Hi Robert, I have used the same method for many years on knives and broadheads. I grew up around commercial fishermen and cannery workers. They all used simple carbon steel knives and steel rods for sharpening. It is fast, and very sharp! Many butchers use the same method. I tried a jig but I get better results freehand.
Thanks Robert for the great info, yes simple but that's what it's about like the old saying if it works why try to fix it. Hope you have a enjoyable hunting season. .
I've got a 3 sided jewel stick that has the course, medium and fine on one stick and love it. I've also got a rada which will also get a quick edge on a broadhead. Good video and good luck this season!
Great video. 👍 I'll be shooting Safari sharks this year, swamp Shark one doe last year. I can get them very sharp with file, rada wheel, and strop with leather.
Just got some Simmons interceptors in 190 grains. Seem to fly well and should get good penetration on white tails and even hogs. Using a hybrid longbow in 50lbs
I use a big diamond thing from work (middle school kitchen) high quality nearly new but one of the 2 we got identical had handle fall off, so I snagged the one without a handle and a rough small foldable head from Dimond Machining Technology that works really well I also go one step more when not in field and use a piece of cardboard for the last bit backwards to get rid of the parts on the blade that get too thin. I will keep the lesser one with me in the field for hunting. I go with long strokes becuse if I do not do that/in a hurry I get spots where I have not sharpened the blade at all and other spots the blade is overdone needs fixing.
Good stuff. I think the glue ons from Simmons are limited to 165 grains. I’m going to be close with 45/50 shafts on a 45# longbow. You and Chris kill a bunch of deer with these so I’ll get a set that works with them eventually. Great video, take care.
I can get Zwickeys scary hair popping sharp with a mill b**** file but the Simmons have always eluded me... until very recently. I tried the jewel stick, but like you said, it’s too fine. I’ve actually been able to get my Swamp Sharks stupid sharp (finally!) with that same 6” mill b**** file. Just have to get the right angle/stroke technique with practice. People recommend the Rada but I hate that tool. Can’t chuck that thing far enough away from me as far as I’m concerned lol.
Use the RADA all the time and my Treesharks will shave the hair off a gnat's butt. The angle of approach makes all the difference with a RADA.....and I do touch mine up with leather after the Rada.
@@robertcarte95 thanks brotherman, I’m 67 spent 3 years in a nursing home 2 in a wheelchair. Getting around is challenging at times . Hope I get a chance to hunt ground blinds . Jesus holds me . Thanks 🙏

Appreciate you and your channel.
Great tutorial. Thanks RC.
I did this with Zwickey Eskimos it worked perfectly. They are hair popping sharp. I used a course jewel stick. Thanks for the video sir.

You made that look so easy. I am the opposite, I make everything look hard

Sharper than a flint rock 🤔 it'll be fine. Thanks for the video.
The Zwickey Eskimo is a VP little tougher to sharpen right? I’ll try this method, I do have a butcher’s steel but probably need a better one . Thanks

Hey Robert, what all do you carry with you in the woods on a deer hunt? Thanks for sharing brother.
I did a video about what's in a pig hunters pack . It's about the same for deer.
@@robertcarte95 I'll look for it. Thank you
👍
wow, fastest to shaving I have seen! very nice. Is it that sharp all the way to the tips (front and back/sides)? That's where I can't get it shaving.
Yessir. All the way around the curve. Having a good steel makes a difference. There are a lot of them out there but buy one from a butcher!
@@robertcarte95 Thanks. I will try some more but if I don't get it, I've got others to load my quiver up with sharp from tip to tip
steel - get a burr, then light remove it from other side - Done!
thanks .what typ tree stand u use .thanks
Lone wolf loc on and 3 sticks. Tomcat climber.
Robert , what weight Simmons are you shooting ?
200 grain Safari. I also have a 100 grain insert. I have 175 tigersharks I'll use as well as 160 grain magnus 1 heads.
