  • Опубліковано 23 лип 2022
  • Since 2012, visitors have scoured Block Island, off the coast of Rhode Island, in search of hidden treasure: hand-blown glass orbs. Correspondent Martha Teichner talks to glass artists Eben Horton and Jennifer Nauck, who create the delicate prizes, and joins other "orbivores" (orb hunters) on the prowl. (Originally broadcast on February 6, 2022.)

I am now on the west coast in the PNW and we actually find what are called "Japanese" fishing globes on our beaches. I don't know the breakdown but I would say half of them are newly fabricated and sold in shops for the tourists, often tumbled and rubbed to give them that patina of floating around in the ocean for decades.. but some are genuine and you can usually tell.
To me the orbs are like four leaf clovers or Easter eggs or even sea shells. It doesn't count if you purchase them in a gift shop but when you're out in nature looking about and you see a little nugget ... Joy like a child on Christmas morning!

Tearing up the trail should be prohibited. What do they do when they smack a Bush and a float falls out and breaks. . Not cool. Pack in pack out and stay on the trails. Habitats depend on it.
Neat story despite that . :)
