In a world where our collective intelligence and sophistication seems to be diminishing it’s so great to hear someone yell BRING BACK SERIF FONTS! Classy!
Rarely as classy (excepting the classic Franklin Gothic or modern Vonca Modern, perhaps), but sans serif fonts are better for accessibility, ESL readers and are easier to read on the screen unless the font is specifically made for reading on-screen.
Serif fonts have fallen out of style because they don’t scale well to small sizes on screens, especially if they have too much contrast in stroke width. Sans Serif fonts display more cleanly on screens, making them easier on the eye. It’s interesting that in games, an extremely legible sans font tends to make the game feel cheap - like a mobile game. Even as someone who works with type as my job, I still feel that derision. I can see that a clean sans serif is the functionally correct choice, but I still prefer a nice, grimey font in my games.
I still prefer a sans serif font. My eyes getting worse with age is not helping my dyslexia. For example, his HP meter in the bottom left just says "SO/SO" to me and I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be 50/50
Serif fonts have fallen out of style because they don’t scale well to small sizes on screens, especially if they have too much contrast in stroke width That statement isn't true. There are plenty of serif examples designed for small size uses both on screen and print
It's fine until I get that captcha code and I can't tell whether the I is an uppercase i or lowercase L. Same problem with O and 0. Zero should always have a center strike-through. xD
@@legomojo It's getting harder and harder to tell every day. Sometime soon we'll need AI algorithms to tell us whether or not something is AI generated.
@@TJ-vo3rv It is easy to tell. When something looks shity it is AI - when it looks like it was shity at one point but now looks better but not quite good it was AI + people fixing whatever AI created - if it looks good it is just people without AI. Sans serif is easier to read on digital displays. It's a minor boost to accessibility. I do love a good serif typeface when the theme matches up, though.
@@hoseja To their credit, it works well as a kind of short and mysterious nightmare, but they have to disclose that shit on the store page if they want to be on Steam.
@@SenatorAri Oh, absolutely. I just meant, as far as instances of generative AI being used for art in games, this was one of the more appropriate applications I've seen. The janky uncanniness of AI video supported the vibe they were going for. Though again, regardless of discussions of quality or appropriateness of application, I'd prefer no AI to be used at all.
The game has a lot of potential, not the greatest of fans of the dungeon design, it is very basic but the combat itself it pretty fun and has some interesting mechanics with the ghosts and teleporting around. As for criticisms, the movement speed is a little too slow, the game could do with a sprint option or at least auto sprint after enemies are dead, and some other keybinds are weird, and as always the AI art is not the best but it does the job. I hope for more combos or maybe different types of weapons and some cool looking bosses.
 You're supposed to hit your forehead, not your mouth :P Also, that's good to hear, SC sometimes becomes unwatchable to me with his incompetency. Not that I could come even close to making videos as well as he does.
Just a heads up, you don’t have your patreon in your UA-cam channel’s about you thingy. Got curious and found it though, and I see it in this video’s description so I feel confident it’s really you. Haha
Gameplay looks interesting. Beginning story was a tad cliche, but not the worse I've seen. And I agree with the Seriff font. (PS: Could just be me, but seems that the discord link is non-functioning.)
Dude I fuckin feel that,I've never gotten comfortable with parrying and I've been through all the souls games and bloodborne. I didn't even carry a gun in bloodborne, used the damn torch and beat it through ng+3 haha
Man, when the video kicked off I was ready to go download the demo but then I saw it was one of those games where spend as much time dodging, parrying, and kiting as you do swinging your sword and then it was topped of with a ridiculous boss. I get it, it's a roguelite and you'll build power but I don't think that will get rid of those basic mechanics. Definitely a no for me right now. We'll see how development evolves.
Agreed on sans serif font! Or at the very least, that a dev shouldn't default to Arial or whatever, but should choose a font that suits the esthetic or mood of their game. It seems so basic to me...
Top-down rogue like games have lower GPU requirements than third person view rogue like games like Elden Rings. Same fun. Developers with lower budget should venture in this direction.
game looks solid but it needs more flesh - the rooms need more variety or at least different decorations.. - needs voice acting. The thing i liked about Hades was the voice acting. Speechless games feel empty for me. - hope they have more zones too (maybe some haunted forest / graveyard )
I've also felt it gives me a Hades x Souls vibes. The "battle rooms" are like Hades but also the way you're given a few choices of where to go depending on what kind of reward you want. Looks very good so far!
Alright, this is clearly Berserk inspired with Black Knight aka Skull Knight coming in like that.
is this an app........boring

