Playtime was with friends and/or siblings and we played at whatever our imagination suggested, or football/soccer etc. We were outside doing things until we were called in for dinner or bedtime. Mom was always around and dad wasn’t too far away or due in from work any time soon. That is a deeply secure and peaceful feeling that I miss the most. What a lovely story. I can only remember my 7 years older brothers female friends singing this and driving him up the wall. However, I loved the song and melody and still do. Happy, happy days!

i watched this on tv in the early 70s when we lived in the poor part of manchester, england. all i can remember about it is the theme song. still moves me to tears.

Somehow I remembered this as being in colour! Strange how our memories play tricks on us...or maybe I just had a vivid imagination. Adore, adore adore this song :)
Aw!, however, you seemed happy whether or not you lived in the poor part of Manchester. I did a TV show there every week and stayed in quite a nice hotel. I remember it well, happy memories..............Jackie Lee.
@GGla45 Tha's so sweet, I am so pleased you were able to find this video. Oh! youth, we dont realize at the time how precious those days are. Thanks for your comment. Jackie Lee.
Summer Holidays..1974/75. Out of bed at 8:30..waiting for the BBC1 test card to finish & ''my shows'' to start. White Horses, Flashing Blade & Robinson Crusoe all to myself with breakfast of sweet tea & toast. What a start to the day. Those times are gone. Today?...it's grim breakfast tv, with grim news told by grim people. If the BBC had any sense they'd try these shows for a week...& see the viewing figures zoom. But they can't...all the tapes of these broadcasts have been lost. Shame on us.
Every now and then UA-cam throws up a magical, totally unexpected gem from the past. And this has got to be the best to date. I'm told by my dear mum that, as a 4 or 5 yr old, I used to fight back tears every time this song came on the tv! I can't add any kinder words than have already been written. Carefree, joyful memories. Fabulous. And so lovely to see you on here Jackie! My three children will be introduced to this tomorrow morning! Followed by my mum! Warms the heart. Thank you.
My brother and I used to watch this in the summer holidays and I often search it up on UA-cam just to listen to the theme tune. Lovely song and lovely memories!
@julka1 Oh my what a lump this has brought to my throat happy happy days of childhood!!!!!!! I so wish the series would be repeated, everyone of my generation remembers it with such love!!! Thank you for sharing this!! Diana
A big thank you Jackie for a wonderful song and beautifully sung. It still brings a lump to my throat all these years later, and yes I did buy the single way back then too - and I still have it to this day. The White Horses was my favourite TV program when I was growing up.
Jackie, I still have your White Horses cassette my dad bought me in 1969 when I was 11! I knew all the songs and used to make double track harmony recordings of I Think I Like You and Things I Don t Mean To Say, and am word perfect now 43 years later!!! Thank you so much for the nostalgia!!
takes me back to being a kid in the 70s , loved the theme tune by jackie lee and never realised she sang the theme to rupert the bear as well .... jackie lee you're a legend
How I loved this programme as a child. Luckily my daughter loves horses too and our circumstances were such that she had her own when she was growing up. She is still a horse owner in her early 30s with assistance from her own boys, husband and mum still helps out. She even has a beautiful grey quarter horse ❤️ 5 year old me would never have believed how life would turn out in the end.
I'm just delighted to see these clips. I adored White Horses, and I'm not ashamed to say I've shed a tear or two watching the clips, took me right back to my childhood. Thank you so much. Any chance of any more, there are so many people who loved this programme, it would be fabulous to see more of this.
Just been transported back to the long summer of 1976. That year Wales has again won another yet Grand Slam and I am on Whitsun Holidays in Tenby at the Giltar Hotel. Thank you Jackie- all I need now is a cold glass of milk and a curly wurly and my mother's knee to sit on - oh hold a minute- I am malt whiskey drinking 16 stone bloke from South Wales-still your heart must be made of stone not to shed a tear when you hear Jackie sing this most evocative and timeless of theme tunes. I never the series just turned it on for the theme tune!!! When in Robinson Crusoe on next?
