"victims of their own success, the explorers pretty much stay home" that coupled with the image of the shuttle coming down in reverse is absolutely soul wrenching

Carl Sagan was a living model of what we should all strive to be. Compassionate & curious, to use our intelligence with confidence and caution. To do our best to measure ourselves and therefore best determine what measures we should take. He was a gentle, yet persistent voice of reason; clearly delivering the path to the answers that lie in us all, whether we recognize it or not. The only way to truly appreciate his message is to try and live it.

That was the best summation of Carl Sagan's life and career as a human being I have ever heard. If Carl were here today and asked all of us "What have you done for humanity lately?". Anything I can come with, falls somewhere between mediocrity and selfishness. Trying to live up to Carl's hopes for humanity is a tall order.

You know, when I look around I lose almost all faith in humanity. However, when I watch things like this.. it puts back some of that faith that I lose. This is a simply wonderful video. Thank you and thank you Mr. Sagan for everything.

Its strange, I''m a guy who doesn't cry, sad movies, sad funerals, depressing situations regardless of the time or place I swallow it back and 'man up' but a 3:23 minute video about our achievements and potential leaves me in tears that I can't hold back.
Thank you Reid Gower and of course Carl Sagan for giving me hope in what we can achieve! =)

We are not quite the middle children. We are taking that of which we've gathered from our knowledge of the universe and reapplying it to ourselves. In many ways we live in the most interesting time, as we get to be the one's discovering the applications of that of which our ancestors explored and what our great grandchildren will explore.

This video is so underrated it makes my heart ache. This method of thinking; the way Sagan takes a panoramic view of it all, it's so rare...I would like to believe that humanity will come to its senses but I know it won't, and that's what makes me so sad.

Whenever i listen to carl sagan i get this feeling! A mixture of fear and excitement, sadness, and happiness. We will not see any aliens or other planets, we wont travel in space, but dont feel bad:
You are alive! You know whats out there. You know where you came from. You just dont know yet where you will be going.... yet!
I believe that when we die, we venture in outer space. We become the universe once again! Dont worry, you will see the universe in all its glory, no need to rush! :)

I love this man. I’ve gone through a very deep depression to the point of suicide and when I discovered this man it brought a little light unto my world. My wives family is always discrediting my admiration for men such as Carl Sagan because they don’t follow the Christian doctrine but this to me is my religion. I love science educators. Thank you Carl Sagan for the voice you have given to science.

I absolutely love this series although like others that have commented here it threatens to make me cry. The greed, corruption and stupidity that permeates humanity is astounding from our leaders on down. Just read the comments on any news article on Facebook. The most telling thing I can take from these videos is the statistic of military vs space budget, if we just flipped those figures humanity would be much better off and far more advanced. Sagan was the man!

They have giving, not only me, but all who watch them hope for the future and truly they do help to inspire those who believe that we can rise above our petty differences and travel into the heavens. Thank You

These videos bring tears to my eyes, very little has ever done that to me. But these are tears of hope and despair.
The hope is that I believe that one day, we will traverse the stars, that one day we will meet other beings, that one day, we can reach a peaceful and stable environment where different religions, cultures, and ideologies CAN EXIST peacefully.
Despair, that the hope will probably never happen.

About a year ago, I think it was. It was then that clips from the show cosmos found its way on to my laptop screen. I then went to my local library and rented the whole series. While watching, it quickly started to dawn on me the faults within myself, and within all of us. How blind I must have been. How many times I've refused to see the beauty of the everyday happenings. And so, I'm proud to say, through the words of Carl Sagan, and of several inspiring forms of literature since then, I love.
