The Motion Picture.
You'll NEVER beat Bones McCoy (original series, of course - f*ck the Kelvin version).... McCoy: "Well, this is a new ship, but she's got the right name. Now, you remember that, you hear!" Data: "I will, sir." McCoy: "You treat her like a lady, and she'll always bring you home."
Each Doctor was brilliant but there are two that have always been favorites: Phlox and The Doctor. Phlox because he is unapologetically comfortable in his own skill and paired his brilliant Medical mind with great empathy for everyone he treated. Just as was his ability to remind everyone that keeping an open mind was prudent and often beneficial. Robert Picardo's portrayal of Voyager's EMH was the first time I ever gave deep consideration to Holographic Artificial Intelligence gaining actual Sentience. It remains a fascinating question, but ultimately I came to believe that The Doctor was indeed Sentient. He was arguably far more than the sum of his programming. Even when his actual programming had to be reset, or he lost a lot of stored data, he was still Voyager's Doctor when the dust settled. His intellectual curiosity was the other reason, because it humanized him to the point it was easy to forget he was a hologram.
The Doctor should have been higher. From a medical point of view, he literally has databanks worth of knowledge to draw from. His character is one of the most interesting in the entire franchise. With an arc that touches on everything. He also had some fantastic episodes with Seven, teaching her to be human again. Pulanski at 3? What a disaster.

Yes why was Dr M'Benga forgotten? He knew so much about vulcans as he had worked with the team on Vulcan. I live the novels that were about the team too like the Vulcan Academy Murders. 💙🖖
Trekkie please. Not trekker.
The Doctor is my favorite.
Best singing voice.
Most ‘I’m a doctor, not a ......’
JohnnyCab has come so far
Not many of my Geek circle knew that Bob Picardo voiced Johnny Cab in Total Recall! It's refreshing to know there are folks out there who get/recognize references! 😁
@@tranzphaziktorpedo Total Recall is a perinnial favorite on premium cable which I still have and I usually watch it once again at least once when it comes around. Of course he’s not only the voice he IS JohnnyCab - they built it to be him which is funny as hell. It’s always reassuring to know you that you are not a ‘lone geek’🖖☮️
Holy shit i was RIGHT?? I always thought I was hoping it was Picardo doing Johnny Cab because Johhny to me always looked like him.
And of all the times I have seen Total Recall, I never noticed if Picardo's name was on screen during credits.
Awesome!
@@killwalker well, it’s probably in the credits, it’s in IMBD and any list of movies or TV shows he’s been in.
He’s the only cast member that was ‘beaten up by Arnie’. You have a good eye and ear👍🏻

What i'm left wondering is... why did you sit on this for months? what else are you keeping from us!?!?!
It was probably one of those "emergency" episodes they filmed in advance to fill an upload slot in a content-dead week. Like when you freeze excess ground beef in sandwich bags for a quick meal later on.

They are keeping the kidney regrowing pill from us.
They are holding the top 10 episodes of Voyager
You may not count it, but Jett Reno from Discovery, who basically became a co-main engineer, was actually performing the duties of ship's head medical officer when she was found at the site of a long wrecked starship keeping her crew alive with hybrid medical/engineering knowhow.
And she's a pretty cool and snarky no-nonsense character.
This has to be one of my most favorite channels I am subbed too. I agree with almost every one of these lists. Thanks for the video
That's my favorite scene from "Voyage Home" too. I even cut it out and made a MEME of it. Just image when we can resolve a kidney problem with a pill. I know its just a show but I smile whenever I think of it. I'm smiling now when you brought it up. :)
The Doctor is the greatest doctor ever and ome of my favorite characters ever!!
Brain and brain! What is brain?!?
The Doctor (Voyager) did that with Chakotay, without having to have a machine upload the information into his head (which McCoy promptly forgot).
@@ficialintelligence1869 His computer generated head is part of a machine (the ship’s computer), so it’s basically the same thing. Remove that information from the database and he’d forget it too.
@@IJustWantToUseMyName You could say the same thing about anyone's brain: remove it from the body, and they'd die without artificial life support.
You forgot that the internet has evolved Dr. Beverly Crusher into the iconic meme, 'Blazing Bev'.
What!? The doctor is one of the best star trek characters ever.
11:09 in an interview before his passing, he commented jokingly he could imagine that line being on his tombstone
“I’M dead Jim…”
Pulaski is so unfairly hated. I went back and watched S2 of TNG, she was a fine doctor. Personable and funny, like a good elementary school teacher.
