I need to clarify my comment. Prime 2013 is the unstoppable Seb. He could have had Senna, Schumacher or Hamilton as a Teammate and would beat them all. Today he is out of form, so the average Seb of course loses to the average Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton. After all they are better, but I think in that 2013 Red Bull, he was the greatest ever. This was my favourite version of Vettel. It was great supporting him and seeing him win his 4th world championship! The livery of the car was great too! Great analysis by Anthony!
I find it interesting how often he mentions "it's the best car on the grid" Fast forward to the Mercedes era, and it's all "my God look at Lewis, just a different level of driver, he is the maestro"
wanted to comment this myself. throughout 2010-2013 commentators always spoke of the car 1st and vettel 2nd. With hamilton, the dominance of the CAR is never mentioned
Truth is that the best driver will always end up in the best cars. If you go back to feeder series, both Hamilton and Vettel were ruthlessly smashing everyone, that's how they become what they are. The "it's just the car" remark is dumb.
Unfortunately for Vettel, I think that the Hybrid cars took away the connection between the driver and his car that Vettel needed to be dominant. He would have been a monster in the v10 days. I hope to see him get back to top forum and show everyone L.
Although I missed the sounds of v8-v10, there's no way I'm choosing them over today's v6. But yeah, Hamilton become much better in Turbo-Hybrid, so it elevates the connection between Mercedes and Hamilton. Each driver has different perspectives, I guess.
I'm by no means a expert but I just feel that the cars of today are driven more like a computer where as the non hybrid era cars were far more sensitive to drivers input. Just as an example hearing how the throttle being kept on in the corners helped with downforce. Some drivers definitely took to the hybrids and other unfortunately have struggled.
@@gold9994 I don’t like the V6 Hybrids at all, not only are they dull but they are expensive and increasing the weight of the cars year by year worsening the racing. I would be in favor of getting rid of the hybrid and increasing the rpm of the V6 as a middle ground but the hybrid has to go in its current form and they need to do something about that sound. If Porsche can make a V4 sound decent then F1 should be able to make a V6 sound decent.
@@martinhajda2132 The instant torque of the hybrid changes the driving dynamics a lot, also suspension technology and downforce has skyrocketed since then producing even more pitch sensitive cars and cars that require less finesse to drive as they simply have more grip from the more refined suspension. The non hybrid cars of the 2010’s has more downforce on throttle because of the blown diffuser using exhaust gases to help boost airflow in the diffuser, it was not a engine thing though the engine had to be tuned for it to work particularly in braking zones and downshifts. What does change is the response of a N/A engine vs a Turbo and the instant torque of the hybrid, probably why Sebastian has been spinning a lot in the hybrid era is he got used to the throttle of the Redbull and now the instant torque of the hybrid will just spin the tires at low speed with the same input.
True. The V8 era with frozen engines had some of the closest racing ever. The gap between the top teams and the midfield was smaller than now and it produced some great races. And great championships, no team could just run away with it like Mercedes have.

Keeping revs up to neutralise understeer is a very unusual thing to do in a RWD car. Sebastian appears to be happier with an understeery car in general looking at his later career. And I think now looking back in hindsight that is what was key for him to be able to win with utter dominance. Michael Schumacher even struggled to comprehend the level of understeer these cars could generate in that era.

There is a reason that Mark Webber , (the guy who beat Nico Rosberg when Rosberg in 2006 was the same age as when vettel was in 2009) never finished 2nd on the wdc standings 4 years in a row but Bottas has finished 2nd 2 years in a row with drivers like Verstappen and Ricciardo on grid
@Hot Rod Bro you stupid asf , how can the 2009 car be designed for vettel when that is his first time driving for the senior team
@Hot Rod And Merc build their car around Bottas? Such a stupid argument!
Rosberg was in his first season compared to Vettel having driven 1.5 half season before facing Webber.
And yes, there are some reasons - not being capable to adapt to the Pirellis, several awful starts, several reliability issues and KERS - failures and dumb errors.
The fact that he was still close to achieve 2nd in 2011 and would have easily achieved 2nd during 2013 if it wasn't for reliability issues despite awful performances says a lot about how amazing the cars were. If Max hadn't suffered so much bad luck during 2020, he would have achieved 2nd in the WCC but it wouldn't make the Mercedes any less dominant

As a Seb fan,I hope he can get the fifth title no matter which team he stay.
But it looks like a dream faded away when he get a normal race car again and again with his age growing..
It’s really heart breaking for me..😢😢
Honestly seb is not that old. He's only 2 years older than danny ric. The only thing old about him is his hairline.
@@randomperson7401 not very mature to judge him by his hairline, especially considering the fact that he has felt bullied by these types of comments and wouldn’t even take off his hat anymore. Vettel will always be a legend to me,..no matter how the last few seasons went...
he's like Ricciardo in tight street circuits..They do it better then anyone in the grid.
yea even in the V6 era he seems to find an extra level at Singapore in particular

He was so good in those cars, no doubt
This is what the driver and car connection looks like.