This game needs a banger soudtrack worthy of the quality gore displayed.
Kinda like Tarnished Blood, which has a banger OST.
Some heavy metal orchistra?
Two things Splat doesn't do: stealth in a stealth game and parry in a souls game.
I mean outside of Bloodborne I've never really engaged with the parry mechanics in the other souls games either. It never seems to work reliably.

That start lol clearly draws inspiration from a certain story to say the least, love it!
*Cough* "Berserk" *cough*
its AI, the ai basically being fed with some fromsoft game n animations
Haha, noticed that too. Definitely wearing its influences on its sleave.
I'm sorry but that intro cinematic is absolutely silly XD
The finest AI has to offer!
Awful. AI is great for coding, not so much for still images... god awful at video creation
I was shocked Splatter liked it. I guess this is the sloppy way things are headed…

very much skull knight and the conflux of the causalities and all that

AI detected; Berserk story subjected, Splattercat, I am apoplectic.
I have found so many awesome games I never would have seen without this channel. Thanks for all you do!
The AI generated intro was a dealbreaker lol
A game like this, isometric souls/roguelike, with a something like diablo 1-2 ambience/story, would be perfection.

This opening just feels like when skull knight saves guts
12:40 I was screaming at the screen: "Heal up!" 🤣
Love your input and review style. You have helped me find many fun games.

I hope you can do another video about Potionomics, now that the Masterwork Edition has released. It has really good voice acting.

the theme gave me a brief planescape torment vibes, but then i realized there isn't much of a story and this looks to be another diablo-like looter.

lmao the serif rant.
Serif fonts are the civilized way to differentiate an l from an I, among other visual aberrations.
"Medieval Blicky" is an absolute bar. 🤣🤣🤣
This is a bit like an awesome vampire survivors game nice
That intro cinematic is clearly AI. Nope.
I'd like to see a rogue that can poison with daggers etc. More classes!
Had no idea Splat is a font enjoyer. 🙂🙂👍👍
You must try out Voices of the void. It's a signal simulator inspired game that is a lot of fun
2:00 100% skull knight from berserk
The Blood Monster boss's attack patterns and aoe ring, reminds me of the cyclops in Hades 2.
Medieval Blicky cracked me up

This is basically berserk meets lords of the fallen seems alright if a bit obvious
theres a general store for gold u can also sell items u build it for 12 or 15 woods

some turn rate for the enemies so they don't insta 180 would be pretty nice
tis feel like a solid game
This looks dope
Looks like the plot of Beserk.
That vid title is ALL the words XD
Obvious Berserk influences, but the skull knight hanging out in a hub world to chat with is making me laugh
This combat, isometric, fluidity, but PvP MP Extraction in the vein of Dark and Darker would be really neat.
I was just thinking this gave me Dark and Darker vibes!
I like the Art style a lot. :)
This game looks like it could be a banger, plus was it just me or did I see a Diablo style stash chest by the tent on the upper side of the camp?
this reminds me of examina graphic presentation wise.
excellent!
Death knight looks awfully similar to Skull Knight, same kind of timing too

Strong opinions on fonts.
Someone built the Sanctum mechanic from POE lol NICE
So, Hades Souls-like is the vibe i'm getting from the game.

Berserk reference?
That Berserk intro
Is this a berserk arpg ?
Am I crazy or is the black knight literally 1 for 1 skull knight from berserk
So, Grimdark Hades?
Totally agree on the ugly modern fonts, look how classy fonts looked in the PS1 PS2 era.
The first 2 minutes is literally just berserk lmao