While I do not hate her i just never warmed up to her, dunno she seemed to "teacher"-like.... and i don't like teachers xD
@@marcelo3939 I agree. I found Crusher to be rather petulant and elitist. Pulaski was a far more complex and thoughtful character.
That should happen NOW.
The Doctor is #1,easily. Not just for having personality, but also for having vast medical knowledge, since he is basically a computer. #2 would be Bashir
Bashir and Phlox deserved better! But this was so fun lol
No way Pulaski should rank this high. She was brought on to create conflict in a show where all the conflict was external. Otherwise, the ranking more or less tracks for me.
She was Droidist. Lol.
Lol
Exactly why she was great. I have nothing against Beverley, but she is quite boring, tbh. Pulaski's interaction with Picard, Data and practically everyone is simply great and was ahead of its time. You wouldn't create a cast with so little friction nowadays, you'd always include someone like Pulaski.
@@countluke2334 Pulaski is underated IMO. She had far more potential then Crusher if given a few seasons and a chance for the cast to warm to her.
@@minicle426 exactly
My sentimental favorite is Dr Leonard Mccoy 🖖🖖
The Doctor and Julian Bashir are my favorite doctors.
Phlox is higher on my list, he had more style than anyone. He is #2 behind "I'm Doctor not a list maker"
Everybody knows that Polasky's chicken soup is a suppository!
piping hot!
Dr. Bashir it is my favorite. Despite being genetically modified, he was so human. His despair at failing to cure a dominion plague was so grounding. And he was a … spy!
Forgot Julian Bashir relationship with Garak & how that changed him as well. What about Doctor M'Benga in the Original Series?
(And I don't mind at all that you excluded the EMH Mark II; I have tried to forget about him.)
Phlox.... other than bones hands down my favorite.
What about Dr. Piper? He was the Chief Medical Officer of the USS Enterprise in the episode "Where no Man has Gone Before".
What about Dr. Elizabeth Dehner (Sally Kellerman)
She did have a nice set of ESPs
Sleep Deprived Phlox is outstanding, hilarious, and the BEST Trek Doctor Comedy moment EVER.
Fight Me. Lol.
Dr. Crusher was my model when I was growing up in the ‘80s. She’s a very proficient medical professional on the Federation’s flagship. I wanted to be a navy doctor. Unfortunately, my grades weren’t good enough for med school.
I found Phlox to be the most interesting character among the doctors. Truly alien and yet sometimes truly human too.
"He's dead, Jim" is one of those "misquotes" up there with "Beam me up, Scotty".
At least Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy from the prime universe was ranked one. Anything less would have been a travesty of a ranking system imo.
And that's what I get for prescrolling before the end..😂😂😂😂
J/K...he should be number 1
Absolutely.
That's nostalgia speaking. Bones is one dimensional at best and honestly not at all an interesting character. Maybe number 5 tops.
@@simoxeh Simple solution. Make your own list then if you disagree.
@@simoxeh Bones is "an old country doctor" No one else can make that claim. Plus the first always has an edge, since w/o Bones, there would be no doctor character.
Besides, what other doctor has a meme and an immortal line?
"He's dead, Jim"
I don't know if I would rank them but Dr. Selar from NextGen and Dr. M'Benga from the original series deserves an honorable mention.
The original McCoy is my favorite, then the new McCoy as I find him funny too. Then Dr Crusher and Dr Bashir. And dont forget Dr M'Benga who had studied on Vulcan.
Nice Soul II Soul! Dr. T'Ana is pretty badass too fell on the floor laughing at her "science experiment"
Keep up the good work guys, love these vids!
When i heard Leonard McCoy in 8th place, my heart stops, no way i think... Kelvin timeline, ok.
My top 5:
1. EMH
2. Julian Bashir
3. McCoy
4. Phlox
5. Crusher
I'd switch Phlox and Crusher, but besides that, same ranking as me.
3. Dr. Leonard McCoy
1st and 2nd ex aequo: Phlox and The Doctor, 3-10: I don't care ;-)
My favorite moment of The Doctor is on the Enterprise E in "First Contact" when Beverly tells him to hold back the Borg and he replies: "I'm a doctor, not a door stop!"
Two TOS doctors who were overlooked were Dr. Piper from the 2nd Pilot and Dr. M'Benga in "A Private Litter War" and "That Which Survives."
