The only good thing about having to wake up on Friday mornings is seeing a notification that you put up a new video. Homelites get a bad rap because people just don't have the knowledge on how to take care of 2 strokes. Me personally, I don't mind them. They are super affordable and as long as you do the basic maintenance they'll last. This video show that. Great job as always Don. Hope you and your family have a great weekend
Would’ve miss this all day long. Great job finding the root cause
Good job diagnosing the problem. You're a good mechanic.
Just one criticism. Not even really a criticism, more like a suggestion. You shouldn't run machines in your shop, particularly two strokes because of the oil in the exhaust, and particularly one like this that was blocked up. Insects, as well as vermin, can plug things up with EXCREMENT. It gets into the air, you breathe it and potentially get REALLY sick. Be careful. We want you around for awhile! 👍
Be well.
I’ve come across this same thing a few times 10:15 . Here in Texas you have to look if the machine has been setting in a tool shed for any length of time.
😂😂😂😂 Another Day At The Office ...4 The Master.Thank You Donyboy.U Rock.Richard.
Amazing! I have virtually no experience with 2 stroke engines except some outboards, and seeing that that insect dirt plug stopped it from running was fantastic to learn!
Perfect timing for a free blower; right in time for leaf-season here in Ontario. 😁👍🏼 Nice work. Thanx.
You always manage to teach us something - thank you Dony.
I had a homelite like this. It gave me starting problems around year three and got progressively worse until about year ten, where it wouldn't ever start. Replaced it with an Echo that's been reliable for nine years. After watching this video, maybe I'll take a crack at repairing the old homelite.
Tks Dony, another very informative video
with my leaf blower it was the fuel lines from tank to carb had burnt through. So repaced with better ones and no more problems
Had that happened to me while I was working in a small engine shop, it was on an older craftsman brush cutter, same thing, mud dauber had built its nest in the exhaust port preventing the engine from running.
We have 2 lakes near by and I get lots of repairs from them, it’s common to find a completely stopped up muffler, lake people I remove muffler first
Yep saw that episode. Amazing that something so small can cause a plane to crash.
Thanks Don, i was surprised you didn't try putting a little gas directly into the cylinder when you had the plug out, works for me many times.......ofcourse that is just when it is dried out, not with a plugged muffler.
I've never seen that before. But I have experienced the clogged pitot tube after parking a plane in the Caribbean for a few days without covers on it.
Very helpful, who could imagine such issue because of a tiny nest...?
It's along the same idea as having a plugged spark arrestor screen.
@blackenedmagic888 the reason why I like watching at that kind of video, you always learn something unexpected
I'ts the same motor witch homellite used on a small trimmer . Not so good products but if is a gift it's all right .
Another great class DonyBoy!
Wow, thats incredible Dony . I would have never even thought to look at that, great job !! 👏
Thanks Don! You always give out great information and your videos are a great help to many! Thanks for coming to work today!
Had the same problem on my outboard with the water outlet for the cooling, damn sand flies making a nest. Cheers
Great information. Thank you.
I have a older model and it has the same muffler and I exhaust it away from the intake runs so much better
That was fun Don. Watching someone else work on a 2 stroke. 🙂
valuable lesson on what to look for, thanks for posting, have a great weekend
I've got one of these that just won't die I've had it for 13 years it always starts it's a craftsman model I do always at te end of the summer before putting it and all my gas powered equipment away for the winter dump out the fuel and run the dry and they always start in the spring.
Another great video. Homelites are basically throw aways. Hate to use that term. Even when you get them running correctly they don't seem to after very long.
thanks man you really helps me with my problems
Great video!👍🏻
Diaphragms probably a little stiff from sitting . My ms170 does the same but after 5 minutes runs like a champ 👍great video
I fill tank with atf fluid after I empty it and pump it thru the carb
Just drain good, pump gas mix thru carb and it’s good to go until end of season
Can use 2cly oil also
Easy fix. I would never have looked in the exaust pipe 😂😂
Thanks Don nice find would not have thought about that tube on the muffler always learn something from your videos. 👍
I wasn't expecting that wow I'll have to keep an eye that THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO
Not many would think to check that, nice job Don!
I have this same blower that someone gave me. I ended up putting a new carb on it and then it worked. A little later discovered that it was back with the running problem it had. Then found that carb needed adjustment . It was one of those that has hidden adjustment screws and just needed to remove plastics cap to access the screw.
Great vid here
Whodda thunk it would be an insect mud nest in the muffler? Your experience proves effective in troubleshooting again. It's great to know of more things to check. Great video, Don. Thanks
My Honda weed trimmer had the same problem. Pulled it apart a few times before solving the clogged muffler prolem. Great tip Don. Ìt can be a real head ache finding the solution if you dont follow the problem solving proceedure.
another flawless diagnosis! Thanks for sharing.
