Should be a little gap between the top piece of panel and the Z galvanized metal.

I've watched thousands of diy UA-cam videos. This is the first UA-camr I've seen admit a mistake and fix it.
I think the point of most coming here is you had the Get -up-and-Go attitude that many dont, thus they are looking at yet another channel to bolster them on. . So any faults or misses should be commented on with respect by people. I applaud you in your efforts in building, planning and doing this DIY for us. Thank you, sir
Looks good. What I did with mine was I primed my T1-11 before I even hung it and cut it. 2 heavy coats. Yes it does drink it up. After that the paint took well

Good catch on the z-flashing. Don't forget to put vertical stud blocking behind the vertical flush butt joints of the gable siding. Sooner than later would be best as the smaller panels will start warping pretty quick.

Primer never seemed important to me, until MDF, once I primed MDF and saw how much less pain It was it convinced me to always prime before I paint, even when it says it is primer and paint together.
You likely have this on your shop "to do" list but when I built my shop.....very much like yours, I installed a gable vent w/exhaust fan on both ends. They made a huge difference in keeping my shop comfortable.
Not too expensive either. Just a thought sir.

Do you see a value in having a fan with reverse airflow as well? So you can get air in but also pishboit when needed?

Looking good! Thanks for posting a video documenting an error...it makes me feel better as I had to cry uncle at a late of finishing my shop build... I wanted to finish it all myself but ended up having to hire someone. Good thing too as I could have caused myself some grief had my last step "gone well"!
I've heard that it's better to install your Z flashing after you install your siding. The reason is because it lets you know how well your ring shank nails hold, it forces you to clean up the inside of your shop by moving stuff out of the way and it gets you out of painting the outside...Nice Job.
Edit: At least some of the painting.

When pouring from a 5gal bucket, pour with the spout at the top instead of the bottom. It'll splash less and usually flow easier. 👍

I've worked with that kind of wood siding. Trying to tear it off after nailing it in place left me feeling like I was on a fool's errand. You almost always damage it. A less-thorough fix for your oversight: make sure the seam is open at least, say, a thirty-second (use an oscillating plunge blade if necessary) and work some good quality paintable caulk into the crack. You could use painter's tape to confine the caulk to a narrow strip. Not as good as the Z-flashing, admittedly, but much easier. Just a thought. Good videos.

If you overhung the roof, you wouldn't need any z-flashing, as no rain would be able to get in there
Thanks for mentioning that. I am building my shed now, roof is done and siding is up. Didn't know about this z-flashing issue. Luckily, I overhung the roof all the way around the building.
Glad you guys have the trailer move and septic handled... Now about that greenhouse and the soap shed. The shed for $400 - great... now about that green house, chicken ranch house, sheep shed, plant extraction and fence extraction, blah blah --- how ya doin??. Looking great .. considering how much work you're doing "off camera"!

You could have taken a 1x4 and bevel the top about 25 degrees for water to drain off and caulked the seam.

Dude that looks like it really sucked but as you said live and learn. Also just in case no one has told you you're one lucky guy to have a wife that loves you enough to paint your shop for you. She's a keeper for sure.

LOL I was watching that video and I said ohh he's not using z flashing. Then I thought you weren't done and cover the seem with apron. It's all good you figured it out.
Perhaps I am dense but what is the benefit of Z flash in this situation? Normally Z flash would be used over top sheathing and house wrap so if water got behind the siding it couldn't keep working it's way down, it would find it's way out. This siding is also the sheathing so there is no rain screen behind it. I suppose it would prevent wind driven rain from going into the structure.
It helps to prevent water from going inside the wall at the seam of the two panels.
Just for your viewers. I helped friends build a couple small cottages to rent out by the night. They had t-111siding. They stained the underlapping and overlapping edges only before we nailed them up so that they would be sealed first, then they stained the rest after the walls were up.
Gotta love a man who can admit he was wrong! Way to go!
Sam don't put trim over the Z-flashing it will trap water. Even if you caulk it the caulking after a few years will crack and water will find its way under and start to rot the T-111.

That’s the reason I mentioned it Sam …..I learned by mistakes over the years this was one of them. Someone mentioned an apron but over time the caulk degenerates and moisture infiltrates especially in the groves on T-1-11
Another reason to use self tapping exterior torx bit screws! Great video! As I mentioned in the previous video comments, if you left an overhang on the sides it probably wouldn't matter.

No expert here just a question. Would it been better to use a primer then a top coat? My siding was pre primed and the top coat was a breeze thus why I ask. Looking forward to your next video, keep up the good work!