Thank you GoodOldSmithy, Your memories conjured up such fuzzy wozzy feelings reading your memories of you being cuddled on your mothers knee, sweet, sweet. Jackie Lee..
I have just found this after a conversation about Follyfoot farm led me to recall White Horses and how I loved it as a child. The theme song is beautiful and will always remind me of fond memories riding horses, and pretending to be the girl in the programme. I can't remember her name! and I had no idea back then that it was dubbed! The simplicity of childhood. Thank you Jackie Lee, for posting this. Best wishes, Yvonne
Used to love watching this when I was growing up (in Scotland), made me want to learn to ride..I never did but my children did..the song was and is one of my favourites..takes me back to innocent, happy times.
+Fiona Dynowski Hello Fiona, so glad that you still remember and like my White Horses Theme song. It certainly was a more innocent time. Thanks a lot for your comment....................Jackie Lee
So nice to see that MsJackieLee has commented on this video. It if wasn't for Jackie's dreamy voice drifting along with this intro, White Horses would just be another children's television show that came and went in our young lives.
Beautiful theme tune still brings a lump to my throat I remember watching this series when I was a child I'm 47 now just nice to reminisce it was a great programme and so many happy memories xx
How nice it is for me to be still remembered for singing the White Horses Theme song. It is also wonderful to have happy childhood memories. Where would we be without them Kirsti. Thank you...........Jackie Lee.
I'm 45. Rediscovered this by chance. Beautiful. Made me cry of course, just bought the Crusoe CD lately....brilliant! Cried again. What an amazing age we are living through. My children, 4,6, and 8 are in love with these old series that I'm showing them. I didnn't expect that, but delighted. Regards, Mike.
ive just been timewarped back to 1976,the sun is never ending during a long hot summer. Its the school holidays, the ice cream has arrived and beg my mummy for 10p to get an strawberry split, i rush back in to watch the double deckers then go on a cycle run on my beloved chopper bike. Its not all good news though...its bath night !!!! AAAAAAGHHHH
Thank you for uploading. I am taken back to a time of innocence and childhood. I remember watching this on Saturday mornings during the summer when school was shut for the holidays. 1973 and Belfast was self-destructing around me but I could escape to a happy place where a pretty girl enjoyed her horses and life seemed "normal"
+Enoch sawit Hi to you Enoch, Belfast brings back so many happy memories for me. My Mother was born in Portadown Co.Armagh. I used to spend many summer months there and Belfast, ah! happy memories for me. Thank you so much for your comment..........Jackie Lee.
Hi Enoch, I was brought up in Belfast & rememberd this Soo well ! My dearly beloved granny was alive & enjoyed the TV series too ☺️ I'm a young 61 now ☺️
I was born and raised in Belfast and was just about out of my teens when the 'White Horses' appeared on tv. I watched every week as I was fascinated by the beautiful horses and the pretty girl!
Thanks for uploading this :D I had a wonderful blast of nostalgia for those happy days of childhood and then was able to play this for my daughter - after telling her about the stand out things of my childhood here it is on YT!! wonderful. loved this song .
You awesome person having all these wonderful horse programmes! My memories are going bonkers here. It was first on in 1968 on a Monday at 5:20 in the UK. This is the best place on You tube. Kiss kiss for this.
I'm so glad I've heard your song again after so many years, I'm 47 now , not sure how old I would have been when it was shown on tv. I can remember getting up really early just to hear the theme song , I so love your voice on that song it's so pure and airy, It brings back a certain feeling when I hear it ,really love it. Bob
Oh wow...I haven't seen this since 1968 and I remembered every word of the theme song...I think it even got into the top 10 that year!! I used to love this programme.
Agreed it was a very special moment in time as a child watching this. I translated the German into English subtitles 2010 before later on the English soundtrack being recovered. I still enjoy both versions.
