    I took some lessons when I was a kid, but I never had time to practice, so I gave up. 25+ years later, I finally have the time and the support to learn. Hopefully, this will get me on the fast track.

    This is what’s called Scale Degrees. This has been around in music theory for much longer than the Nashville Number System.
    The Nashville Number System uses scale degrees but there’s much more to it.

    I came across this video three days ago and I have already been able to pick out different songs. I’ve watched this video probably 20 times. You have simplified playing piano. I was in the band in high school and on scholarship in college. What’s awesome is being able to play in keys I never thought I would be able to play in. Love this video and and all the others you have made. Thank you for making this.

    I don't know how you popped up on my feed but it was exactly what I was looking for. It's been real easy to understand you. I appreciate it very much. Someone else was trying to teach me this in a different manner but I wasn't catching on as well. I feel like I have a better flow with you. I believe this will help me better express my songs in the studio with other musicians. Thank you!!

    I play acoustic guitar and I still really enjoyed this lesson. A great video for you to do would be on the #1, #4, #5 numbers. I just learned yesterday that usually the #1 and #5 are fully diminished and the #4 is usually the half diminished (maybe you could expound on this). We moved to St. Louis about a year ago and I started, in January, playing acoustic guitar under Jeromy Hoffee at the Sanctuary. I never used the Number system until I started to play at the Sanctuary but it really makes sense to me. I'm learning more all of the time. Thank you for this video. My wife plays piano and this will really help her.

    Thanks for posting this material Brandon! I'm starting down the path of learning the number system myself. If you ever have the time, I'd love for you post more about using the number system. Specifically what you mentioned at 15:17. I'd love to learn more about playing chords without always using the root position. That said, I hope you continue making videos. I appreciate all that you do!

      you can change the speed of the video by adjusting it in settings which is to the right just under the video same horizontal area that volume and pause are. comes in handy to speed up too, with some talk shows.

    I am familiar with and understand the numbering system,.my question is, with the numbering system how do you know which octave you should play In ( I play piano/ keyboard mostly)

    • @StudioB_Brandon
      @StudioB_Brandon  Рік тому

      The number system doesn't let you know which octave to play. You will use the number system plus you ear to play the right chords in the right octave. Hope this helps!

    Brandon, I believe you are sincere in teaching this, but as a musician and producer in Nashville for more than 45 years I can tell you that the progression you are using (1,2m,3,4,5,6m,7dim) is NOT the basis for the Nashville Number System. All the chords in the NNS are major...always. There is never a time when a professional Nashville musician will play a 6 as a minor. A number by itself will always be read as Major. A minor chord must have a suffix attached as in 6- or 6m. I pray you research this and get it right.