Boyce was in the first pilot, Mark Piper was between Boyce & McCoy
@@joenesvick7043 Senility
What about the Mark 2 was it? That crazy EMH kid from the alpha quadrant in voyager. He might have just been in one episode, but that was a wild ride. 😳
Was Marcus Bronzy fired or did he quit? Since he didn't do the t'ana interrupt himself?
I'm one of the few people who actually liked Pulaski (even more than Beverly Crusher, in fact!). But even I wouldn't put her above Voyager's Doctor.
My thoughts exactly. The Doctor and Beverley should switch places, then it works.
The voyager EMH is my favorite of all Time
What about the EMH2 played by Andy Dick?
Robert Picardo's Doctor is the best in the series, bar none!
If Dr. Boyce gets in on one episode then I reckon honorable mentions should go to Dr M'benga, Dr Benayoun and EMH mark II. They were all awesome.
Dr. Piper was also left out. He was in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" the second original series pilot.
Props for the Dr M'Benga shout out. I brought him up in a comment on Disqus once and everyone was like, "Whooooo?"
@@jackdubz4247 And he wasn't just some background character either. He had a prominent role in his episodes. Was more than capable, and even used his authority to question Spock on an equal footing.
I'm waiting for the day we see a Gorn Medical Officer in Starfleet.
I'll be right there. 30 minutes later.
Amputation, followed by lunch
He's definitely not kissing my boo-boo better
Love your list! And, yes: Leonard McCoy by Kelly is absolutely 1!!
I think The Doctor from VOY was the best.He has so much character development.I would put Pulkaski at the bottom.
Pulaski is ranked higher than both Bashir and the freaking Doctor from Voyager? Ridiculous.
Voyager's doctor should be first and foremost. Or, at least, above Pulaski.
Great list, great channel! Keep it up!!
My personal favorite is Bones
He will do what he has to do to get the job done and he’ll do it with a sarcastic remark
If he got the job done, his catch phrase wouldn't be "He's dead," and his greatest medical accomplishment that can be attributed to him being what is essentially putting a bandaid on a rock creature. I believe he determined that he could cure a rainy day after that spackle job.
@@lovehawks2814
But he still had determination and grit and he saved the Enterprise’s butts quite a few times
I love the doctor! and I relate so much to him!
Crusher had sex with a ghost.
Dr McCoy lived to be AT LEAST 137 years unless Trek Culture knows something we don't. :)
I don't see no points on your ears, boy! Tell me how you remembered that so exactly
It's ironic that McCoy lived longest in the fictional timeline, but DeForest Kelly was the first to go in real life...
Bones. No contest.
I would put the Emh doctor and Bashir on the top. Bashir and his buddy O'Brien were a great duo and the emh doctor changed alot through the show
You'll NEVER beat Bones McCoy (original series, of course - f*ck the Kelvin version)....
McCoy: "Well, this is a new ship, but she's got the right name. Now, you remember that, you hear!"
Data: "I will, sir."
McCoy: "You treat her like a lady, and she'll always bring you home."
But the Kelvin version was ALSO Judge Dredd!
And then Deanna Troi, the most useless character ever, is given the keys and she dumps it into a planet for good. Great job.
@@DonaldWWitt I believed him far more as Judge Dredd than I ever accepted him as Dr McCoy....
Chief Engineers ranked? (Sorry, Scotty, but O'Brien is number one in my book.)
In an episode of The Orville, the actor playing Phlox ends up assaulting the actor playing EMH. I guess they’re trying to figure out who’s the best doctor
You should make a video about all the "he's dead" moments, when the doctors just looks at the camera like "what you want me to do about?"
I would have put the emh in front of crusher. She was good but the emh had way more medical knowledge and character growth
Redhead but also Mother of Wesley...tough to place indeed.
My favorite is Robert Picardo as Johnny Cab in Total Recall, lol. But seriously he's amazing in Voyager
Karl urban is legit a great McCoy, actually he’s a legit amazing dredd, but I guess that’s for another video 😂
I just wish we could get more of him in the MCU as Skurge the Executioner, he was awesome in Ragnarok
Wouldn't have ranked Pulaski that high just based on how she treated Data.
Bashir will always be my favorite, with Phlox and Bones tying for second place
Very good comments on all of them. Definitely agree that Karl Urban was the highlight of the Kelvin movies.