Its on the net that there are no known film for this programme and boy was i bowled over when i found this clip!!! , 1000 thumbs up to you, you made my week, a pure joy, every summer holiday when i was a very young child i looked forward to watching this ,it was my fvourite, thank you for sharing it with us , nver thought i'd ever see it again.
+barry bagnail Me too! My grandma told me she did it as I child so I went home and tied rope to my sister's and mothers bikes as well as mine. I would exercise these 'horses' daily. Oh it makes me smile. They all had names and I took it so seriously. I was lucky enough to eventually have a real live pony of my own.
thank you so much for posting this. I still LOVE it after all these years...... and that song... "sun white horses" .... makes me smile & cry @ the same time.. Oh to be 10 years old again
No other song more perfectly expresses the joy, innocence and expectation of childhood. And no other song more directly reminds an adult of that childhood state. Thank you for this. it is a song that will be with me always.
I just want to cry this brings back such happy memories of my childhood, my mother gave me am LP and she would sing a song it started I think , Torn your shit again, fighting in the rain with what's his name. but that kind of all I know, would love to hear it thank you for helping with such beautiful memories Alan X
Ms jackie Lee. Several years ago I posted that this song made me feel a bit better when I was experiecing a terrible time. Today I am experiencing the best period of my life and I still return to this song - an inspiring song for all life experiences. Thank you.
James Creelman Hello James, I am so pleased that you got through a bad phase in your life and that my White Horses song helped somewhat. I am also happy that you came through and are now on top of the world. Good luck for the future. Jackie Lee.
Theme tunes in the 70s were brilliant. Always remember this one during the summer holidays cos I let my sis get in the chair nearest the telly while I sat up in the kitchen and had toast with jam.
What an honour to follow the fantastic Ms Jackie Lee in these comments! I grew up loving Rupert and my parents bought the record for me when I was four. My daughter now loves Rupert and your version of the theme tune. The White Horses song is beautiful too. Thank you x
Brings back memories of early 1970's summer holiday telly. White Horses, Champion the Wonder Horse, Casey Jones, Flashing Blade, Robinson Crusoe, Belle and Sebastian and there was once a programme with the long name - 'Why don't you just switch off your television set and go and do something less boring instead' - anyone remember that?
recently bought some of those you mention on dvd , black beauty and skippy too , I just about remember the munroes and it took me a while to remember the name for the newton boys , another fav was pinky and perky , my older brother loved tich and quackers ,George and the dragon , etc , we were lucky as kids to have these great progs
I was born in 1968 when I listen to this close my eyes and it takes me back to when I was a kid I can still smell and feel them feeling in the house I lived. Thanks for sharing
This sounds morbid but I would like this played at my funeral for two reasons. Firstly as everyone has commented it moves people to tears so if nobody is crying than this will do the trick! Secondly it reminds me of my childhood and how I loved the program for its unique "feel good" factor today's t.v lacks.
+Sarah Dobbs ..............Hello Sarah, thank you for taking the time to write and to honour me in such a way. I had a little giggle while reading your comment.................Jackie Lee.
What a beautiful voice and a fantastic theme song, I remember having this on a 45 which I played over and over, when I was a child. I think I still may have that single somewhere.
Hi Lovewilltearus, I have had so very many comments like this one of how White Horses has brought back so many wonderful happy memories and I am so pleased and delighted to have been a part of them. Jackie Lee
Two cats my goodness you are gettimg as bad as myself with four, what does Purdy think of have a usurper in her midst with kittens to come, lol, bless their little furry paws. Yes Matthew has been in touch and I heard from him this morning. In fact he is going to give me a phone call. It will be nice to hear about his upcoming project it seems quite interesting and I will be delighted to be somehow involved when needed. Keep the home fires burning for me, Jackie (Lee)
And here I am again, a year after posting my first comment on seeing this utterly wonderful footage; crying like a baby. It never fails to evoke such happy memories of youthful times. Julika, I don't know if you read these comments, but if you do; then thank you, thank you so very much for giving each and everyone of us here the pleasure of seeing this again. It's just wonderful. Bliss, just bliss. x
The original dubbed was remarkably good however... Watching the original language version with English subtitles is much better. You get the real feel as Vladimir Carin had intended.
