Even before the last battle, when they both meet to talk. He knew Spartacus's cause was just, to fight against slavery and Roman's oppression.
      Crassus shakes his hand
Spartacus: There is no justice, not in this world.
Crassus: At last, a thing we agree upon.
Spartacus: When we again meet, I'll kill you.
Crassus: No, you are going to try.
Spartacus: It is all a free man can do.

Honestly, Liam was not on Andy's level in Vengeance, but that is understandable given his relative lack of experience, and having to fit in with established characters, writers, and setting. When everything got changed up for War of the Damned he really grew into the character. I would have loved to have seen another season between V and WOTD, or at least stretching the last season out to 13 episodes like the first, to better tell the second half of the story.

Well, to be fair. The real Spartacus wasn't exactly the freedom fighter from the legends. Yes he freed slaves, yes he rallied them. But he committed atrocities against the Roman people that weren't a testament of great morals. And considering what he did with his armies, liberation of the enslaved wasn't the main goal. It seemed more like he was a man unleashed.
An icon, later on of course, given how freeing slaves is an objectively right thing. But not a saint. :O

I really love the climax of their conflict. Crassus had that move in his pocket, it was foreshadowed in advance and implied that it was so bold and unpredictable that even a champion gladiator couldn’t see it coming. And he pulled it on a Spartacus that was half dead on his feet… but then our boy just doesn’t even hesitate and hits him with a straight up uno reverse on reverse, and that look on his face just says “dude, I’m not playing around here.” It’s incredible and heart wrenching to see this be the moment where our MC finally has to go down, but truth is this is the best we could get from a historical fiction standpoint. But still, Spartacus won this fight, driven by pure vengeance and rage, and at the last second, still fighting prowess and genius, manifested through a hellish gauntlet of nonstop impossible combat experience. Marcus may have walked away from the fight, but he will never be able to scrub that shit stain from his drawers.

Incorrect Richard. He did indeed face Crassus on the battlefield. He and Crixus did indeed split forces. And both fought bravely till being beaten by superior numbers. Crassus was killed many uears later after a falling out with Pompei and the senate about attacking the Parthians. The Parthians offered Crassus a sit down talk, on way to said meeting one of Crassus men suspected ambush grabbed Crassus horse by the bridle and caused a fight with the Parthians. They killed the Roman Party including Crassus and poured molten gold down his throat as a symbol of his greed of wealth. Although not entirety accurate. Spartacus remains a good account the time back then. Amd was historically accurate mostly.

I like how for Agron and the other slaves in the area, Spartacus's life was so much more important than Crassus's that they didn't even bother to kill Crassus - Agron just knocked him away as if he was just an insignificant lowlife, and it's as if he was so worthless to Agron and the other slaves in the area that they wouldn't spend [any of the time that they could spend staying with Spartacus during his (almost certain to be) final moments in life] to kill him.
And all this is true while Crassus was at the time the most powerful and wealthy individual of the mighty Roman Republic, and Spartacus was seen by most of his contemporaries as little more than a dangerous slave who lead a failed rebellion - people didn't even know his original name.
This to me shows the worthlessness of worldly power and fame in face of true heroism and righteousness. I was so moved and inspired by this scene.

*(Deep breath)* This is by far one of my favorite clashes in cinema, We have Crassus while a archetype of Roman virtues and arrogance, is an exception to the rule and doesn't dismiss anyone, barring the roman nobles for being cliche reasons, out of hand as inferior, and holds the most respect for the man terrorizing Rome, part in it gives him the military campaign he needs to win in order to further his political ambitions, as to be a member of the senate, or at least a notable ranked member, you have to have won a great campaign against Roman enemies, and he can drive up prices on grain and housing over the guerllia campaign the last slave rebels have done in the third Servile war to scare the plebs and nobility while damaging farms and crops.
He had to respect Spartacus here from a military standpoint as the man had done what neither of the two previous slave rebellion leaders accomplished in defeating not one, but two proper roman armies consecutively, and at their finale confrontation after being beaten more than fairly was willing to accept his death at the hands of a proper and superior opponent, before having it spared, his feelings of relief at his life being his again quashed as he and spartacus realize, a great man, possibly the greatest at the time having his life snuffed out from a group of spears to the back, which was shown as a sign of a weak death, I'm sure some people are screeching about Ceaser, but he was just starting his military and political career at the time, and didn't overcome a challenge of uniting a group of slaves from all over Europe *who absolutely hated each other* over cultural and geographical lines like a klansman and a rapper would go at each other at first sight, into a force trained and disciplined enough to overcome two legions and muilitople other smaller groups of roman soldiers and militia.
fantasy characters done with though, if anyone who would have likely mad the conversational and admireational last words Crassus did, it would have been Ceaser more than him, Ceaser as we all likely know, had Little to no care for the trappings and traditions of roman aristocracy and would have likely taken Spartacus into his household, over his skill at arms, reputation, and adoration from the masses, if the situation allowed for it prior to the third servile war starting.

But to the matter at hand. Liam did an absolutely great job as a leader. I must say, that Andy did far better in those emotional, pure rage and sorrow moments, but Liam looks to me as far better at the role of leader. I simply didn´t see it the same with Andy, but then again, he didn´t have that many opportunities to show it.

Crassus was a great character. I like it when the bad guy has some honor.
