That depends on how what qualifies as a unique move. for example, is gxf6 en passant different than regular gxf6? on that note, is gxf6 different than exf6? if you’re going to argue that the capturing pawn’s file needs to be specified then i would argue that a move like Ngd7 also needs a separate shirt from regular Nd7, raxb1 different than rb1, and q6f5+ different from qf5+. having additional shirts for these would be completely extraneous. I think it makes more sense to give only a unique shirt to each possible move without considering where the piece happens to be migrating from. thus the calculation is quite simple: R,N,B,Q,K five pieces that can move to each of 64 squares = 320 possibilities. another 320 for when that move is a capture to add the “x.” pawns can also move or capture on any of the 64 squares, making another 128 shirts. again, this is assuming that the pawn isn’t specified, rather the shirt says e.g. pb4 or pxb4. also, the sixteen possible queening squares (32 when you add in the capture possibilities) need to be made in quadruplicate to represent the four possible promotion opportunities. this is 128, but we must subtract these 32 from the original 128 before adding them back, thus the sum is 324 in addition to our initial 640, ergo agad has 964 t shirts.

Hi Agad, wrong game and PGN in the description, that's the "Duda, Jan-Krzysztof (3035) - Erigaisi Arjun (3073)" game
I bet he has a t-shirt for every possible move in chess lol
This is true
@@agadmator Can anyone calculate how many shirts he has?
Pawn moves:
8 non-capture pawn promotions * 4 promotion options (=QRBN) * 3 checking states (no check, check, mate) = 96
14 capture pawn promotions * 4 promotion options * 3 checking states = 168
8 files to advance pawns * 5 non-promoting ranks (34567) * 3 checking states = 120
14 pawn captures per rank * 5 non-promoting ranks * 3 checking states = 210
Total: 594
Piece moves:
64 squares * 2 capturing states * 3 checking states * 5 pieces (KQRBN) = 1920
2 castling moves * 3 checking states = 6
Total: 1,926
so preliminary total 2,520
however if he also has shirts for Rdd2, R4d2, Rd4d2, etc then it's quite a few more and quite a pain to calculate (eg bishop moves into the corner are never ambiguous, while knight moves into the corner may need a rank or file but not both)
Additional rook moves:
64 squares * 7 origin files * 3 checking states = 1344
64 squares * 7 origin ranks * 3 checking states = 1344
64 squares * 14 origin squares * 3 checking states = 2688

64 squares * 7 origin files * 3 checking states = 1344
64 squares * 7 origin ranks * 3 checking states = 1344
28 edqe squares * 21 origin squares * 3 checking states = 1764
20 2nd rank loop squares * 23 origin squares * 3 checking states = 1380
12 3rd rank loop squares * 25 origin squares * 3 checking states = 900
4 center squares * 27 origin squares * 3 checking states = 324
Total: 7056
Additional bishop moves:
corner doesn't need specification
edge of the board can always be specified with just rank or file (eg a bishop on a4 can be described by origin rank alone)
48 non-a/b-file-squares * 7 origin files * 3 checking states = 1008
48 non-1/8-rank-squares * 7 origin ranks * 3 checking states = 1008

12 3rd rank loop squares * 11 origin squares * 3 checking states = 396
4 center squares * 15 origin squares * 3 checking states = 180
Total: 2952
Additional knight moves:
8 squares per file * 2 rook files * 2 origin files * 3 checking states = 96
8 squares per rank * 2 promotion ranks * 2 origin ranks * 3 checking states = 96
assuming we don't want to count duplicate ways of naming the same move we need to remove a few
minus 4 corners where only rank or file needs to be specified * 3 checking states = (-12)
8 squares per file * 2 knight files * 3 origin files * 3 checking states = 144
8 squares per rank * 2 pawn ranks * 3 origin ranks * 3 checking states = 144
16 central squares * 4 origin ranks * 3 checking states = 192
16 central squares * 4 origin files * 3 checking states = 192
corners don't need both rank and file
adjacent (eg a2, b1) to corners also don't need both rank and file
20 1st rank ring squares (including corners of 2nd rank ring) * 4 origin squares * 3 checking states = 240
12 2nd rank ring squares (excluding corners of 2nd rank ring) * 6 origin squares * 3 checking states = 216
16 central squares * 8 origin squares * 3 checking states = 384
