Never get board watching your magic 🪄 my man !!…. I’m 57 and been watching you for a few years ….. I am back on my 74 nova and finally tackling putting in a rear frame rail and floor section … rocking my flux core Canadian tire moto master mig welder … does the trick 👍🏻
I started a similar project back in 2006 with left over parts from my from my grandfather's 1935 Oldsmobile 4 door sedan. Granddad cut the body off at the A pillars in the 1950s, attached a wooden tilt box to the frame and added an egg crate for the seat. We hauled grain from the combine to the barn with it for years and years. In the 1980s I gathered enough Olds parts cars to restore a sedan in tribute to his memory. I had numerous body parts left over and thought it would be great to have a pickup truck to haul my son's racing Go-kart. With the help of a local fabricator I had the back section of a 47 Ford pickup merged with an 35 Olds roof and Granddad's original firewall . We even took a number of rotten doors and made an "Olds" rear window and beltline. It astounds me how similar our projects are however your skills far exceed our level of workmanship. The point of my story is you have inspired me to get back at the project after a long hiatus. Thanks for the videos! Please keep them coming.
I was at the Dartmouth Princess Auto today and picked up a mushroom dolly on sale for 12 bucks and went I left I got my usual laugh on my way back to my car. Saturday afternoon there has to be 50 women in that parking lot, all sittin' waiting for their husbands. Some are knitting, some are on their phones and some are just sitting there with a look of despair on their faces. I first notices it back in the days of the very first store down the road, before it expanded, and since then it's become local slang for female-rich soil..."There;s more women in that bar than the Princess Auto parking lot on a Saturday afternoon." Thanks for the vids Newf, you tot me lots!
Lol. Its the Walmart for men. Funny you say this was only in ours two days ago. Girlfriend came in and I tell you see wanted out as quick as possible. Lol
don't know how you have the time to film and build? I tried to make a few auto repair vids but turned out really bad, took forever. Never posted. Keep up to fantastic work. Love watching your build, tips, tricks.
I'm glad i found your videos, this stuff is right sown my alley. I enjoy learning new tips and ideas. I'm thinking you amaze yourself of the final product sometimes lol. I know I do.
Amazing work Fitzee! I just tried your Patch/Tack/Cut/Weld-in technique and it worked great. I got some warping because I was too impatient / excited but will learn to use that air gun more liberally going forward. Thanks for sharing your substantial knowledge and experience.
I am in the middle of doing a restomod of a 1964 Kaiser M151. The project had stalled for quite a while while I studied body work -- I've never done any fabrication beyond silly brackets and the like. I have logged countless hours on UA-cam, literally watching over a 100 videos (conservatively) to find something that made sense. Most people are purists and want to bang the perfect panel from a virgin sheet of metal. I "found" this video and realized the most complicated section of work I need to do is very similar to this stamped firewall panel you worked on. The way you methodically showed how you remade this piece from bits and pieces, and how it all comes together in the end made so much sense. I don't have the patience to be "professional" and beat on a piece of metal until its perfect. I've had an epiphany. I have finally made progress, after a whole year of sitting on my hands. Now I feel like I can do almost everything I need done on this jeep. Kudos to you and remember you are helping people like me enjoy this "hobby." Your recent growth is well deserved.
Brant Kelsey same for me! He’s giving me the confidence to start in on my k10 metal work. One of the upsides to being stuck at home is learning a new skill! Be well and have fun with your jeep!
dedication to the work, this is not for the feint hearted. Love the techniques to do those patch panels, interesting idea, I would not have thought of that. I have only just started trying to weld to be fair. Good work
I am going to try to make the bead in one piece using a bead roller. Don't know if it is possible but I would like to make it were it comes together. Nice work. I have watched this three times.
