- Kim Kardashian can add yet another line to her already stacked resume: ambassador. While the reality star and entrepreneur isn’t dipping her toes into foreign diplomacy - yet - she is taking her partnership with Balenciaga to the next level as the house’s new brand ambassador.
The Skims founder is a noted fan of Demna’s work at Balenciaga. She attended the 2021 Met Gala as his guest, walked the couture show in 2022, and has starred in countless house campaigns. (She’s also arguably the world’s foremost pantaboot enthusiast.) Kardashian’s fondness for the brand predates Demna’s 2015 arrival, though. She too was influenced by the much-hyped City bag, carried by the likes of Noughties It-girls Sienna Miller and the Olsen sisters. “Every cool girl had one and I wanted one so badly,” she tells Vogue. “And I finally got a black one.”
Kardashian has since added many more designer bags to her collection, which she fills with a range of essentials. “I never leave the house without lip liner, lip balm, cream blush and a credit card,” she says. “I also carry a pack of Orbit gum because I’m obsessed, and a [resistance] band since I’m still rehabbing my shoulder and I try to sneak in some exercises.”
Kim has marked her new role with a campaign shot by documentary photographer Platon. For a woman who has spent the last decade in front of the camera, it may come as a surprise that Kardashian holds photoshoots in a different regard. “Campaign and editorial shoots are very different than having our show cameras around,” she says. “I’ve definitely become so much more comfortable and confident at shoots. I really enjoy that creative process and working with the photographer on concepts to bring the idea to life.”

I think that it makes sense in that they both represent how our culture seems to be attracted to hollow vanity over craftsmanship or depth. It seems rather fitting that they would both be linked together in an almost post ironic way. Both Kim and Demna should be self aware enough that what they create / perpetuate is not a good thing for most people, however they are just at the whims of the free market so instead of trying to change the world, (potentially losings millions doing so) they cynically go along with it. Kim calling the press on herself, and Demna designing trashy clothes with logos all over them and using shock value empty marketing. Basically they're both highly valued trash that we love to gawk at while simultaneously giving them attention which is their currency.

The transactional nature of the LA/Celebrity culture is so real. Whenever I go to LA I avoid that side of the city. People practically directly ask, “Can you do anything for me” and if you can’t it’s a blank stare and the conversation is over.
I almost thought you were going to say she was Balenciagas creative director I was going to so wow they really want celebrities to be creative directors at fashion houses.
frankly, I'm only vaguely interested in fashion, but the love and care you have for the art and craftsmanship of fashion is so genuine, it's infectious! you'd be a great uni professor or sumn one day
You want to hear about child abuse? How about how Kris used to call paparazzi and send them to photograph " her daughters who were at the beach in their bikinis" only for the photographers to show up and realize it was Kendall and Kylie at 11 and 8 ish years old.
I avoided fashion for the same reason you mentioned and pursued art instead. However, I've come to realize that it's still driven by the same kind of greed for money and attention🤷♀️

I love your videos and find your content educational and informative. My interest in Balenciaga really is centered around their shoes because no other brand makes shoes like theirs. I genuinely enjoy their unique designs and appreciate the aesthetic of giant sneakers or rubber klompen. I agree with everyone about how utterly appalling Balenciaga's ad campaigns have been, but I unashamedly enjoy the shoes because no other brand makes such shoes.

Kim very likely did not sell any bags because of the scandal, they sell off their stuff periodically on their Kardashian shop. Her statement about the scandal wasnt final in anyway to draw up such precise conclusions. I think quite clearly this was always going to happen, the aim was to let the drama settle. I'm unsure why these news are a contradiction to anything about this relationship. It was always going to happen, the scandal just created an unfortunate detour. In fact, you shouldve seen this coming.

what is the issue with her saying she’s taking time to re evaluate their relationship while keeping her distance? she literally said she believed they would make it right and now she believes they have…? I’m confused. she never actually stopped wearing the brand and she has always had the online shop selling discounted designer items. there’s no fact that she singled out balenciaga bc of the scandal. she remained very close to the brand. I don’t see the contradiction.
Balenciaga has not at all gone back to Nicolas Ghesquiere design wtf lol I dont think anyone is surprised byt Kim K not doing the right thing here. Balenciaga essentially has done nothing to make right after their scandal.

I think the Balenciaga train has past once Kanye isn’t involved 2024 we’ll see less people wearing it maybe that would make it more exclusive again but idk Kim k for balenciaga 💤 I do like demna though let’s see what he has next for us