A good reason to use screws instead of nails.
I use those every time I put up siding like that and did not even notice that you did not use it lol to error is human. I think that's how it said lol. Even the pros make mistakes no one is perfect keep up the great work
Glad I didn't say anything about the flashing...! Stupid stuff 🙄 happens.
I just butt the sheets up and insert an 8d nail between the sheets to create a small consistent gap. Then, I caulk that gap with a high-grade polyurethane-based caulking like Quad or DAP Amp. All sealed up, then prime and paint 2 coats. That flashing will create a ledge for water to sit. And it looks bad in multi-sheet installations, and you have to caulk the ends of the flashing anyway. Just fit your pieces accurately, leave a 1/16" gap for good caulk, and prime and paint well. . Sorry you had to go through all that.
Second mistake , failed to seal the back and edges, especially the bottom edge of the T1-11 including the bottom edge of the upper piece, it will soak up water and rot. that stuff is ok for desert but everywhere else it is temporary 5-15 years is all you will get.
Do you put z flashing at the bottom of the lowest siding, where the siding has the dirt below it?

Hey Sam, there's not one of us who hasn't had brain farts from time to time. They are one of my skills. It was a pain to go back and retro fit but you've got a water tight sawdust ship now!

Don't sweat it. We all screw up. If you aren't screwing up something from time to time you aren't doing anything. You fix it and move on simple as that. Bet you won't forget next time...
dead blow hammer and a beater block or a 2x6 as rat run sliding across the truss bottom cord would pop that gable siding like a spam can .sliding the 2x6 gives it a direct large blow enough out to slip a sawzall blade in and a few wedges and no damage to siding
At least it was fixable and you didn't have to start from scratch. Better to realize early on.
Amazon sells a baseboard puller that would have been ideal for this task.
My wife was watching greenacrehomestead because we fixing to completely remodel a double wide. And I thought to myself. I think I’ve seen that guy before. Went to your website. And saw the coasters. And thought man those look familiar. Then came and searched and yup it sure enough was you lol.

They're the HDX branded ones, black base, clear lid, orange latches. They come two in a pack for about $15 (last I bought them). I really like them the best!

Just wondering about moisture ingress. When ever I see play board builds they wrap everything in tyvek (or similar) membranes. Then apply cladding external. Here you’ve screwed directly to you frame and have just ply skin and paint.
Also under the rafter there’s a void will you block oit and make air tight or will you keep open - atm it must be freezer like inside.
I've just always caulked the seam instead of using Z-Flashing and it worked okay, But that makes sense why you would use that. I'll probably start using it now that I watched this video. Thanks

I don't know if my model is still sold, but here it is. This is a very strong ladder! I've had it for about 4-5 years and used it a lot. I'm sure there's a newer model by now, but I'd highly recommend it! amzn.to/3PymzZZ
On my new 12x24 shop, I used vinyl siding. My house is near 50 years old and it is covered with vinyl siding but originally, T-111. When I built my new shop last year, I used OSB sheathing. When the walls went down, under the wall seals, I used a heavy bead of constructive adhesive as well as the bottom of all OSB siding. This will keep the bugs out of the building. Your building looks nice although it will be like mine very quick. Too damn full. Space is a premium for sure.
We are all human Sam. The important thing is we all learn from mistakes. Yup brushing stinks. I'm doing all of ours by hand before we put them up. I do the seams first then roll it. Two coats for each. 14x70 mobile home. It's alot of work. I feel your pain my friends.

Already been mentioned but make sure that you paint the bottom and the top of all t 111 actually doesn't hurt paint all four inches when water is running down it will trip over the bottom Edge suck up inside it and your t11 will start to pull out from the bottom also includes some screws along with your ring shanks

“That’s people” I hear you on that one. I posted a mistake I made using a planer and almost lost a finger and I wanted everyone to know what not to do and yeah I got some hateful comments, but hey whatever. We here in Alabama call this rat poison and we love it.

An oscillating tool with a blade that can cut nails would have made it easier and saved damaging the T-111. Measure where the nails are on the outside and mark on the inside, or just move the tool at an angle to find the next nail. Good catch and good job to fix the oversight. We all make mistakes and miss things. It's how we admit and fix that makes a difference. Stand up job.
Nice job on the z flashing. You will not regret all the effort and work. Agree on the paint sprayer. I have done T 111 by hand. Not a fun task.

When I have built sheds in the past, I always stain the exterior instead of painting. Never chips off and pretty much lasts forever.
Sam it means nothing at this point but maybe vinyl siding may have been the better option? I dont know.

If I was close Sam I have 4 handheld paint sprayer like you was using 2 graco professional airless spray systems and 2 hvlp spray units plus air guns and compressor units I haven’t used in years.