I'm puzzled. I see you welding with only clear glasses and no gloves at times. I thought both were needed, especially the welding helmet with a darkening shade. By the way......I just love watching you solve problems, one after another.
what do you have your heat set on? I tried the way you showed how to butt weld in the gas door on a roof section and got some warping. and if you cannot get to the back side to get the metal piece out I guess use magnets to hold it in place after cutting for the new piece of metal. Thanks
You welded too much. Trick is to move your spot welds around. Cool then down till you can touch with your bare hand before welding agian. My settings are high. I like lots of heat. Want to penetrate the panel. And yes can't get at the back. Cut to fit.
Like he was saying if you rewatch that video, he never wears gloves when he's doing that door. At times he tacks a weld and touches it almost immediately after that. So yeah I would agree with him that you are getting too much heat in the metal, do one tack and move to the opposite side of the panel. And keep moving like your tightening down your wheels on your car, always opposite each other.
Fitzee I think watching you work is where Johnny Cash got the idea of his song One Piece at a Time .. if anyone could build his car in the song it would be you .. Another Great Video thumbs up .. Is there a job / car that you built that started with less then Patches ?
How in the world do you have any eye sight left? I watched and I didn't even see you try to close your eyes when welding. However even trying to close your eye still allows UV rays to get through to the corneas. I like your project and how you do things, but I can't understand how you can still see anything. IDK...
Aren't you worried about the "plugs" you made for the firewall not being water proof? I agree that they help make the firewall look factory, but I like to wash my engine bay every once in a while. I suppose you could run some RTV around them on the interior side. Love the videos and I'm learning lots. Thank you for making them!
what are your eyes made of ? Ive watched you weld a copple of times now and just thought you closed your eyes but with this demonstration I see you don't close your eyes HOW DO YOU DO THAT? please tell us your magic
@@fitzeesfabrications That is interesting. I have not welded since High School and that was oxy acetylene. With my current projects more robust welding techniques would benefit me better. Watching you has taught me a lot. Now I just need to get me a welding unit and put my hand to the task so as to learn and perfect a new skill. Some day when all this travel bans and stuff are over I would love to do a joint collaborative episode with you for my channel. Cheers Mate.
Love your videos. Just one small bit of constructive criticism. Your music is too loud while you are grinding and Welding. When you're talkin I have to turn the volume way up to hear you and then when you're welding I have to turn the music volume way down because it's loud. Other than that I love your video thank you for sharing
Can i ask what your machine settings are for Volts and Wire Speed? I realize they are only tacks, but do you like to set hotter than the gauge would call for? Oops Sorry! i just read the comment further down! All good now!
How do you manage to weld things up without at least closing your eyes? I only ever tried that once and learned a valuable lesson. I’m now a welder by trade and still manage to get some good arc flashing occasionally, even with all the PPE I’m required to wear. Anyways...if it works for you keep on keeping on. Amazing work sir, and you’ve shown me things I’ve never seen or even thought of. Inspirational videos for sure.
Absolutely love the channel, but I have to say this video wasn’t as good as the rest. Ya cut out the two most complicated parts. I was hoping to see you form the “T” section of the bead. Also, I’ve watched (and enjoyed watching) you “cut and butt” flat/crowned pieces a bunch of times, so I was looking forward to seeing how you went up and over the bead where they terminated at the bottom. Sorry to gripe on my first post. I really do love the channel!!

I was thinking the same thing. I have over 22 years of welding under my belt, several flash burns doing that, and finally cataract surgery to prove it. I went from 20/15 vision to trifocals and I'm not even 60 yet. I can see without glasses from a distance since the corrective artificial lenses, but nothing beats one's natural vision which is a precious gift from God.
@@cecilnesbitt8197 I asked him once if he just closed his eyes. He said no. He claims that the way he hold his torch blocks the flash. Says he's been doing it that way for years. I know several guys that got flashed by the reflection. I also love this channel. In 6 months of watching, I've saved more than the cost of my Hobart 140.
He's hiding the arc behind the gas nozzle. You can do that when you're a stud (watch his face and you'll see his eyes are in the shadow of the arc. That's experience.) I worry more about those old lungs. I know what it's like to hawk up black gobs in the shower after messing with an angle grinder for an hour. Respirators suck but even wearing once once in a while helps.
