    Thanks for the video. Very informative. I actually had to do this fix on a Honda rebel and a FZ6R, so this issue is common amongst many different motorcycles.

      My front amber lights are flickering and I’m on my third set of headlights for my cbr500. Could this be the issue?

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  3 роки тому

      Most likely, especially if there aftermarket.. the inner cable on most aftermarket light are so thin, likely 26 gauge which brakes so easily.. if not that then you have an exposed wire grounding out..

      Did it cause headlight issues ?

  • @kcscott11

    Hey thanks for this, of course I realized the lights turn off on most when they start but on most other types of stuff I work on thats a relay. So it gives me a really good direction to check on a customers bike

      Other two troubleshooting things you may want to look at is the clutch switch and side stand switch if the bike is not cranking. Both can be bypassed with a wire into the connectors to diagnose.

    My on switch doesn't work like this, but the contacts for the lights and for the high- low-beam were pretty dirty, and cleaning those did fix my issue. So maybe that's helpful for others aswell

    Great video. But how did you fix it or where you get the parts at

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  2 роки тому

      What up J, the solution is simple if your contacts are still good. Just clean the contacts with some alcohol or WD-40. You can also take some fine grade sand paper and scuff them up if you have hard to remove buildup. If there all fryed then you will need to purchase a new switch.. don't forget to subscribe brother.

    Great informative video.. my issue is a bit different..at idle my headlight dims, once throttle is applied, the headlight brightens to normal level. Could it be the voltage rectifier?

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Рік тому

      Put a meter on the battery at idle.. see if your getting the 14.5 volts you should be getting... If not then test the stator AC voltage.. if stator is good then your issue maybe the RR.. you won't know till you test that..

    • @TheChemistDIY

      Yes this happened to me one time, it ended up being a dirty connector at the front of the bike. Disconnect the connector at the front left side that runs to the instrument cluster. Spray some contact cleaner on both ends of those connection points and see if that resolves your issue.

    My small side lights are always on but the main ones won’t turn on unless full beam is on which uses the same bulbs so I don’t get why they don’t come on, they are supposed to always be on they just started being weird yesterday. I popped a wheelie and they came back on when front wheel landed for like 30seconds then flickered out. Anyone got any ideas what might be the issue bikes an sv650s

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  Рік тому

      Take a test light or DM and test the voltage across the high and low beam plugs. If it's there then wiggle the wire while test to see if the voltage cuts out at any point.. if voltage is still there the you know that the problem is forward the headlight plugs, meaning the headlights.
      I had this issue a long time ago and the problem was the harness plug was was dirty. I took some electrical contact cleaner and sprayed the connector.and the problem was solved.
      On another time I had purchased some eBay special bulbs and the ground in the headlights housing wasn't make good contact ( that thin little metal flip clip that holds the light in). I used a cap from a can of break clean to make myself a plastic washer and placed it in the housing before insertion of the headlights. The additional thickness of the spacer gave much better tension on the retainer clip and solved that issue.. hope one of these fixes your issue.. come back and let us know good, bad , or indifferent.

      Take it apart and see if this is your issue . after cleaning I never had a problem again.. but if your luck isn't as good, not to worry, you can find a placement switch on eBay.. I seen a few not to long ago..

      @@TheChemistDIY Sup James!! Yea bro, I ended up just buying a new starter kill switch assembly. Cost me 100 bucks. One of the copper contact points was melted into the plastic pretty good.

      Good call, sometimes things can't be fixed and you have to go the other route buy purchasing. At least now you'll have peace of mind knowing you're good for another 100,000 mi...lol

    this is a dumb design to begin with. the contact point will fail at one point the arc will melt the copper.
