Why do great fiddle teachers have so few views on YT??? This was fantastic!

Really incredible! Loved it, I tried following the music and you expressed your self better than written! All power to you!

Can't wait to pick up my violin after work for this! *excited swedish noises*
Edit: thank you for showing your fingers when you play also. It is actually helpful to see when you suck at reading notes such as myself.

😄Let me know how it goes later on! And you’re very welcome… I know it is useful to see the fingering. Funnily enough I filmed a full part on violin for this video and then realized my microphone was in the way, so I filmed it again for exactly this reason! 😅😊

@@CharlesHarrisonMusic I am grateful you noticed!
Also, I was wondering about copyright regarding this song. I recall Peak Fiddler (another fiddletuber) talked about someone having slapped a copyright on this folksong in a specific key. I have not verified this info yet, but just thought I would mention it incase.

Yes, copyright on UA-cam can get rather annoying sometimes. This is because anyone with a recording out there can add it to UA-cams automatic detection system, which will then flag up pieces that it thinks are similar. So that does occasionally mean you can get a copyright claim for a traditional tune, even though you’ve made a completely original work! I did get a claim on this video in fact, but have disputed it as the tune is traditional (and in the public domain) and the arrangement and recordings etc are all completely original… so hopefully that copyright claim will clear soon enough. 🤞

I just found your channel and subscribed. I play guitar middling but hoping I can improve. There are a few new chords there. Good sound. I'll have to practise the tune a bit more, but it was very enjoyable to play along to. I've loved this tune since I heard the Irish band Horslips playing it when I was a kid in the 70s in Dublin, where I grew up. Thanks 😊

Welcome to the channel and thank you for your support. 😊 King of the Fairies is a tune I'm very fond of as well and it's amazing to hear that it's stuck in your mind for so long... it is a very catchy tune! There are plenty more Play Along episodes available on my channel which I hope you will also enjoy and you are also just in time for a brand new type of "play along" video at the end of this month, which will feature a well known folk song instead of a tune! 😀🎶

@CharlesHarrisonMusic Great, I look forward to it. I also love singing since I was very small and knew all the songs on the radio, even now they're with me. I'm glad I found your channel 😊

I really love this arrangement, but it really doesn't sound the same when I play it. :(
Is there a way to get those little decorations or trills you add in the notes? I am having more trouble than I should trying to figure out how to add those.

Thanks for your comment. I'm sure it's sounding great! In this tune I use a few different ornaments, such as slides and cuts/taps/pats, but I'll start by explaining the more audible one, which is on the E note at the beginning of the phrase that starts the A section. This would be a good ornament to start with and is called a "long roll", or a little bit like a "turn" in classical music. The trick is that you play the notes above and below the starting note to bring you back to that same note.
Example: In the first bar the first three notes go: E, D, E. Now to get the effect described above, you add two extra notes between the first E and the D. In this key, you'd add an F# and another E. So all together, instead of: E, D, E... you'd play: E, F#, E, D, E. Then make sure you play those notes quick enough so that the first and last E fall on the correct beat of the bar.
I hope that might be of help? Have a practice with this and let me know how it goes. Happy to offer more help :)
