I just lost the best friend of my life. We started playing guitar in the past 3 years together as he taught me. I started at 65 learning guitar. He was patient. We played Christian songs. Gospel songs. One week ago we played for my wife's birthday celebration. We both played so long and hard our fingers were sore for two days! He's been playing for 40+ years but because of many health issues he hadn't been playing except when we got together, which was about once a month. He had almost died twice already- on operating table, re-start his heart for instance-, but three weeks ago he told me he WANTED to go. He looked worn out. I told him I understood the feeling- this world is NOT our home, some of you know it for real- , "but I would like to ask you to stay around a little longer so we can play a couple times more"... he told me he wanted to go. There was nothing left here to bind him. He was in constant pain, yet didn't complain. He actually went to the gym and "worked out" with the equipment and walking the track. He could not feel either foot. He had the big toe and part of his foot removed due to the diabetes, yet he walked! He did fall too many times, but he was amazing. He was my younger brothers best friend, and was 6 years younger but was wiser than his age. I'll see him again, but the chair he played in is empty. It's facing me as it did while we played and my wife would sing. It's empty. He's never sitting there again. I have a guitar he suggested to me three years ago sitting in his chair. The chair is empty, but I'll see him again. The Tomb was empty, and I'll see Jesus soon. I don't care if some people don't like me saying that. I don't care. I will see the Lord, not them when I'm transformed. This song is one of mine and his favorites and Alabama nails it! Singing with conviction, nobody trying to out-do the others for attention ( tell the truth. There's a lot of groups who are talented PERFORMERS and have routines of comedy mixed in with their "worship" concerts. They seem to compete for the audience's attention. It's incredibly disrespectful, imo. ), and the music was perfect as it could have been. Thanks to all involved. Thank God, and may He bless all who have suffered loss of loved ones and who have the certainty of seeing them again in glory with the Lord.
@@lanadellhatestheclock3325 Thanks for your book suggestion. I'm at peace. So is he. I'll miss him a lot, but we'll both be okay. Gordon Mote is one of the most brilliant piano players in existence. He has such a good ear that he can hear the sustain difference each finger gives. Blows my mind.
I dedicate this to one of my best friends that died from Covid. He played guitar with some friends of mine. They called themselves Crown, and they sang this song for praise and worship at church.

Wat een heerlijk lied! Het geeft je weer power om de dag te beginnen en dicht bij God te wandelen! Ik bid dit voor alle mensen die verdrietig en bang zijn voor de toekomst. Learned this old hymn as a toddler in church---it was one of my mom's friend's favorite songs----sung often --so I remember it so well!!! So precious to my heart---yes, let it be!!!
As a child of the 60's I heard groups sing this right after it came out on modern gospel records. Heard it on recorded New Orleans funeral marches too. Has had deep meaning for years. As old man now "daily walking close to thee" means so much more. A walk outside, the trees, the birds, and God's blue sky on a clear day are unexplainable.