I remember this on TV when I was three years old. My older sister used to watch it and I watched it with her. Boy, do I owe her a lot for the memories of TV programmes and music I have because of her, memories I wouldn't have otherwise.
Wonderful song, beautifully sung. Brings back so many memories.. My brother and I never missed an episode. Life seemed to be so much nicer in those days,...ty..
It's such a shame that Helga Anders died from drink and drugs at 38. A sweet looking girl went totally off the rails and because of her habits, died of heart failure. That lying in bed scene was priceless. What an amazing face.
My goodness I wasn't aware how she died . I heard that she was rather young when she passed away. What a shame and a waste of a young life. Jackie Lee.
I remember this show. I watched it because of her - she was my first crush. I thought she was beautiful. It' so sad that she died so young and in such terrible circumstances.
julka1 It's a pity that she wasn't destined to be a great star. She really was lovely and she could act: sometimes we forget that ability, and not just looks, matter as well. It's so sad.
But lets not forget that your singing of the theme song also made the series complete, MsJackieLee. Your voice will forever be etched very very deeply into my memory of being a child. White Horses would just be another children's TV series if it wasn't for you singing the theme song.
This beautifully sung title song from Jackie Lee epitomised the 1960's for me and takes me back to a blessed childhood in Penzance, Cornwall many years ago. She had a very diaphanous voice didn't she; absolutely beautiful to the ears; yep, what a song. I'd say that Jackie probably contributed to the shows's popularity as folks would tune in just to hear the title song. The only other song that reminds me of the atmosphere created by Jackie is the Shelley Fabares song "Johnny Angel". Both takes the listener back to the days when life seemed so much better somehow. Thankyou so much Ms Jackie Lee. Nick xxx
@MsJackieLee I used to play this for my youngest Daughter to get her to sleep at night, worked everytime, thank you so much, Miss Lee, much appreciated
Thank you. This reminds me of my childhood and my older sisters who always sang the song. They are now 50 something. Time flys but im glad I was a kid then.
I loved that TV series, I just think we were so lucky with the TV we had in the sixties and seventies. I always get a lump in my throat when I hear that song. Thanks for sharing that video.
Wonderful, sitting here lost in memories of summer days at the riding stables when as a child you had no worries. My daughter who is to young to remeber this (21) would love to see more of this series.
@MsJackieLee ... your voice was and is beautiful, I used to imagine I had a stunning horse like the ones on this show.. *sighs deeply*... Thanks for your beautiful voice bringing back happy memories on my Old Black and White telly..hee hee.. I was born in *gulp* 1962... Happy days indeed... Regards from sunny Wales :0)x
Have very fond memories of watching this and many other serials from Europe over the summer holidays of the late 60's into the 70's. This theme music tales me right back.

i watched this on tv in the early 70s when we lived in the poor part of manchester, england. all i can remember about it is the theme song. still moves me to tears.
+cal kal .......Thank you very much for your touching comment Cal. I used to go to Manchester quite a lot to do TV shows. That's quite a long time ago, however, I remember it well..............Jackie Lee.
+cal kal The song used to make me cry when I was a little boy of 3. I'm 50 now and it still brings a lump to my throat for some reason.
+burtowi ............Aw!, that is so sweet. You still a young'un to me. Thanks a bunch for you comment...........Jackie Lee.
+ cal Same here, I heard this for the first time in years today, and it took me right back. I adored the theme and remembered it to this day. Made me quite emotional.
Jackie Lee.
Takes me way back to when life was much simpler.
Yes Adam, it did seem that life was simpler back when. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to turn back time just for a little while.
Jackie Lee.
How I long for those days again.
