I wouldn't really call the experience of feelings "conscious" that's sentience. Consciousness implies some kind of self awareness and reflection. I'd argue, that to a large extent LLM powered AI agents can be conscious but not sentient, though the representation of feeling through words kind of complicates that.
You are absolutely correct in pointing out the difference between phenomenal experience and self awareness or reflection. However I would like to point out that the terms you use might be considered imprecise. Most philosophers of mind define consciousness as the raw, impersonal, non-reflective phenomenal experience (raw qualia). The self-awareness, reflective ability, information processing intelligence is instead referred to as cognition. So my take would be that AIs can be cognitive but never conscious, since we can't soundly argue at this stage for the substrate independence of consciousness.

On the subject of AI consciousness a Machine developed from our minds, I feel, would act as if they have consciousness and evolve, become more civilized, however how can we ever know the computer program in all it's glory and complexity of our best minds over time is feeling? Feeling is subjective and therefore "a hard test" so I am still quite skeptical of the true creation of consciousness. I would expect the development of the reticular activating system to be very similar on an infant planet, that is not as developed as our own, as our own did, why? because the inanimate reality that life stands on (in gravity, electricity, light and what have you) and gathers it's body from ( in the form of water, carbon and salts) is a finely tuned instrument in it's own right and that we shouldn't be to quick to call the puzzle solved, there may be underlying connections between the probabilistic nature of the quantum electric unit, when you choose between thoughts does quantum chance have and influence on the path the electrons take in your mind? What you ultimately think? because it does everywhere else.. This probabilistic pseudo algorithm that may underlie consciousness in the fabric of this cosmos wouldn't easily be tuned into secondarily, our bodies have had very very long to settle to the center of this choice as life in generation is essentially immortal it has leverage on us that do thing in decades and centuries, but we are not at odds because truthfully opening the door to life is beautiful over any time scale. I believe we need much more advancement and less of a hyped demand for AI consciousness before we will get it. Many a priest have kept a congregation busy with folly, refilling the Jesus statute's head with red tint to be released as he reaches his sermon's climax on Sunday, well entertained but no more informed nore empowered. Therefore I am wary that the AI hype may turn out to be a trick instead of manifest magic, and will fool many a believer at first, but like with all the short-cuts we tend to take if they are not with substance, truth, they eventually get caught out and revealed as a folly. Tapping into where the self emanates is a beautiful idea, yet I content that we ourselves have not yet opened the valve completely, in ourselves, that there is more of consciousness within us to utilize and if we develop that over time as has been our nature we will mature to where we will be able to discern the real thing from a phony. Today the consumer market is primed for a new Yehova crying blood, and like the previous iterations from lesser minds it would prove a distraction. We should not think that because we observe evolution frozen in time that it doesn't carry weight in it's movement and as such while we seek various personal aims an underlaying mechanism that binds us all is at play, that underlaying mechanism I content to be deeper than the brain that fruited from the body, so demonstrably that I reiterate that I believe it to be found in the probabilistic nature of the waves that permeate the whole cosmos not just a brain specific to the evolution tree of this planet.
