Thank you for this update. A whole cast of some of my favorite actors, directors, gone on. They sure put in their tour of duty, for their work. Some I did not even know had passed on. I do get sad knowing they're gone, but life still must go on. I just know there is a rainbow, something much more beautiful at the end of a life, with good works put into it. I'll just try to do the best work, with my hands and mind to be in that beautiful place one day.✌
I saw this movie in Baghdad in 1949 when I was a few years old. Hedy Lamarr played Delilah and Victor Mature played Samson. I was named Victor after Victor Mature when I was born in San Francisco on May 7, 1943. When I was in my forties, I met Hedy Lamarr for the first time. My father introduced her to me. She was in her 70s and my father was about 85 -- She was a very good friend of his after Hedy escaped from the Nazis in Austria with her mother only. Her father, uncle and first husband ended up dying in the concentration camp in Austria -- Victor Isaac Alexander
I've said it before, but my goodness. The applause for Madeline Kahn kills me every time. Throughout the whole memoriam everyone is applauded respectively, but the thunderous applause for Madeline really shows how great a presence she really was and how she was taken way too early from this life.
And righfully so. Madeline was such a gifted actress. A very lovely woman too. I loved her in Paper Moon. She's always amazing in everything she did, but that's my personal fave. 😍👍❤
Hedy Lamarr was a lovely looking lady and not a bad actor either. Very sad how her life turned out, having plastic surgery didn't help matters. I've always like Victor Mature.
I've just watched this "In Memoriam 2000" again having re-uploaded it 3 years ago in 2013. I am still stunned by how many famous Hollywood names were lost to us in the year preceding the Oscars. I uploaded the video because I am an ardent Hedy Lamarr fan. Her "Samson & Delilah" co-star, Victor Mature, is also featured as he had died the previous August. Hedy died in January 2000 so "just made it" for the Oscars Memoriam in March 2000. Many more stars died that same year and are included in the In Memoriam selection for 2001. George Montgomery died in December 2000 and had briefly been engaged to Hedy in 1942 before they both went their separate ways and married other partners. Other notable stars who died in 2000 were: Walter Matthau, Alec Guinness, Lorreta Young, Jason Robards, John Gielgud and Douglas Fairbanks Jnr.

These honorees were all iconic figures, however, it was particularly traumatic to lose George C. Scott, one of the great actors of the screen and the New York stage, with extraordinary work in The Hustler, Dr. Strangelove, his Oscar turn in Patton, The Hospital and countless others; the loss of the comedic skills of Madeline Kahn, shown in Young Frankenstein, Paper Moon and Blazing Saddles, as well as Victor Mature, Hedy Lamarr, Oliver Reed, and ironically, three members of the Hollywood Blacklist: Edward Dmytryk, Ring Lardner Jr. and Abraham Polonsky.
Personally, I thought the applause was unnecessary and disrespectful for some of those well known actors that received less applause than more recent ones. Hedy, Victor, Loretta, and etc. were almost forgotten by the year 2000, so they get a smatter of applause, while those who were in the limelight, more recently, get a larger applause. Most of the well known actors as such mentioned were mainly in the movies or stage or both, the others in Televison. Those who were noted for their television appearances, were exposed almost daily, so they were more recognized for that, whereas the others did not make any appearances since 1950 or so. Like that ole'd saying goes, "Out of sight, out of mind".
Bravo les artistes belle et magnifique carrière bravo pour vos belle interprétation encore bravo ainsit aux metteurs en scène bravo 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🕊

Best review I ever heard was from Groucho Marx after seeing "Samson and Delilah." "Victor Mature's got much bigger knockers than Hedy Lamarr."

Eu gostaria muito q esses flimes antigos fossem dublado. Amo cinema e música❤

From Blazing Saddles, with Madeline Kahn. Amazing. She and Hedy Lamarr, were both gifted performers, whom happened to be very gorgeous. Esp, Hedy! 😍
@@waynej2608 Are you serious...you put Kahn in the same category with Hedy as far as "gorgeous"?
