We take the kids on a back to school supplies shopping haul! The elementary competes to see if they can stay on track, but it gets a little crazy shopping for 3 different schools. The kids are so nervous but also excited to go back to school.

Hey Aaron, the "ball" that fell off Aurora's pen was a silicone cover to prevent the pen drying out. They're a feature of retractable pens since they don't have a lid.
One of my best friends just retired from teaching. Other teachers are begging her to sub for them this year. It is so hard for her to say no. She went way beyond for her students. I went shopping with her a few times to get things for the new school year. I was shocked when I found out how much she spent every year for things for her class. She made sure every student had supplies even if they couldn't afford anything. And she didn't get anything cheap so those kids wouldn't feel left out. She taught 4th and 5th grade for over 30 years. She is an amazing person. We run into her former students all the time. They just love her.
Yep every year I buy sneakers & water bottles for my students. It takes a village!

You should do like the Middles did and reuse backpacks, anything left over from previous years. We have 8 kids and when school got out everything left over was put in a tote and saved for the next year. Also any back packs in good condition, pencil pouches, scissors, rulers, etc. Saves a lot of money.
My mom always used our left over school supplies to stock our desk the next year, except the crayons we used those to color with on rainy days during the summer. Our old school bag became our overnight bag for when we spent the night with someone or went on a short trip.
I am going to start my 33 year of teaching this school year and I so appreciate your shout out to teachers every year Crystal! I means so much. My school PTA works with a school supply company and each grade level has a supply list that the company has and delivers prepaid boxes labeled with kids names and grade to the school so that the parents don't have to worry about going out shopping. About 75% of the families take advantage of this offer. They also order extra boxes for each grade level for families that are financially unable to get school supplies. Again love seeing Max, Hannah, and Tristen along for the ride to help out. 😃

I’m crying at “someone’s mom said no” me and my kids used to say this when they were younger 😂 I miss those days 😢 I’ve one in university and one working. I didn’t realise I’d miss these things now
I was a teacher for 27 years at a school with the highest percentage of at risk kids in our town. I had a tall cabinet in my classroom with any supply a student would need, which was paid for with my own money. It was a lot, but worth it to see the kids' faces light up when they picked their supplies out of my cabinet.

My high school students inspire me each and every day- it’s worth the money I put into my classroom. I want kids to come to school with everything they need so worries are erased and their minds are ready to learn. ❤

My husband and I were thought a very hard time with trying to pay for our kids going back to school one year. That principle of our children school said not worries.Your kids are gonna be taken care of.❤ THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING children in need.😊

I love what your family does for foster care kids. I use to be one a long time ago. Teachers definitely deserve the respect and regonazation. My favorite teacher from preschool through college was/is my fourth grade teacher. We still talk to this day.

Right it's awesome wat they do to give back. I am disappointed in our school systems tho. I hate that parents have to buy so many items. Considering how much we pay in school taxes. Schools should provide a lot more back to school things. Such as pencil. Eraser. Sharpener. Incentives. An a bunch of other items. 😢

I want to wish the best of luck to the kids this new school year. Watching Savanna (sp) and Bella made me remember my school days. I went half days to high school my senior year and half to beauty school. I am really excited for Savanna. I had so much fun when I went.
Our elementary school has a pre-order package we can order for the next year. When school starts you can just pick up your "suitcase" type box. Everything you need is included. Saved a lot of shopping and worry when things are sold out.
They have so much cool stuff these days. When I was in school they barely had colorful as in Pink, Teal, Lavender folders lol. Red, Green, Blue and Yellow were the primary colors we got to choose from. Especially in middle school. In high school things started coming out but by then I didn't need all the cutsie stuff they have now. Bella cracks me up. She was so right.
Cute stuff was just becoming a thing when I started teaching. I had to go to the capital city of our state to a speciality shop. I had so much cute stationery for my first office 😊

@AmandaE24 Yes, it did cost more. But, I still have the two cute jars that held colourful paper clips, and colourful thumb tacks, 40 years later. After 4 years of study at an institution which the locals called, "the Brain Drain", I had earned it.

