I've done Army cadence and I've done Marine cadence. While the Marines are technically tighter, they tend to sound like they're programed. Army cadence is way more natural and way more organic. When a soldier sounds off, it sounds like he means it from his soul. Marines yell, soldiers sing.
Not saying either is right or wrong.
I wouldn't want to face either of them on the opposite side.

There's nothing like an Army Cadence!
It sticks with you, the rest of your life!... "Once a Soldier, always a Soldier"! ... Just plain and simple English. Better than the rest, stuff.
Our Army "Drill Sergeants" knew how to form "words", with their God given American mouth and could "communicate commands" just fine!
Our "Drill Sergeants" came across as killing machines that can "wage war" or talk, sing or "call Cadence" at the same time.
As an Army NCO? I've "marched" a few "formations" around, with a few "former marines" in them.
I had this one "lateral Soldier" (former marine) "Buck Sergeant", try and "teach me" how to "March Troops".
She was very respectful of my "duty position", all "spit and polish" about it. She was very "military".
When I asked her, "Why 99% of my formation, understood 100% of my commands, but she apparently did not"?...
She said, "That's not how the Marine Corps does it".
I was very respectful and "military" about it.
I told "Sergeant", (her), .. "You ain't in the Marine Corps. You're in the Army now".
She was always harping that she was a (former) "Sergeant of Marines".
I had Privates in my Platoon that could operate a PRC 17.
She didn't even know how to operate a SINCGARS or a PRC.
But she could "Call Cadence" without vowels!

HAH. Our drill sgts didn't teach us a damn thing. Because all the FT Jackson kids who were there 2-3 weeks before the rest of us got taught everything. Then THEY were supposed to teach us. But that never happened. I literally didn't learn a SINGLE thing during basic, and just spent the ENTIRE time, every single day getting smoked. The only thing the Army gave me was a fucked up back, shoulders, and knees. When I got discharged I couldn't even put on my own clothes some days. And now, 7 months later I still have terrible range of motion. Can barely go up and down stairs. Ahhh. Fun. To top it off, because of my discharge I'm unable to get a new IT job which is what I've done for the last 10-15+ years professionally. Had I even known that was a thing before hand, I would've never joined in the first place. So, come next month I'm gonna be homeless. At least the Army prepared me for that lmao

While stationed at Campbell my platoon was out doing double time for PT.
We kept passing another small group of soldiers who where also running.
Our pace never changed, there's did.
After a few times of passing the other unit I got annoyed and called out "somebody ain't gonna make it, somebody just can't take it."
The leaders from the other group were pissed.
But I had my PL and PSG there with me and I got away with it.
I was an E-3 at the time.
Everyone in my platoon died laughing.

I always loved marching to a cadence, however tedious it may have been back then. Been a long time and I haven’t forgotten my Drill Sergeants, SFC Melendy, and SFC Thompson! Or Mad Dog and Mad Mel as they told us! Damn good NCO’s!

Had a drill sergeant in basic training, SFC Kornegay who would call cadence to songs while marching. One of his tunes was Elvis Presley's "Didja Ever" from GI Blues. He would sing and we would do the refrain. Made two mile marches almost pleasant.

What happens if you're the NCOIC leading the cadence, but you suddenly forget the lyrics? Then you'd have your men yelling out a bunch of silly mumbo-jumbo.
In French, they call something like that "chanter à yaourt," because it's like singing with a mouth full of yogurt.

#USArmy , To help with recruiting and retention: in modern American society bullying and picking on one another is inappropriate and in many situations illegal immoral behavior. Picking on people is now Unethical behavior. The citizens see how rough and unhappy veterans are. They don't want a family that abuses. You don't need shame, belittling, or abuse to create warriors.
The older people have many excuses to keep the old ways. The fact is citizens don't want to be a part of an organization that still considers human beings property. I know we were drilled to believe we were property. It's highly inappropriate and unethical behavior by American standards, with all due respect , Drill Sergeants.

I wish we had that in Germany. We either call links-zwo-drei-vier which translates to left-two-three-four or we just don't call. I've been in units where marching in formation was just a complete shitshow.

What is the point of formation marching today? It was useful back when battles were in lines and blocks and the marching was good for formation transition and moving from a march to a battle formation. We don't fight that way anymore.
