- Presents two contemporary American poets, Robert Duncan and John Wieners. Duncan, who believes his poetry is a product of his environment, appears in his home, where he reads from The architecture, A biographical note, and A statement on poetics. Wieners stands amid the debris of the burned Hotel Wentley in San Francisco, where many of his poems were created, and reads from his poems: A Poem for Painters, and Cocaine.
Wieners never lost that Boston accent, I love how prominent it is when he reads. He sounds like my old Irish Catholic aunts.
I often pass Robert Duncan and Jess's home in the mission in s.f and often wondered what their home look inside and in this docu i can actually get a glimpse of what it looks like so cool!
Thank you so much for uploading this. What a rare gift to see video footage of young Wieners reading his poems. Incredible.
Many thanks for your generous poetry documentary uploads.
Precious document, this is, thank you Cody Carvel.
AMEN
Wow The young John Wieners.
"I study what I write as I study out any mystery. A poem, mine or another's is an occult document, and concerning metaphor, the concepts that to form is to transform (?). Is the magic then, and the metaphor is not a literary device but an actual meaning arising from operating in and leading us to realize the co influence of being in being proceeded form(?) because there are correspondences."
Is this right? Can anyone check this please?
I think it's "...operating in and leading us to realize the co-INHERENCE of being in being, that we PERCEIVE form because there are correspondences."
Is that a Schaeffer fountain pen he's using?
