    As a guy who built a PC for home, but uses a macbook pro on the go...I think this is fantastic, and realistically idk that you're gonna hit the reliability of the new mac mini's at that price point with a PC. Plusss if all your other computers are macs, the consistency for volunteers cannot be understated. Simplify to magnify!

    We use an ATEM Mini to switch HDMI sources for our main screen. If the ATEM is on Program Preview and the HDMI output is set to preview, you can bring a single camera into the computer on the program bus via USB, while the numbered buttons still switch sources on the Preview bus to the screen.

    Great video as always Ryland! One area you could possibly cut some costs is buying a cheaper display link adapter over the UltraStudio Monitor 3g. It has to be "Display Link," not a basic HDMI adapter. Display link adapters use special drivers to bypass apple silicon display limits. You can find these for around $50. The 3g is definitely from a more reliable brand but if you are looking to save some more money its an option to consider.

    We went with a lenovo pc with nvidia quadro video card. That gave me 7 video outputs and plenty of encoding power for our stream, monitor, confidence monitor, and audience screens. I may set up another output for our lobby. The outputs and dongles were the number one reason we didn't stay with a Mac. Also I know how to remote into it from home. With a compact tower, it does have a much larger footprint. 😊

    I am running a VERY similar setup for our youth as well actually. They're just running without a confidence monitor and that's it. I think I'll be adding one for them soon.

    Sounds like a good setup. I hadn't thought of using the Monitor 3G to add a stage display. We've been wanting to give our choir director a display in the rehearsal room, but couldn't justify the upgrade cost for that. This would be a much cheaper solution than adding a Decklink for that one extra output

    Nice video, I really enjoyed it. I have the M1 Mac Mini with 8gb of RAM and 256gb storage. It's not used in our church, but it does all our pre and postproduction work. We don't live-stream, I record the service and use Davinci Resolve to edit the video on the Mac and it renders really quickly for me.

    Hi Ryland. Thank you so much for this video!! I've basically copied it for my 50 member church. I have a few questions though. How were you able to get the ATEM Mini to go out to the main screen and also have a multi-view monitor? Is that we're the HDMI splitter comes into play? Also, can you explain more about getting lower thirds out of PP7 into the ATEM? We used to have an Intel MacBook Pro that had more ports and I could just use HDMI out to the ATEM. Now that we've switched to the Mac Mini M2 we've used up all of our thunderbolt / HDMI ports with the audience, stage screen and desktop monitor. It almost makes we had got the Mac Studio but that was way more expensive. Anyhow, any advice you can share would be amazing!! Thanks again!!

    Hey, So I have a Mac PC 21 and I have 2 HDMIs running from the pc to the ATEM switcher, When I have added the MBD UL. Studio Monitor I can set up a stage and Audience display, but I cant lyrics and Media from presenter to Live stream, I use BMD Switcher and Studio 4k for streaming and routing. I've tried with looks, Can you share with me the NDI method and what Software you use to send lyrics?

  • @ErnestDotPro
    @ErnestDotPro 6 місяців тому +1

    We recently switched to NDI outputs. This sends the screens over the network, making them available anywhere. Using Birddog Play as the decoders. This also takes a big processing load off of the computer.
    Downside, as you mentioned, is that it's not an actual display. This is good (no lost mouse wondering around the screen during service) and bad (everything displayed has to be in ProPresenter).
    Putting an ATEM in the mix would certainly help address the downsides.

    • @ErnestDotPro

      @@RylandRussell yes sir, and we're a mobile church plant with weekly setup/teardown at different venues.
      They have been rock solid, much more reliable than the wireless HDMI that was in use before.
      Birddog is the grandaddy of NDI, so I would expect nothing less.

    Any thoughts on the use of an HDMI to Ethernet adapter on the HDMI output of the ATEM Mini Pro to send video signals to projectors? My church has been using them for a few years now with very few issues.

  • @DontMe__
    @DontMe__ 6 місяців тому +1

    We use almost exactly a set up like this. It's pretty great!
    On the Mac vs PC question, I think in terms of longevity, Mac wins hands down. You can use a Mac way past its shelf life and they rarely if ever die. We're still using a 2014 Mac mini (previously our ProPresenter computer) at FOH for multitrack recording + LiveProfessor. Mac hardware is really solid and from my experience, basically never die.
    I've built PCs too and while they are cheaper, they will not last as long and would need more regular maintenance (both software and hardware). This might be acceptable for home/office use but for a church production environment, I don't think I would take the reliability hit.

    Ryland, we purchased all those items you mentioned in the video and we're also testing ProPresenter 7 (we've been using MediaShout). That said, we're having issues w/ the ATEM Mini Pro. We're going from the splitter (Mac Mini2 signal) to HDMI input 1 on the ATEM. Then, I plugged in the old laptop we were using w/ MediaShout into HDMI input 2. When I choose input 1 on ATEM, it'll show our Mac Mini for a short time (seconds), then it goes away, w/o ever coming back. When I choose input 1 on ATEM, the laptop works perfectly. Are there settings on the ATEM or on the Mac Mini I need to adjust, so the ATEM can work w/ our Mac Mini? We like the idea of having the ATEM to go between machines. Also, the ATEM got pretty hot after a while and w/o a power off option, we're concerned. Are you seeing that on your end? Thanks! Blessings.

      So when I removed the OREI splitter and go directly from the Mac Mini via the AV multiport adapter to the ATEM, it works. I'm wondering if the OREI splitter is failing, because I'm only using output 1 for the projector and have nothing on output 2 yet. I'm trying to track down a second projector to test that, but I'm glad I can at least bypass the OREI splitter for now and project off the ATEM.

    You're right that you probably could do the same thing for a lot cheaper on Windows. It looks like:
    PC - $429
    HDMI 1 - included
    HDMI 2 - included
    USB to HDMI Adaptor - $50
    So, about $479 for the setup. Though I've never tried going this cheap for ProPresenter.
    Regardless, you haven't taken into account that you need a monitor, of some kind and you need to get a keyboard and mouse (no one should have to use an Apple keyboard and mouse). And that's assuming that you already have a projector and some kind of stage display screen.
