Andy Whitfield was a natural in this role but I think not enough credit is given to Liam McIntyre, he had such big shoes to fill, but he did it greatly

Rage and anger got him there, but then he had lives under his command and his perspective shifted... It wasn't just about him anymore, it was about slavery itself and making a better world for his followers.
When Spartacus looked him in the eyes up close and said, "One day, I will have your life." He said it with so much confidence and certainty talking to a Praetor that made it one of the coldest lines in all of the seasons.
Glaber batiatus and caesar all had evil intentions and knew they were corrupted, crassus was the only one that truly respected spartacus and understood him, and also had good intentions in stopping spartacus
@@enriquecolin28 Crassus did put up a really good fight and Spartacus was struggling against him. After all, Crassus was eventually able to defeat a champion of the arena. For an imperator (who historically sucked at combat) he was pretty good. Glabber was a man lost in a world that wasn't for him. I kinda pitied him in a way. Politics is not his forte. I didn't think he was evil, more like desperate. As for Batiatus, I don't fault him either. He was always just doing his job as a Dominus and Lanista. And yeah, sometimes you gotta make crap decisions to keep the business afloat. Way of the world. Even today.

No matter how hard he worked, he was always getting belittled, always told he was nothing, a father-in-law that hated his guts, a wife willing to kill his unborn child AND leaving him, meaning it will also cost him his job. Eventually he just had enough and he snapped. I think a lot of people in his position would snap. He was constantly being kicked, beaten and spat upon by the very people who were supposed to have his back. Sad story, really.
Not true Go and read the whole story and follow the documentary. After Spartacus died, all the slave rebellions were caught and crucified on all the streets of Rome and that ended the rising of any group of rebellions against the republic. And that ends it. What will be the continuation when the whole series was cast on an existing story to it's end?
I'm not sure how they could possibly continue it. Since everything revolves around the rebellion, and afterwards nearly everyone dies But yeah, I'd love to watch more too

One of my favorite shows ever !! Right up there with GOT, Banshee, Warrior, The Punisher, Daredevil, Reacher and The Terminal List to name a bunch off the top of my head.

Loved when Illithya came back and acknoledge indeed it would have been meaningless to kill her due to situation and she cries. Andy was indeed done for this role but Liam did amazing job i believe it is just hard to really replace. The cast is wonderfull and you feel the synergie on videos and picture thats why i really got attached to spartacus and vikings feel same vibes
Well, the Romans did have the (nearly) Indomitable Egyptian giant on their side - seen about half-way thru - tho he'd somehow vanished by the end of the fight...did he fall thru a plot hole?
@@vincentvalentine6547 Yes, I know - that, coupled with the fact that he'd be the LAST guy to run from a fight, made me wonder where he disappeared to in THIS scene...hence the "plot hole" reference. He did die well, tho, didn't he? ;D
@Ross good point... I think they deliberately made that plot hole to allow Spartacus & co to escape. Because if the Egyptian was in the fight they would've had to kill his character... too early for that, and they already gave us enough drama for this episode.

I really appreciate this scene from a writing point of view. When having the villain and hero fight before the final climax you have to be careful to make sure the Hero doesn't beat the villain otherwise it doesn't have as much impact when the hero beats him again, in the final. Now there's a problem when you have the champion of the arena duel a glorified pencil pusher, the villain. Even though Glaber is a soldier he's just not the same caliber as Spartacus in swordsmanship. What's cool about this scene is that Spartacus does actually outmatch Glaber in the duel but Glaber doesn't lose power status because of his cunning. He was willing to sacrifice the life of his wife to kill his enemy and it did manage to put Spartacus on the run. It manages to showcase Glaber's cunning and ruthlessness, maintaining his position as a competent villain while still respecting Spartacus' superior fighting skill. A weaker writer would have just had Glaber equal Spartacus in dueling ability (which wouldn't have made sense) or have glaber outright lose and have to retreat, which would have undermined his villain status. The witers really knew what they were doing with this show, hats off to them. Except for how they killed off Asher, that was completely ridiculous.
I'm good at suspension of disbelief but the one part of this show that always bugged me is how they made that Arab looking guy with the ponytail that Glaber took out of the pit S tier badass but he's only got weapons shorter than a dirk. Literally any semi experienced swordsman would EASILY kill him if he had those 6 in blades. For one you can't block with them against a sword or any long heavy-ish weapon unless you're maybe Mr Universe level of strength. Give him a short sword and the little dagger not two little curved daggers. How would he block a leg attack for instance. Just think that out in your head how that would play out in real life. But other than that I LOVE this show. It's one of the best dude shows ever made. My short list of my favorite dude shows real quick for anyone who hans't seen one of them and needs a good exciting show to watch... This show and the prequel God of the Arena. He got the credit. People had to warm up to the change. Andy was Spartacus for the first part. This gentleman was Spartacus for the 2nd part.
Liam failed to capture the emotion of pure rage and anger. This is why, in my opinion, he was inferior in the role