.. and happier! still love your Rupert theme Jackie :)
I listen to this with tears streaming down my face. The soundtrack to my youth. This and banana splits. What a time to be alive 😀❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hazy summer school holidays, this one or the Flashing Blade, and nothing else mattered.
‘Hazy summer school holidays’ - you hit the sentiment perfectly there, thank you!
"size of an eagal "
Banana splits and double deckers but agree flashing blade and this were top of the list along with buster crabbes buck rogers and Flash Gordon

Casey Jones 🙂
Reminds me of being a tiny kid in the 70's. Happy happy times. And now I feel all tearful. Thank you for posting. :-)
Hi Ismath, Isn't it so nice to have good childhood memories and I am lucky to be part of yours thank you................Jackie Lee.
@@MsJackieLee I play this track when I want to relax. Your voice is so dreamy.
I'm gonna cry... any second... now...
Oh i loved this song and it brought tears to my eyes hearing it again after all these years.
This is one of my favourite themes from my childhood. Without Jackie's amazing voice the song wouldn't have been have as good.
Should be on tv now,can remember it been repeated every summer holidays in the seventies....memories .
Makes me realise i have had over half my life gone! Oh to be very young again and care free. We can never go back can we. :-(((
It's was a very special time to be a child and have a TV set.
I'm just delighted to see these clips. I adored White Horses, and I'm not ashamed to say I've shed a tear or two watching the clips, took me right back to my childhood. Thank you so much. Any chance of any more, there are so many people who loved this programme, it would be fabulous to see more of this.
Those were the days when television programming made for children was in my opinion of a much higher quality than it is today.
This is a wonderful childhood memory for me. Brilliant. Iam now 44 years old and this tune is still special to me today as it was then. Thanks.
Thank you GoodOldSmithy,
Your memories conjured up such fuzzy wozzy feelings reading your memories of you being cuddled on your mothers knee, sweet, sweet.
That has to be one of the sweetest songs ever. I loved this when I was a youngster!
Always reminds me of school holidays in the very early 70s. This and the flashing blade.
Flashing blade was awesome..
Brings back many lovely memories!
ive just been timewarped back to 1976,the sun is never ending during a long hot summer.
Thanks for uploading this :D I had a wonderful blast of nostalgia for those happy days of childhood and then was able to play this for my daughter - after telling her about the stand out things of my childhood here it is on YT!! wonderful. loved this song .
i recall watching the tv series in the early 70s as a child. Fantastic theme tune, every time i hear it i am 8 years old again, i am 53 next week.
+paul pollard ....Thanks a lot Paul, you young'un. Time certainly fly's doesn't it...........Jackie Lee.
Yeah same here, I loved the theme tune, cant remember any of the acting tho!
At least you remember the White Horses theme song, and I thank you for that Linda.................Jackie Lee.
you took words right out of my mouth dax
MsJackieLee this song is so beautiful. sweetness and sadness combined. it moves me to tears to hear the vocals. a perfect match.
You awesome person having all these wonderful horse programmes! My memories are going bonkers here. It was first on in 1968 on a Monday at 5:20 in the UK. This is the best place on You tube. Kiss kiss for this.
this made my heart soar when i heard it
I'm so glad I've heard your song again after so many years, I'm 47 now , not sure how old I would have been when it was shown on tv.
Brings back so many memories of long summer holidays in the early 70's.
Life has changed so much, wish I had a time machine.
Thanks for posting
Wonderful childhood memories. This was my favourite,. ❤️🐎🐎🐴
Loved watching the tv programme and this music brings back the early 70's for me.
It makes me think of school holidays, so long ago now.
oh lovely, adored watching this when I was young, used to tie rope to the handle bars on my bike, as reins, a childs joy!
The sound of my childhood MsJackieLee, and a song that stands up in its own right as a classic.
No other song more perfectly expresses the joy, innocence and expectation of childhood. And no other song more directly reminds an adult of that childhood state. Thank you for this. it is a song that will be with me always.
