I'm so glad you washed them quickly with water, I always do too. Many people just use a paper towel and brush them off but I have no idea where these things were or who handled them before I got them and I'm definitely not eating something without being washed first. I don't care if they absorb a little water or not, you're going to expel that in the cooking process and a quick wash is better than just wiping them with a damp paper towel or mushroom brush.
Please can you make a video on sponge cake, there are lots of video on utube but I want your recipe because it's very easy to understand, Thank you in anticipation.
Maybe they wash mushrooms in water, Here, we are told mushrooms are like sponges and so never wash them with water. I will seek out a different video. In using mushrooms in homemade soup, I want them coarsely chopped.
Gulsen Bello Liezl Liza Hi guys. Thanks for your comments . yes I know it may look simple, but this video is actually aimed at people wanting to learn basic cooking skills .it is important to repeat simple exercise and know how to use a knife before thinking you are a celebrity chef and cut yourself. Safety first. But if you guys want I can make a faster version of that video. I read all the comment and I don't mind criticism as long as it's constructive. so feel free to comment more. cheers
The French Cooking Academy I must say that i was surprised to get a response to my comment...thanks. OK...my 'useful' comments 1. Camera position....show the action from sides & not just the top 2. work ergonomically...eg the washing bowl could be next to the cutting board. 3. I think...knife safety is common sense & those learning cooking skills should have passed this stage. 4. I not talking about a faster version ...but also not a very slow version. I hope this helps.....good luck & keep up the good work.
Gulsen Bello Thanks for the feedback Gulsen This channel is a work in progress so its always great to get some feedback. I am trying to get some new equipment to allow for better video angles in coming videos and I am taking notes of your comment . appreciated. take care. Roland@The French Cooking Academy

1:18 getting to the point
4:13 Begins to demonstrate how to cut mushrooms. Before that, he is just washing them and discarding some of the stems.
Thanks

Thanks for sharing such cooking basics....nice video
If you add a bit of flour to the water when you wash the mushrooms, the sand falls off really quickly and the mushrooms don't get so soggy.
Really, why?
Love this video, thanks!
thanks Ashley. its a bit an early footage so not the best but I appreciate people liking it. its always motivating. :o)
Thanks for video. Maybe you could have stated what the different slices are used for.
The camera work here is really bad. Need more close up shots of what he's actually doing.
What is the classic French way to fill up a glass of water ?????
never wash mushrooms they have to be brushed clean
You can remove water content by heat... But no amount of heat can't remove grits and soil, just saying.
Dimas Akbar myth busters debunked this. Soaked a bunch of mushrooms overnight, and they gained less than 5% weight...
Thankyou...
Maybe it's because I was born in America that I wish there were more hosts from my country than from any of the many European countries.
What about regular slices?
That’s not French
We all need to grow our own food in our own countries,no more imports.

I know this video is old, but what kind of knives are those?

Please tell me you're not going to waste the mushroom pieces you have discarded!
what would you use them for?
@@sikamikanico04 soup! Chop it finely and add it to meatloaf/meatballs.
Make a mushroom stock of the scraps.
Errr.....Slices?
Way too much waste of product!
Fluorcyl put it in a big ziplock with the rest of your scraps and and use it for stock. No waste.
washing mushroom takes longer time...
Liezl Liza true...I think he is trying to teach 3 year olds..!

I am still learning my knife skills, and I thought this video was great. Knife skills are definitely not common sense for me!
did he just use same paper towel he dry hands with to wipe mushrooms off?
Valeck Verden he was demonstrating a technique over function.
So what?
Too Lengthy Video.
Never wash mushrooms..they are like sponges and soak it all up. There are kitchen brushes for brushing the soil of mushrooms
+iCANNcu Not with this kind of mushrooms. This is not wild mushrooms. It's true they are like sponges and washing has to be fast.
Provide evidence other then that: www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2010/jan/18/should-you-wash-mushrooms
any water they absorb should be cooked out in the pan.... not really an issue.
Mushrooms don't absorb that much water.
Agree.. and then you get a fishy flavor.
The only 2 ways mushrooms are served: cut and uncut !!!
The British don’t pronounce the r, the Americans the t, and the French the l “oiyo”
aw, common chef -at least give us a nice mushroom recipe :D
mztwixed there you go 👨🏻🍳🙂 ua-cam.com/video/G-QFb58RUSU/v-deo.html