This Sebastian Vettel can beat Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton, all in their prime. He used to have that precision and consistency which defines the GOAT. Sadly he's lost that extra sauce. But I believe with the right car he can still fight for the Championship.
All the drivers you named have done more impressive things than him though.
@@negative-lift Sebastian had a lot of F1 all time records to his name. One of them for example is most wins in a season. 13. Records set by other drivers in the past that he beat
You’re no GOAT if you can only win driving one specific car.
Redbull was best dude...thats why he was winning...
Thats all...
Ofcourse vettel is one of the best driver...but can't handle the pressure, which a best racer should...
Just my personal opinion.
Peak seb beats peak anyone ever I don't care what anyone says
Back end of 2013 we'll never see the like again

This was my favourite version of Vettel. It was great supporting him and seeing him win his 4th world championship! The livery of the car was great too!
Great analysis by Anthony!
I find it interesting how often he mentions "it's the best car on the grid"
Fast forward to the Mercedes era, and it's all "my God look at Lewis, just a different level of driver, he is the maestro"
Imo he is just a different level of driver and a maestro
wanted to comment this myself. throughout 2010-2013 commentators always spoke of the car 1st and vettel 2nd.
I hate those hybrids, way too big and heavy.
What does change is the response of a N/A engine vs a Turbo and the instant torque of the hybrid, probably why Sebastian has been spinning a lot in the hybrid era is he got used to the throttle of the Redbull and now the instant torque of the hybrid will just spin the tires at low speed with the same input.
that era was so much better than the last few years
Facts
True. The V8 era with frozen engines had some of the closest racing ever. The gap between the top teams and the midfield was smaller than now and it produced some great races. And great championships, no team could just run away with it like Mercedes have.
That was a good era, but dont be fooled, he still can drive just as good, he just needs a championship valid car!
Or simply a team which doesn’t fail him with regular longer-than-teammate’s pitstops, DNFs when it matters and some valid strategies with proper communication?
He is getting beaten by Stroll now. No more excuses next race. If he keeps these types of performances up, he will be forced into retirement.
@@ChefofWar33 its a bit like Ricciardo & Norris. Is it team orders to hold back? Are the 2 team cars equivalent in power? we dont know or see what they know!

When Lewis said that he sometimes just falls asleep between q1 and q2 because his seat is so comfy that surprised me.
I remember those Singapore GPs very well when after a safety car period he was like a rocket 6 seconds ahead after just 2-3 laps. That was insane!
The only other driver ive seen have such a bond with his cars is hamilton. People really don’t know what a monster Sebastian was back in his prime with that blown diffuser. He mastered it much better than anyone else

@@mrdraw2087 you know he got compromised by long pitstops (which was a common thing for him in 2020) and (arguably) tyre strategies?
Even without that, he wouldn’t have got the podium if he were much slower
@@jacksonlam2877 The tire strategy was wrong indeed and without his second stop Hamilton at least wouldn't have won the race that easily (although he may have passed him when DRS was available). Thanks to his mega start Vettel had track position and Ferrari shouldn't have sacrificed it.

This video is so bittersweet. We all wish that this Vettel would come back, but coming from a Vettel fan myself, I honestly don't think that is gonna happen anytime soon. Personally 2018 Germany will remain as one of the biggest 'What if?'s in F1 in recent years.

If he had signed with Merc instead of Hamilton we'd have Vettel 10x WDC changemymind
Who's here after vettel's podium in baku😎
Keeping revs up to neutralise understeer is a very unusual thing to do in a RWD car. Sebastian appears to be happier with an understeery car in general looking at his later career. And I think now looking back in hindsight that is what was key for him to be able to win with utter dominance. Michael Schumacher even struggled to comprehend the level of understeer these cars could generate in that era.
I have been Vettels fan all along but time and time again this makes me appriciate a guy like Lewis who can just keep pushing and pushing after 6 stright wdc and his age.
This comments section is full of people who think he's done. Well let me tell u he isn't. He finished P5 in Monaco in an Aston Martin which is like a really slow and unstable car. So imagine if he was in a Red Bull or a Mercedes. Also, except 2020 when the team had a toxic relationship with Vettel, he's always performed quite alright. Nowhere near his RBR days' form but I still think he's got it and I still think he'll perform in the coming few years and get wins and/or podiums
I don’t think he forgot these days. In the right car he still can make this.