I just want to cry this brings back such happy memories of my childhood, my mother gave me am LP and she would sing a song it started I think , Torn your shit again, fighting in the rain with what's his name. but that kind of all I know, would love to hear it
thank you for helping with such beautiful memories
Alan X
Is the song your trying to find 'My baby loves lovin' by The White Plains?
'When you are a King'
by the White Plains is the song you are looking for,
Ms jackie Lee.
Jackie Lee.
Hi Rita, you are quite right I did indeed record Rupert the bear and Inigo Pipkin. Both ot those were written by my ex.
Jackie Lee
Wonderful, thank you for posting... I can still sing the theme turn 35 years later I loved it!
White Horses, Champion the Wonder Horse, Casey Jones, Flashing Blade, Robinson Crusoe, Belle and Sebastian and there was once a programme with the long name - 'Why don't you just switch off your television set and go and do something less boring instead' - anyone remember that?
yes it was called , why dont you
recently bought some of those you mention on dvd , black beauty and skippy too , I just about remember the munroes and it took me a while to remember the name for the newton boys , another fav was pinky and perky , my older brother loved tich and quackers ,George and the dragon , etc , we were lucky as kids to have these great progs
How I used to dream of owning one of those beautiful white horses as a child. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
Two more summer shows were The Double Deckers and The Aeronauts.
Loved the Double Deckers!
You'll find all the Areonauts here ua-cam.com/channels/k3HTY378CNpV4JfLXfcDNQ.html
Hi Lovewilltearus,
I have had so very many comments like this one of how White Horses has brought back so many wonderful happy memories and I am so pleased and delighted to have been a part of them.
Keep the home fires burning for me,
Jackie (Lee)
Lol
I love jackie lee gorgeous girl ,lovely voice,if I was married to her I would want her to sing me to sleep, what a way to go
LOL, love it.................Jackie Lee.
Chris Padwick She was a beautiful girl and a big star in Germany.
julka1 It's a pity that she wasn't destined to be a great star.
This is such a lovely song, to this TV program,
I saw this as a re-run when I was really small, in the 70's
Ahh the time before all the evil people took over the world
This beautifully sung title song from Jackie Lee epitomised the 1960's for me and takes me back to a blessed childhood in Penzance, Cornwall many years ago.
Nick xxx
+NickPenlee I enjoyed reading your interesting comment Thank you so much for your very kind words................Jackie Lee.
+MsJackieLee
A real pleasure Jackie
Thank you.
@MsJackieLee I used to play this for my youngest Daughter to get her to sleep at night, worked everytime, thank you so much, Miss Lee, much appreciated
What a Gem, takes me back, so loved this song, and the white horses and Julia my first crush, thank you Jackie for the happy memories :-)
Thank you so much for sharing this rare and wonderful episode from all our youths.
Love & Gentle Light to Helga - Ian xxx
---one of the most crystal-clear videos I have yet came across on 'youtube'---a brilliant opening theme-tine from a more innocent and wholesome time-----SHEER CLASS!
Thanks for posting this. This, too, remind me of those long school summer holidays we used to have back in the day. I agree - the sun always seemed to shine back then too! Fantastic!
I’m 59. Was adopted in England and live in the United States. I have had this song in my head forever and occasionally put it out there. This is the first time it has come up. You have no idea what this does for me.
The singer Jackie Lee also sang the theme song to Rupert the bear,...it's also on here somewhere,....she was beautiful.
Thanks for posting this clip, it takes me back to much nicer time.
Hmm So the movie 'Me Without You' starring Anna Friel, Michelle Williams, Kyle MacLachlan Oliver Milburn used this track and I was under the belief it was written and recorded specifically for that movie, no it's from this mostly unknown TV series White Horses. Great track it is
Well bless you for that lovely comment hitheskins. It amazes me how many young men now write to me about how they love My White Horses. I am thrilled to read all of the comments and and it gives me great pleasure in answering them.
Jackie Lee.
