Freedom sounds Betram Brown productions were some of the Heaviest tunes made. Jah Shaka would often play these on Dubplate and they were killer!

Been thinking off and on about looking at Freedom Sounds...nuff killers from that label!

@@FatCityVinyl the new release from Archive on white label has some tuff dubplate mixes from freedom sounds. Came out 3 weeks and is already hard to get. Definitely do a video on Freedom Sounds & Jack Ruby productions. Amazing work you are doing!

@@rickysingh8124 Yeah Jack Ruby is one I would like to do at some point as well...saw that white label dub LP come out but haven't bought it yet, wondering if there will be a proper release with cover art to follow...

A reggae Byrds cover, I guess I should expect this but it just seems so different to put to a reggae beat. I always enjoy the research you do and how much stuff you got stores in that brain of your Doug, always impressive

There are thousands of reggae cover versions, you never know what song might turn up, even For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield got adapted and repurposed into a reggae format. Yami Bolo - otherwise a deeply Rastafarian singer - even did a cover of Madonna's La Isla Bonita in the early 90's and it sounds interesting. This can be jarring at first but you learn to roll with it Steve

Interesting mix of artists...as usual a few familiar names jumping out here and there (Slim Smith, Johnny Osborne) though also a lot I don't know. Sounds like The Dub Chronicles had a pretty major impact on you. Strangely enough I don't have any particular memories of music I listened to during lockdown, and now I think of it I also have no memory of making any videos during that time though I'm sure I must have done! We were lucky enough to have good weather for a lot of that first lockdown so I spent most of my time in the garden reading books. Beautiful bass sound on the Dub Chronicles drop, and dig the Caribbean drums. Cheers!

The band had mentioned a vinyl edition of the album was coming, but I had given up on it ever appearing when they suddenly announced it had arrived earlier this year. I debated whether or not I really needed the LP, but then it came back to me how crummy and burned out I had been feeling and how the album had suddenly turned my mood around, like the sun coming out after a rain. To this day I can still recall driving into the city on a glorious summer day in 2021 with the album playing in the car, and feeling all was right with the world if just for that moment. If it weren't for having the videos up on my channel, plus posts on Facebook and Instagram to look over, I doubt I would have much memory of what I was doing or listening to during lockdown either. It's become rather a blank space otherwise. Cheers!

I guess there was some confusion over who the singer actually was for some years...not sure what the first commercial release might have been, maybe even that Trojan 12" from the early 00's...cheers 🙏❤✌

I have some Francoise Hardy on compilations but would like to get some of her albums, but it seems that many are quite pricey. Most of the artists in this Spinout are totally new to me. I have heard of Scientist, quite possibly because of your channel. I liked your story on the connection with The Dub Chronicles members and how music can often lift your spirits. I like that Simba album cover and it reminds me of my trip to Africa. While I don't have any music by the artists you highlighted, I do have Johnny & Jenny doing a song Jennifer Lara had a hand in writing. Have a great weekend.

I have never seen much Francoise Hardy around, I think I found that one quite cheap at a record fair. Scientist has been based in the U.S. for some years and is still very active musically. He was involved in a high profile court case a few years ago involving the rights to a series of popular dub albums conceived and marketed using his name and image, which ultimately did not rule in his favour. I wasn't sure I was going to buy the Simba album on vinyl but then I remembered that it did have that effect on me, and was important at that moment in my life. So I thought that should justify having a physical copy of it. Check out Dub Street by Johnny, Earl & Johnny, an infectious song I first heard on some old Cd-r compilations back in the day. Cheers and thanks for watching!

A friend of mine who came up in the same Blood & Fire message board circles as me has transitioned into a producer, using musicians like BDF...don't think I have any ideas to do anything similar though, I'll stick to representing the music of others for now...