Great information and very thorough 👍
Great find. Amazing the smallest of details can make the biggest differences
I thought of this airplane Insect thing too. I think they had to put some covers on the pietot tubes and forgot to take them off though. It could be another aircrash investigation too.
I ran across that problem on a troy built roto tiller. Mud dobbers will do a number on machines of all types if they set long.❤
I seen that episode of air crashes
Thanks for sharing this video it was really helpful 👍
Good lesson to learn. Thanks
Thanks Don, great to see a happy ending, I have had a similar experience with paper wasps, Cheers
Backed an old pickup into snow bank once and would barely run. I was checking everything and was scratching my head. A buddy walked into my garage and noticed the tailpipe plugged!! Dug it out and back to normal running!!
Wow got to give this a try today when I get home from work didn't think 🤔 to look there for blockage thanks for the info ❤
thanks so much for this video.appreciate you taking the time to show the breakdown and find the problem.learned a lot!
John
Thanks little buddy
The bees just know! 🐝
They’re tired of getting blown around. 😆
Good fix at least Homelite works👍
Thanks Dony fascinating
I bought a Homelite handheld blower similar to this 10 years ago for around $80 new. It has been quite the reliable blower for the money - the only catch being the half-adjustable (only idle) carburetor is difficult to get running correctly at high altitude where I live. I may be able to retrofit a fully adjustable carburetor to it later on to fix that problem though.
Nice! Thanks for sharing! 👍
Next time you inject fuel into the cylinder, put the fuel into it via the spark plug hole instead. It's much easier in my opinion.
It's called a dirt dauber..we have then in Georgia..bag your equipment after use..
i would've bet it would be the carb . nice catch d b .
Haha that was a good find! I didnt think that was going to be the issue
Nice video Dony, Where do you purchase the Aspen 2 cycle fuel from? I can't locate it in my area. Thanks
Do you ever adjust those rotary carbs? I don't believe I have seen a video on that procedure. It's not easy like on cube style; the low needle is vertical & deep inside the housing & the high is on the side, also deeply recessed..
Good job, Donyboy73
No better way to start the day , than the conquest of a 2 cycle tool!! 🤣🤣
Nice job.
That was crazy!
I saw that episode.
Who woulda thunkit? 😃 Good job.
Great video Don i knew you would fig it out !
grouse save Donny mate and yep a very rare machine now for sure and luckily you can split the cylinder block on those ones compared to the short block version which is from the newer units in the green colored type which is semi welded together sadly but yeah still worth fixing from my view and cheers from Australia 🐨🐑🦘🌴🇦🇺 or the land down under to your area in Canada 🇨🇦 🍁Ontario and i hope your enjoy your Autumn/Fall🍂🍃 Season over there etc.
How does the air get in for the blower portion? That looked like a solid cover to me?
Awesome 👍
I had a friend whose car had similar symptoms, it had a clogged catalytic converter.
Do you buy your fuel line in bulk and if you do where do you order it from.
Would it run without the muffler
How do you replace the throttle cable in this blower
Hit that like button 👍🌟👍
Who'd'a' thunk it. Those darn bugs get into everything around here, even the tell-tail on my outboard engine.
Seems like all petrol equipment is backed off to run lean. Is this to pass emissions.
i thought it was bad to high rev a 2 stroke in a cold start. or is it just chainsaws?
Wish someone would replace the accelerator cable. That is my problem.
👍👍👍
Dony does homelite even make blowers or chainsaws anymore?
Not sure.
Hi my One doesn't have a primer and it can't suck the fuel up can I gravity feed?
That looks like a dirt dobber nesr in the exhaust tube of the muffler that is like the exhaust screen being clogged up with to much carbon which is causing the compression to back lash
a mouse dedced to make a nest in my exaust muffler on my Honda... 😂
Mud Dauber Wasps & mice cause more mechanical damage to outdoor ICE (internal combustion engine) equipment do to operators not inspecting their engines prior to starting and running.
It's like COPD in humans, it has to be able to exhale as well as inhale.
Those dog gone mud wasps! Great fix!
I've been struggling with my lawn tractor. I'm going to check the muffler next! Here's that's happening. Your input would be appreciated. ua-cam.com/video/qUokyB2TIv4/v-deo.html
Can I ship a Honda GX -160. to you?
Dony, is it because theres no money in fixing them?
Yes I don't take them in as repairs because seldom is it an easy fix like this one and it's hard to charge my time for these!
I wouldn't try sucking with a Homelite, they have plastic fans that break the fins when anything hard gets picked up . Ask me how i know !!!
Mason Bee??
Mud daubers get into the strangest places.
Sell it some body would buy it
Mason bee
Mud dauber. Just like jamming a potato in a car exhaust pipe.
Looks very heavy n big for what it is :(
Donyboy73. Excelente video, sobre Todo que tienes paciencia!! Salu2
mud dauber
Just say no to two-stroke engines unless Dony's around. They're not worth the aggravation.