I'm a school bus driver and I have students asking for pencils or pens quite often. Great idea to get some that they can grab if needed. And treats, I buy quite a bit through the year 🎉

i remember when i was a low income kid and me and my siblings were able to pick our backpacks and it was full of stuff for school it was amazing ❤ thank you for your generosity it really helps so much. i was also a foster kid.. so to see what you do for these kids is amazing.
As a foster kid the backpacks help so much. My foster mom does a ton of free back to school stuff in our town because it can get expensive especially for those who can't afford it.

My son is in 10th grade and he never liked shopping. We always just bought the supplies through PTO. Saved time, they got a portion of the profits. They would be delivered directly to the students desk on meet the teacher day. The middle school one was delivered to your house. It's been such a change having to shop for High school now.
Crystal take a picture of the list this year and make a copy tack it to your wall and next year when school rolls around you’ll know what to pick up. I did that and I was always ahead of the game. The list rarely changes from year to year for that grade . Say make copy of evies for aurora next year same with the other grades.

OH WOW! I haven’t seen more than 2 people, being able to sit, in the front seat, since the 1960’s. In the 50’s and early 60’s. When I was a kid, we had 6 adults, and 3 kids would sit in our car, sometimes. My siblings, and I were in our single digits. But still 6 Adults in a car! Three in the front seat, and 3 in the back seat, with a kid on their lap. And there weren’t freeways back then, like there is now. So, it took a long time to go on family outings. Without Air Conditioning! 🤣😂

Used to stock up on school supplies for the whole year. My last 2 granddaughters r a senior & junior this year.,I never used tax off days , just wasn’t worth to fight the aisles at Walmart. Working at Walmart as a cashier was easier for me on supplies. I could buy on a daily’ basis.can remember when u & Shelly had 15 kids to buy for & now it’s, 9 & 10 Aurora did a good job. ❤❤❤❤❤

I actually used a rocketbook in my school time. I would recommend it, if you name your notes with a standard like Year_month_day_class-Title. You should start to scan every other day. Like once or twice a week, you can also implement it in your learning routine like. I read it a day or two later to learn it, after I learned it i scan it and then clean the page. I would also recommend that you take care that there is no water able to get to the notebook, so nothing gets erased before scanning.

There is a church in my town that donates school supplies to ALL elementary students. No matter the financial situation.
I had a college professor that said you need a basic pencil pouch with the following:
Tape, scissors, glue stick, white out, colored pencils, sharpener, highlighters, pens,pencils,erasers, stapler & staples and maybe paper clips
Tristan would make an amazing dad, & or uncle!!!

I had that rocket book when I was in college. It definitely helped me with notes especially how I could take a picture of my notes and store it in my phone

Our school has the class supply lists listed on the school website. That's crazy that they don't give it to you until the first day of school.
My church donates school supplies to a couple of elementary schools near our church. We also donate backpacks with supplies to a homeless family program, Family Promise, thats available in our area.
I’m in college but when I was in middle school and high school I used an accordion folder and you can just carry it for school. The accordion folder has different tabs so you can put the names of classes on each tab then put all the papers from whatever class in that tab

I was realy bad in it. I didn't have structure and motivation. I did have a horse and I was always in the stable.I just remember what the teacher told us and I get away with it by getting 7 or 9.3 out of 10 and scores like that...
My oldest is going to have homework for the first time. Her executive functions are not so strong and I struggle with that myself. I don't know how to gide homework...

As a teacher, we do sometimes buy supplies as needed...not everything is in stock, but I love my job. 4 year olds....
In S.A. we call preschool...3 months till 5 years,
then Gr0,(at primary school)then primary school Gr1 to Gr7, high school Gr8 to Gr12
Our parents went to school with a pencil and notebook, nowadays it cost an astronomical amount of money to send a child to school. That's not even counting lunch $.
In my day we needed school supplies but not like nowadays. I thought schools send out generic boxes that parents can buy that way no kid is left behind sorta deal?

Me and my grandma buy school supplies for the Stuff the bus school supply drive every year. We just pick up a few things throughout the year. I'm a preschool paraprofessional and I absolutely love my job

Some of our stores have ready made school packages for various grades. Everything from each list is packaged a d priced so parents don’t have to run around to find all the supplies.
